    Not bad for a 24plus 256gb (upgraded to 512GB)

Basically free upfront and then pay $800 cancellation fee

And you get a $200 gift card

    • I kinda question the $800 cancellation. Too good? $800 for the vouchers.
Maybe they ask for other fee. I'm not too sure

      • +3

Nah , max cancellation fee is $800 (its in the critical info summary)

        • Sounds like someone cooked the T's & C's.

          $1600 towards a phone or $1100 voucher for $800 + $99 first month!?
          Sign me up.

          • @Drakesy: FYI i got a TV under a good guys promotion, and if i try to cancel on telstra app it says i have to pay back the voucher for the TV also. Got a good deal, so not complaining. But i would be careful assuming telstra will just give you that voucher for $800.

            • @dreamtime: Yeah it does seem too good to be true, a few other comments noted they may be able to claw back the $1600

          • @Drakesy: Get the phone. Dont open it. They will give you an invoice for the phone. Return phone to different store for voucher. Have done it in past

    • +1

      Basically $600 ??

      • Yep, if voucher is any use for you

      • Yeah, I don't see a price listed in the title or the description

    • And you get a $200 gift card

Yup, not StoreCash, as per the title. It's a gift card, with no expiry.

  • +1

What would be the effective total amount ?
    Steps ?

    • +10

Not bad for new release phone.

      • +9

The T&C talk about a voucher repayment fee and specifically talks about paying back the $1600 if you cancel early. I assume this on top of the $800 plan break cost?

        https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/help/critical-in…

        • Which line are you referring to? This?

You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee (if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

If so, the voucher they're referring to there is the $800 voucher

          • @quanticism: What about plan costs?

            • @noise36: Can i cancel my plan?
Yes, you can cancel your plan at any time by calling us on 13 50 88 or visiting a The Good Guys store. When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won’t refund any money you’ve already paid and you’ll need to pay out any remaining Voucher Repayment Fee.

        • yep, can't see 800 either, it says full amount basically:
"The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of
the base Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months)
          remaining in your Voucher Term."

          • @Den:

total amount of the base Voucher

This refers to the voucher row in the table which is $450 for the $69/month plan and $800 for the $99/month plan

      • I see this often on OzB regarding insta-plan cancel, some people saying it's bad for credit? I dunno? What's the deal? Do you get Telstra blacklisted or something?

Assuming you DON'T cancel, this is $2,376 you can't dodge in payback for mobile access.

        That is $1776 more than I spend every 2 years on a phone plan :{
Therefore I'd need the phone for free AND multiple gift cards.

        OR do the cancel trick

    • +9

      For the S24+

      $1649 (double storage) - $1600 + $800 + $99 (one month plan fee or $0 if you can get Telstra to waive it) - $150 e-gift card = $798

      For the S24 Ultra

      $2199 (double storage) - $1600 + $800 + $99 (one month plan fee or $0 if you can get Telstra to waive it) - $200 e-gift card = $1298

      • This is quite good deal if you don't have anything to trade in. Is there a better trade in deal ?

        • Yep what's a good deal if you wanna trade in!

      • +2

Gee whiz this just seems too good to be true for a new S24U 512GB. 10/10 if works

        • +9

The T&C talk about a voucher repayment fee and specifically talks about paying back the $1600 if you cancel early. I assume this on top of the $800 plan break cost? You would want to check before trying this. https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/help/critical-in…

          • @noise36: That’s if you were issued a $800 voucher

Since this is a $1600 there won’t be additional repayments apart from the $800 ETC

          • @noise36: Where does it specifically mention the $1600 pay back? All I can see is voucher value $800 and Max voucher repayment is $800?

            The $1600 isn't a voucher I believe, it's a discount.

            • @bloopzorm9: Great if correct!

            • -1

@bloopzorm9: Bro did you read the post? Whilst not in the critical information summary (basically the CIS is wrong), the $1600 is a voucher:

"The $1600 off the purchase price of any Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or S24+ Series phone (referred to as “The Good Guys Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the purchase price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or S24+ Series phone instore after connection after approval by Telstra."

              • @Increase1: Bro did you see that it was edited after I commented?

In any case, if the CIS says $800 and that's what you sign, then that's what you pay.

      • Isnt it $200 egift card for s24 and s24+ and $300 for s24 ultra. Where did $150 and $200 come from?

        • It was shown on the website earlier this morning but I guess they have corrected it

  • +1

What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee (if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

    • Meaning we have to pay up to $99×24 months

      • +6

Incorrect, maximum you have to pay is $800

I’ve done it before on the JB plans

        • When was the last time you’ve done it and didn’t get charged the voucher fee?

