          • @easternculture: If you know someone in Telstra.. usually U can get it for half price

          • @easternculture: Nah its minor upgrade but no worth it IMO.

            • @Spendmore: All you getting is "Samsung AI (software gimmicks), titanium body and flat screen this time (can get cheaper screen protector - good bye $80 Whitestone Dome Glass). Only thing you gain is just the 7 years updates and newer processor? Although S23's SD Gen 2 is good enough for daily driver.

          • @easternculture: If considering a Samsung care swap request ($199) on S23U, it would be worth upgrading to S24U if total pay in is not much more.

    • There are some reports the Exy 2400 was much closer to Snapdragon than Exy's in the past!

      • I just checked the s24 page on Optus and it says it's a Snapdragon….. ?

  • +3

I thought I would clarify some things. This will be based on the $99/month plan

As stated by the Good Guys, the $1600 discount is referred to as the Good Guys Voucher so from the Telstra Terms & Conditions

"If you received a The Good Guys Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the The Good Guys Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee).

The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of
the base Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months)
remaining in your Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-
    month Voucher Term, then in:

    (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
    (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
    (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received. "

Although the discount you get for the phone is $1600 the voucher amount received from Telstra is only $800 meaning, you will only have to pay a maximum of $800.

    Hope this helps

    • So I need to pay $800 + remaining month of the contract?

      • This is exactly my query as well .. what about the remaining months on 24 months contract?

    • Sorry am I missing something… Do you work for The Good Guys or Telstra? You're saying the same info as others so not really clarifying anything.

  • Is it worth going through this deal, getting the phone for the discounted price (assuming you only pay $800 for canceling the play) then selling this phone for a profit?

I’ve noticed the S23 Plus has been selling for $1300-$1500 on ebay.

So I would also assume you could sell the S24 Plus for the same or more

  • Was going to do this but other than a bump in battery life there is literally no improvements over the S23+ let alone the S22+.

Looks like Samsung's finally settled on a design that's iterative like Apple rather than drastically changing it every year, seems to work though with minimal bezels and no notch.

    • Isn't this basically like every phone??

My pixel 2 XL lasted me 5 years, personally I can't notice the upgrade in photo quality even though my friends can.

Obviously it's faster, I don't think it's worth upgrading every year or even every second year these days.

      • Totally, very few points of differences in flagship phones now days, unless all this AI stuff does something for you.

        • Thats the big upgrade (AI) for S24 but it seems it will eventually be available on earlier models and is only free on S24 for 12 months.

    • I am sort of in the same boat. I have an Oppo Find X5 Pro, so still a very capable device, but I was a little disappointed with a couple things and wanted to upgrade. Samsung AI, despite what reviews would tell you seems like it's still in beta. Some of the cool features are too buggy or inefficient.

I was expecting to be impressed with this phone but I wasn't tbh.

Also what happened to when phones were $1000-1200. Now they are $2200 for a flagship. Give them a device and get a bunch of 'bonuses'. We're being taken for fools.

TLDR, ranting, but probs will buy a new phone soon rofl

  • What if you already have Telstra connection through JB-HiFi but you are not in a contract? How can I avail this offer?

  • Is there any value for this deal in getting a S24 (not plus)?

I have an S21 and wondering if it's worth upgrading for.

The Ultra and S24+ are too big for me.

  • +4

I think harvey norman will run a similar deal, on the $69 deal

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/optus-byo

Customers who sign up to a new Optus $69 SIM only plan in store at Harvey Norman, Domayne or Joyce Mayne during the offer period will also be eligible to purchase a Samsung Galaxy S24 256GB device with an $1399 discount applied upfront to the cost of the device at point-of-sale.

    • The most HN will do would be similar to the Pixel 8 Pro 128gb deal. $1699 phone value for $0 upfront on $69/24m plan (so $828 cancellation fee).
This would equate to the S24+ 256gb or any S24.

Edit: HN link states $1400 phone discount on $69/24m plan for the whole S24 range.

    • Not a bad deal, but optus…

  • I just got my kid a plan with optus for a sht samsung phone for $65pm :(

    • Don't worry the screen will be broken next week and you can get another one :)

    • +1

You got your kid a $65pm plan. Lol

      • Not everyone are broke

        • +3

Its not about being broke. A $200 phone with a boost or amaysim yearly plan is more than enough for a kid

          • @easternculture: I agree…. my son is currently on 120GB 365 day Coles Mobile and we'll move to 140GB 365 day Amaysim. For $125 that is over 10GB/mth for a bit over $10/mth.

