We should have unlimited negs for comments by jv…why capped at 5 :(

      • +1

it was at -49 just now, I'm contributing for -50 :)

        • +4

contribute to his posts further down, people are running out of negs by then

        • why are we all negging jv?

    • "Daily limit for voting negative on comments is currently capped at 5"
      (ಠ_ಠ)

    • lol is this the most -ves?

  • +14

Hmmm, I find their postage absolutely insane. I wanted to buy a few small things last year and it was >$50 for a package that would have been under 300gram and less that 20 square centimetres.

    • +6

This. Postage is always unreasonable from Thinkgeek.

    • +10

They changed the shipping options for Australia..
Economy shipping is only available on small orders under $100 for light things 4lbs (1.8 kilograms) or less
The iCade on its own is only $9 shipping.

      • Also if I order from them I use a reshipper which can save you money too.

    • +2

      $9 shipping for the icade

      • +5

2x camera lens coffee cups and a TMNT backpack for friends and standard shipping was only $12. Express shipping is where the killer is, from about $42-52.

    • isn't shipping free for orders over $75 too?

      • Only in the US.

    • I am still awaiting my purchase from 25 October (the last time they had a deal listed on OzBargain)

    • +13

It's not a discount gadget place, it's a specialty gadget place for novelty items you can't find elsewhere.

Nobody would expect ThinkGeek to have a cheap USB hub, but they do sell the only Blue Canary On The Outlet By the Light Switch (That watches over youuuuu).

      • +6

They Might Be the Giants of novelty items.

    • +13

The reason you're getting the negs is that you're deliberately misrepresenting the items.

        • +17

Exactly. You're ignoring the actual names of the items that describe what they are accurately and why people would buy them and only mentioning one aspect of them to make it seem like they're the equivalent of a generic product.

        • +3

What is the point of having things without a little fun? Sometimes, those little toy things are fun.

        • +12

deliberately quoting out of context is just as bad as lying in my books.

        • +15

          this is bang on correct

JV is being hypercritical of the prices because he doesnt seem to understand that people like buying this sort of fun. The world according to JV has everyone driving around in Hyundai Cars because all "4 cylinder" cars should cost $13990 drive away.

        • Hypocritical?

        • +3

I think he just missed the space. Hyper critical.

        • +1

          Imissedthespace

        • +2

Pretty sure he meant what he wrote actually - Hypocritical wouldn't make sense. Hypercritical does.

It's nice to see people not put up with JV's bullshit everywhere.

  • +40

Some awesome stuff there - did not know this sale was on. Thanks dre10g.

Also, used up my daily quota of comment negs on jv. Totally worth it.

    • no worries.. glad you like it. I've bought plenty of stuff from them before.

    • +3

Link it properly and maybe you'd have a point.

        • +3

The $2 shop has Battlestar Galactica coasters? Awesome!

        • You got me excited for a second there

    • +9

No a set of four coasters for $24.99 isn't a bargain.

A set of four Battlestar Galactica coasters for $24.99 is.

      https://www.google.com.au/#q=battlestar+galactica+coasters&h…

  • +3

ebates.com gives you 3.5% cashback from think geek. Better than nothing i suppose.

  • +4

Airzooka Air Gun, this is mighty awesome

    • +31

No, no, no. As jv would say: "Mess up hair for $7.99? How is that a bargain?!?"

      • +9

More like "Blowing air for $7.99? I can do that for free."

        • +2

A whole lot of hot air :P

    • I already own one and it is awesome.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH3lqTNHtZM

  • well I am not sure how the store can give 75% discount, what is their profit margin on every items?

    • Clearly, very ridiculously high.

I mean think of something like a typical external Hard Drive at the higher end of the market, you could be spending around $200, right?

Think about how much they have changed in the last 10-20 years…they haven't. The design is exactly the same as it ever has been; the memory is the only thing which improves. Yet they still try to justify selling at hundreds of times more than their cost of a couple of dollars (if that). Add onto that import taxes and cost of transport and such, of course, and you're talking what? Maybe $10 per unit on a bad day for the exchange rate?