          • @TomGum: I hopped on the S23 Ultra deal with the bonus watch via redemption

          • @TomGum: That is the voucher fee. You're getting an $800 bonus exclusive to S24+ and S24 Ultra handsets.

      • That what I thought too.

      • Thats how i understand when i read it…. I know the old JB plans theres only $800 to pay to cancel contract

  • Is this instore only ?

  • +1

Wow this looks like the one to pull the trigger on for me

  • +1

    Wth is voucher repayment plan?

  • With the S24Ultra, some people were complaining it was too bulky, and that the super zoom did not work unless you used a gimble, stating the plus was much preferred. Any comments regarding this?

    • +4

Nah, S24 plus you get an exynos processor this time.

      • +1

This is not well advertised as well!! so much of the information leading up to it was saying SD8G3 for all countries. Australia is getting JIBBED! I only spotted it when I accidentally expanded the specs and noticed a frequency difference, followed by a core count difference. Crazy.

  • There are some people said cancellation fee is only $800 but I tried to cancel my $99 jbhifi I sign up last year, they ask for
    - Early termination fee ( which *the remaining month)
    - vourcher fee9

So Im not sure about this

    • +2

From memory, JB TC was updated once they found out people were cancelling when they didn’t have the voucher fee. Since then they have added the new clause. However whether it’s enforced or not that’s a separate question.

    • +1

      Voucher fee is $800

  • +1

so For S24 Ultra 256gb, you get the 512Gb model for $2197

    -1600
    =597

    Early Cancellation of the 24month $99 plan = 800

    Total = $1397

    Is this right ?

    • Yes, plus you keep the $200 gift card too.

    • Extra $200 for the 512 upgraded to 1TB is also tempting

    • Plus maybe $99 if Telstra charges you for one month

      • If they do, then they also discount the first month voucher fee, so it's either $867.67 on termination, or $800.

  • +2

There is extra $100 gift card for concierge members.

    • What's the cost to be concierge member?

    • Hei, where is this info?

  • Good deal but needs credit check right? How does this impact credit file and history?

    • It's a post-paid contract so yes

    • +5

I took the previous Optus/HN Deal on the Pixel 8 Pro and it made a $0 hard credit enquiry on my Equifax report. Since cancelling and paying out the plan, it now says the credit line has been closed (ironically 4 days after it was opened).

Now I'm going for a home loan and just got a conditional preapproval from a lender (3rd tier non bank lender) who has asked a bunch of questions about my credit file on previous credit enquiries and credit accounts, but no mention/queries about the Optus credit enquiry. It may have slightly reduced my credit score though as I made a few enquiries around that time and Optus added to the list of enquiries, but my credit score is high so it wasn't of any concern for me.

Hope that helps and YMMV - this is just my experience and it might be different with other financial products.

      • Thanks for the insight! Yeah wish there were no checks would make this deal even sweeter.

      • +2

IMO the credit enquiries for utilities and telco just prove the fact that you had electicity / gas or a phone before.

They don't move the needle in terms of credit score or serviceability as opposed to unsecure / secured debt.

They mostly look at mix of debt and serviceability.

  • Can you trade in your phone for further credit with this deal? I would want the Ultra here ideally so a trade in would go a long way!

Otherwise, any better deals using phone to trade in?

  • +4

I don't think it'll work. Unless this IS the early termination fee since according to the CIS maximum Voucher Repayment Fee is $800?

The $1600 off the purchase price of any Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or S24+ Series phone (referred to as “The Good Guys Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the purchase price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or S24+ Series phone instore after connection after approval by Telstra. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other The Good Guys mobile or broadband offer.

    • yeah, that "referred to as “The Good Guys Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions" clause closes the "$1600 off" vs "$1600 voucher" loophole

    • +1

Yeah, I think people have mentioned about the $800 repayment of the voucher in multiple posts above.

Early cancellation wasn't mentioned by the OP, just from those looking to avoid be contracted to Telstra for 24 x $99 for contract period.

  • +1

Does Good guys do price match? Might be worth waiting till the last date of the promo in case you find a better price/price match

  • Can trade in as well?

You going to be paying the $1600 back on early cancellation

    • -2

Nah. They say $1600 off, which means they are discounting the phone by $1600. No mention of voucher in fine print. TIO will side with you and likely ask for $800 to be waived for TGG misconduct. Just take screenshots and pics of everything

      • +1

They say $1600 off with a voucher, which is NOT a discount.

"The Good Guys Voucher" and "Voucher Repayment Fee" are two separate terms defined in the T&C's. Normally they are the same value (both $800). However in this instance, "The Good Guys Voucher" has increased to $1600, but the "Voucher Repayment Fee" still remains the same at $800 as specified in the T&C's.