Show me better value on month to month for that volume of data at that cost. There are possibly better 365 day plans on Optus, but I'm not touching Vodafail with a barge pole.

      • +1

I got my kid 240Gb 365 day expiry plan for $120 from Costco. Well vodafone is not my preference but 20Gb data for $10 per month plus bonus 5G cellualar voice calls is a no brainer.
Infact i felt bad for missing the same but for $100.

  • Ordered something from the good guys on 12th Dec last year, one month past still haven't got it after 4 phone calls, what a store

  • +3

I think everyone is getting a little excited at the possibility of getting this phone for the price they think.

You need to read it properly the website section - X
    It states
The $1600 OFF the purchase price of any Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or S24+ Series phone (referred to as “The Good Guys Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the purchase price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or S24+ Series phone

    Purchase price is $2,197 - $1,600 = $597 remaining

The Good Guys Voucher = $1,600

    The T&C's clearly state
If you received a "The Good Guys Voucher" - (The Good Guys Voucher = $1600 as mentioned above)… you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the The Good Guys Voucher

    So therefore cancellation is
$596 + Pro Rata amount of The Good Guys Voucher ($1,600)

    • +1

All true but, it states in the critical information summary that the "Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee" is $800. I assume this is instead of the full $1600 though would love to hear if anyone's tried it yet.

    • +1

Yeah exactly, and the CIS is literally incompatible with the offer. It states that for a voucher of $800, the maximum payment is $800.

For this offer, where a voucher of $1600 is provided, obviously this means the maximum payment is $1600. Yes, it's unclear and requires extrapolation from the customer - for that reason you could argue it's their fault somewhat, but that will take some effort.

EDIT: My second point is backed by their Service Terms which state:

If you received a The Good Guys Voucher when you purchased your Mobile
Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term,
you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the The Good Guys Voucher you
received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee).

EDIT 2: The CIS also states in fine print "This summary may not reflect any discounts or promotions which may apply from time to time". This won't help the case of trying to dodge paying the $1600.

      • +1

I don't know why you are being downvoted - it's definitely a point of contention and not something I'd be taking an $800 gamble on.

In addition to the bit you highlighted…

This summary may not reflect any discounts or promotions which may apply from time to time

        …the CIS also states:

You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan.

So, I wouldn't be too confident that you'd be able to get away with picking up a brand new S24+/Ultra for almost half price on release. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

The only way it would make sense is if the other $800 of the discount was coming from Samsung and they were just eating into their margins to move stock. No way to know until someone purchases and reports back on how the vouchers are applied.

        • Ive been watching over the past month, well since December a whole bunch of China made SD8Gen3 mobiles and they cost USA$600-900 which shows how much more Samsung are squeezing out of buyers. Better yet, off the assembly line the cost to the company will quickly drop to <$200 so a LOT of gravy to be shared around. Remember, the price they put on parts they make themselves is a fraction of the paper, accounting costs. Makes for looses to avoid company taxes on if your in the know of all the tips and tricks, like the dutch/Iraland tax sandwidge for tax reductions on your own IP you bill youself

    • +1

If they don't change the terms, I just got a similar deal with JB last year black friday. The maximum repayment fee is indeed $800 not $1600. In reality what you'll need to pay is $99 which will be charged the day you signed up (non refundable) + $767 for voucher repayment fee.

      • What about the remaining monthly plan cost? Dont they charge 50% of the remaining months? Something like 24* $49.5 =$1188

        • Nope, no more ETC(early termination contract), you just need to payback the $800 voucher

  • Seems like buy an expensive phone plan that cost $2400 over 24 months if you don't get to cancel for $800.

Better off waiting for it to fall in price at least that is a sure thing.

  • Did anyone actually got this deal and cancelled the plan? I am keen to see if the cancellation fee it's $800 or $1600.
If anyone did it, please let us know.

    • This is a pre-order. The phone arrives in Feb. I assume you'd cancel when you get the phone and Sim in Feb but maybe I'm wrong.

  • Read the fine prints peeps
"Galaxy AI features will be provided free of charge until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices" the notation reads. While this does not guarantee you'll have to pay for Galaxy AI features after two years, the possibility remains open. When buying a Galaxy S24 smartphone, you aren't necessarily purchasing lifetime access to Samsung's AI tools.

  • harvey norman is doing same deal as last year with a $200 price increase $828 + $800 up front. if early cancellation paying out half the contract on $69 a month optus

    • Is this deal the $1400 towards S24 series in $69 plan? Or something different?

