Damn.
Oh well, that's me out. I was going to fly it night time in the city just to enjoy the lights etc and along the river.
Edit: you can't fly at night either.
you cant use it as in it will not fly due to GPS location restrictions or you cant fly if five O is watching?
Have always look at pictures of night skyline and find them very peaceful.
Was going to just go to a high level carpark at night… goggled up with some Miyazaki music, fly it and just forget about the world.
There goes my plan..:(
i think if you take it out to the bush, forest, beach, mountain, why would we not be able to fly it there, and who can even know.
multi level carparks not a good idea. too much metal can effect transmission and control of the aircraft.
open areas without much infrastructure is best.
i bought this like half a year ago, still have not opened the box yet :D
Wanna pass along?
Aaaaaaaand 6 more months pass without you opening the box, wanna pass along?
Just do it anyway
Do what?
IT…
Anyone recommend a good DJI or equivalent model for photography hobby? price range 600 - 1000$?
DJI Mini 3 Pro, can get them with the RC screen controller for under $1000
Thanks for the reply, i had tried looking for a while and cant get one past 1.1k but old posts had them for 900
should look at classified heaps of them going for $700-900 brand new as unwanted gifts. Used goes down to like 550 at one point
@Buy2Much: Awesome, thanks for your help. I will add to wishlist, hopefully one becomes available
@Phage: Wow, OOS so fast. The standard RC-N1 one is $850 if you don't mind using your own smart phone https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/electronics/dr…
I respectfully disagree with this recommendation, see my comment here and google DJI Mini 3 Pro image problems/softness/focus/etc:
@caitsith01: @caitsith01Thats unfortunate, 4 drones later and same issue. What one did you settle for?
So… are these just for exploring?
You can pull off some amazing tricks you couldn't with the traditional drones. They're the action camera of the drone world, not the best quality but your other drones aren't going to thread the needle and give you footage going through tight rock formations.
Yup, like this! https://www.instagram.com/reel/Czp5doZuV1H/?igsh=em1jenEzdWF…
you need the FPV controller for most of those tricks like diving…
After flying a drone FPV, many people say they don't ever want to fly it normally again
Ukraine and Russia have other use-cases - https://old.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/. [potentially N S F W]
Avata’s still crushing it in FPV drone searches 🚀📈

Still waiting for a good deal of the RC REMOTE for my Air 2s…
Avatas are very noisy just be aware.
yeh I was going to buy one ages ago but decided to stick with my mavic 2 pro, a mate purchased the avata and I was quite surprised how loud and annoying it was. Glad I never got one, he has crashed his twice (replaced with new unit), and it also survived a dog attack haha.
So true, I only ever fly mine when there’s nobody around.
Has anyone been able to successfully apply and get approval to fly an FPV drone recreationally?
No but you are exempt if you join an MAAA approved club and flu on their fields. https://aufpv.org.au/clubs/
Damn that's cheap. Considering buying and selling the goggles just to have a spare drone.
Integral goggles has remote id built in fyi.
It’s cheaper to just get DJI Care Refresh, but maxes out at 2 years.
I have one of these and its a wonderful toy. I actually fly it on beaches, parks etc on my own (so, not legally) but fly very respectfully, usually very early in the morning and try to avoid people. When I apologise to anyone they seem more interested than annoyed. No-one has approached me or had any issues but as I said, i typically don't go near people. I picked up one of these and a DJI FPV (both used) and intend to take them both to the mountain ranges nearby soon - no people at ALL there to bother. But yes, it is noisy, hard to hide and people will notice it. At this price I would recommend it as a fun toy for a distraction even if you think you wont use it much - the video quality via the goggles and the camera are both excellent and the unit itself is partially crash proof and easy to transport. FYI mine uses the older style GogglesV2 and has not been 'grounded' via the app, it doesn't need to be connected to a phone at present. That may have changed, and its possible this could be bricked in AU without a digital permit - im definitely not updating mine anymore for this reason!
Are you using the motion controller or DJI’s FPV remote controller?
I actually bought the FPV 2 controller expecting it to be far superior to the motion controllers, but in practice the motion wands for both drones work surprisingly well and are really easy, stress free and smooth to use. I haven't even bothered to bind the big FPV controller as the motion wands work so well. I am tempted to try the FPV 2 controller just to get more speed out of the drones (FPV controller required for Acro mode and high speed) but the DJI FPV was hitting 100km/hr with the motion wand in Sport mode, so I'm sticking with the motion wands for now. I should add that I don't fly Acro and find the mode a bit unsafe when I tried it with my other FPV drones.
Note you can't use these without being indoors or having CASA approval