      • Looks like they forgot to update the Voucher Repayment Fee to $1600.

      • +2

Not really. Check the Service Terms under "Voucher Repayment Fee".

These terms "Good Guys Voucher" and "Voucher Repayment Fee" are derived from each other - separate but the same.

If you received a The Good Guys Voucher when you purchased your Mobile
Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term,
you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the The Good Guys Voucher you
received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee).

So, by taking a contract where $1600 is the value of the voucher, you are accepting that the CIS is not for you in the first place. Your voucher doesn't align with it, and so you should refer to the Full T&C to derive the new "Voucher Repayment Fee", which is equal to the "Good Guys Voucher", which in the case of the offer is $1600. Finally, the CIS states in fine print "This summary may not reflect any discounts or promotions which may apply from time to time"

PS: I acknowledge that both sides are arguable regardless.

        • Looks like the T&C's for the Good Guys is worded differently to get T&C's for JB hifi deal.

JB hifi is much safer I reckon as it clearly spells out max voucher repayment of $800.

    • My reading of https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/help/critical-in… is that the voucher is $800, and that is the Max you can pay for early cancellation.

I can't see a way of getting out of the first months payment though based on https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…
      "Your first month's charges
When you start your plan, you will be charged for the first month when you place your order."

      • I got mine waived with jb hifi plan. Just said i signed up and realised i dont need it, so i want to cancel.

Also TIO code clealry states that a mobile provider cannot charge you for a service thats not used. So if they charge you $99 and you havent activated the sim, they are in breach.

    • 2.1 If you received a The Good Guys Voucher when you purchased a service on a The
Good Guys Mobile Upfront Plan, the Voucher may have a fixed term of 24 months
      (Voucher Term).

6.2 If you received a The Good Guys Voucher when you purchased your Mobile
Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term,
you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the The Good Guys Voucher you
received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee).

6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of
the base Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months)
remaining in your Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-
      month Voucher Term, then in:
      (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
      (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
      (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.

Just beware of the terms above

      • It says the "Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee" is $800, I take that would apply if you cancelled before 12 months?

      • (X) Available to port-in and new customers only (excluding JB Hi-Fi Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra and Boost).

I think $1600 it is The Good Guys Voucher Repayment Fee. so touch
        So break out the plan The good guy we pay $99 x24month = $2376 -$1600 discount= $776 /24month Plan = $33 monthly plan sim for 300 gb
        * $1600 discount /24months =$66$ monthly pay for phone
        * if we get ultra we pay more 2399 - 1600 = $799 /66 =12 months

        • if normal pay for phone S24 ultra 2399/36months = $66months

There is no diferrent to buy phone from samsung and good guy even teltra i think

  • -3

Sounds like a good deal of its $800

My Pixel 7 Pro is okay, I'm not sure I need an upgrade? I paid $600ish. I think the resale value is so bad on these, maybe I get $500.

I haven't ever owned a Samsung, I guess most people are going to wait for others to be guinea pigs lol

  • Shame the S24+ is using Exynos and the gift card can't be used in the same transaction. Probably going to get an S24Ultra from this. Just going to wait a few days for battery life reviews and the like.

    • +2

If it’s like the last pixel deal, they’ll end it early once they see how many cancellations there are. So I wouldn’t wait too long.

    • What can you use the voucher on?

    • S24U is not using Exynos? Can anyone confirm who owns the phone?

      • S24U is using Snapdragon Gen 3 globally. S24+ is using Exynos but apparently it's a decent chip this time round.

  • Just reading through and I assume like JB you can't take advantage 9f this if already on Telstra

    • +2

Same thing happens every year and people posting "you can't", it's hilarious. Yes, you can. Same with the last 10 years. Just register a new number. Then cancel your current contract free plan and request FNN change into the "new" plan. Easy as pie. Check my post history. Done so many times.

      • Mind me asking what FNN is?

        • Posted guides on how to do this over and over again over the years. Feel free to find it in my post history.

        • +1

FNN – Full National Number, a unique number
Telstra assigns to each service and network.
          E.g. 0418 123 456 or N0122334R.

        • +2

Go into any T-Shop and ask for a "Change FNN" they'll know what you're talking about. You can also try online chat but YMMV as most of those folks have never been shown how to do it.

  • +1

Were getting Exynos for the 24? Nah it's rather keep the 23

    • -1

Not point upgrading from s23U to S24.

      Very minor improvments

      • No point upgrading if it's actually a downgrade

        • Would only upgrade to S24U if it cost me $0 with trade in + bonus only due to depreciation of old device