  • +30

imagine JV going shopping with the kids… hahahaha

    • +34

It will be a long while till he decides if it's good value for money to make kids

    • hahahahahaha

      Ahh, you legend.

  • +3

We need some lego stuff on sale, then christmas would be set.

  • +28

I think JV's house must be filled with the cheapest, most sterile gear ever made

    • +33

      It's not a house, it's a shipping container.
Long as it's got 4 walls and a roof, it's all the home you need!

      • +4

With a long drop outside the front door

      • +2

        Game-Set-Match

    • +3

Totally thinking about buy this … then is said "cannot ship outside of US."
      Shucks.

      • -8

Totally thinking about buy this …

        It's not on sale…

        • +3

          But it's so cheap!

        • +1

          The iron price: $30k.

      • shipto

    • Was going to buy it, then I noticed it "doesn't qualify for free shipping". Suppose I'll pass it up this time.

  • +20

I got a little over-excited when I saw the title. Perhaps it should say up to 75% off.

  • +8

Seems like no one here likes jv aye?

      • +5

Damn ran out of neg votes for today.

        • +6

I'll do one for you. :)

        • -2

Damn ran out of neg votes

          That's a shame…

          http://tinyurl.com/958hrsn

        • +11

Whereas I find jv hilarious and have been positive voting all his comments

        • +6

          thanks dad…

        • +4

We should see if we can get a new site feature enabled. Keep the neg votes daily cap at 5, but have unlimited neg votes for jv :)

        • +7

but have unlimited neg votes for jv :)

          I don't hate neggers…

  • +1

    Thanks op. Awesome :)

    • Out of interest, what did you buy?

  • +11

JV's correct. None of this stuff is actually a bargain. It's all cheap crap with a 'geek'/nerd-bait theme slapped onto it and a massive markup. It's all about the fetishistic surface veneer of 'science'.

This site is turning more and more into ozAdvertisement, not ozBargain.

    • -5

None of this stuff is actually a bargain

Don't worry, most of the negs have been used up… :P

      • +1

6+ and 6-. I guess there is always tomorrow. :D

    • +2

well jv doesn't need to express every of his dam opinion/thoughts on this site.

      • +1

So you're saying unpopular opinions shouldn't be expressed?

    • +1

There is stuff there that's a bargain because people value geek/nerd-bait themed stuff. Especially when it's officially licensed stuff, not knock offs.

The same applies to things like sports jerseys. Are they made in a way superior to regular unbranded jerseys? Or knock off jerseys? No. The materials are the same, they're mass produced in the same manner. But people are willing to pay for the legit product and do by the stadium load. They do so knowing that they look slightly different/better to the knock offs at a massive mark up because they want the good looking, official version. That means if you can get the legit product for significantly less than normal, it's a bargain.

And as I said earlier, I'd wager jv is being downvoted for deliberately misrepresenting the items, and won't cop to it (and even did it again) after it was pointed out to him, not because he personally doesn't like the products/bargain.

      • +2

I just saw a lot of neg votes so I decided to join the party!!! What's a jv?

  • +1

    This is normally $40: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ef0e/

It's stupid but it's fun, and it's a pretty decent fm radio transmitter too.

    • -4

That's shouldn't be on ThinkGeek, it should be on ThinkPetrolHead

      • Geeks are more likely to have economy cars that don't sound like V8's.

I highly doubt that appeals to Petrol Heads. :P

  • can somebody recommend a freight forwarder? I wanna buy the lego torch thing, but the postage costs just as much as the item. :(

EDIt: nvm, cheaper on amazon by $1 (including delivery).

  • -6

This is the worst website. Where are the Henleys T-shirts? The Nike AirFits?

Who'd want to buy a Henry Potter Quiddich jersey? You got any Bulldogs jerseys?

  • +2

I just like how people keep negging jv.
I agree with jv on this deal though. (First time)

    • -5

I just like how people keep negging jv.

There's a lot of hate out there… either that, or a lot of sensitive geeks…

I agree with jv on this deal though.

I didn't neg the deal, because I couldn't find the items cheaper elsewhere, but they are still overpriced for what you get… they've obviously got some kind of monopoly licensing agreement so they can milk the geeks for as much as they can get…