      • Not sure harvey rep just said its same deal as last year just $200 more

  • Does anyone know if unused data is rolled over to the following month?

    • +1

      No they do not.

  • +1

Can confirm the cancellation fee is $800. When I signed up, you have to go through the t & cs of the plan on the sign up page and it states cancellation fee of $800 and you have to click accept to continue to the next step.

    • Did u confirm with the good guy reply there?
I'm just afraid teltra think differently

    • I thought in-store only? did you order online?

  • for this plan, am i able to trade in my S23U for $950 to use as payment for the balance of S24U 1TB @$2397 - $1600? Same time i can claim $300 eGift card.

  • can anyone confirm the gift card from TGG is redeemed as store cash? I'm a bit lost in the process of redeeming this

    • +3

Apparently was told in another thread that with $1600 disc - the eGift card is not eligible.

      Will go ask on Sun.

  • got my s24 ultra today from TGG and also received $300 e-gift card by email after redemption.

  • Is this deal still ongoing?
Has anyone cancelled and can confirm that the only charge was 828$ for cancellation?

    • I would like to know this too. Also, what's the process for cancellation? Do you cancel with Telstra or The Good Guys? And when is the best time to cancel? Immediately after the transaction or just before the end of the first month?

      • +9

Hi @DevonBlaze and @fring, I just signed up to the $99 plan and bought an S24+ for $97 at TGG this morning. Paid $99 and $97 upfront at the store. I then cancelled via Telstra Chat a few hours later. Here are parts of the conversation:

"There will be an early termination fee of $766.59. Also, once this plan has been cancelled, you may no longer retrieve the number. Do you wish to proceed?

Thanks for confirming. I have successfully disconnected the plan with case reference number xxxxx.
We'll send an invoice to your registered email address. We'll debit the amount from your default payment method if you haven't paid within 10 days."

I can confirm that the maximum cancellation cost is $800!
In summary, total cost of the S24+ 512GB comes down to $762.59, according to the following calculation:
        $99 + $97 + $766.59 - $200 (I'll claim the $200 egiftcard after I receive the phone, also confirmed by TGG staff) = $762.59

Was told the phone should be ready for pickup next week.

        • You're a legend mate. Thanks

        • Just a question, did you book on website and pay at store or did you just walk in into the store and book it there itself?

          • +2

@DevonBlaze: I walked into the store to order and pay for it. The rep helps you sign up to the Telstra plan on the spot.

            • @trueamity: If you went to the store to collect your phone would the store ask you to repay the voucher of $1600? As the guy I spoke too said the voucher fee..
It's so damn confusing because their terms and conditions conflict what they are saying..

I'm so keen to buy it but the risk of being burnt haunts me lol

              • +1

@jt0505t: I did ask the TGG rep about the Telstra plan cancellation fee and he told me it's a "grey area". Sounded like he knew people were doing this but it's not against the terms and conditions of the offer. I don't think there will be an issue when I go to the store to collect the phone as a number of Ozbargainers on here already said that from their experience TGG and Telstra don't talk to each other.

                • @trueamity: Thanks for the info. I suppose I could sign up… Wait til I get the phone then cancel on the day via Telstra chat .. then reduces the awkward issue of collecting it from the store if they question i

        • Thanks for the detailed response @trueamity.

          • @fring: @trueamity , or any other people. may I please know what the Docket/Invoice looks like, as I want to know the amount they put there (reason : for TRS refund.)

            • @alakar: I haven't received an invoice yet as the phone has not arrived. I was given a sales order payment summary which shows $0 for GST when I made the order. I'm sure they will issue the invoice on pickup, but not sure whether it will show the full amount or just the $97.

  • +2

I did this last with S23 Ultra but with 69 plan, free watch. Feel free to check my chat history. 1699 - 1100 voucher + 432 - marketplaced watch 300 + 69 plan = approx ~800. No issues.

Good guys and Telstra systems don't talk to each other. The max voucher fee termination fee will be $800 as per CIS.

    • Thanks @Kuro ..what is $432 above?

      • +1

It was the maximum voucher termination fee for the $69 plan

    • Thanks for the confirmation @Kuro! Going to TGG to get an S24+ tomorrow :D

    • +1

Did u cancel right away with tgg rep?

      • Yeh I cancelled via Telstra chat, make sure to go for a new number - less hassle.

  • Does anyone know if i can pool JB hifi data and TGG data?

    • +1

about the data sharing - how does that work? Missus' 365 days plan is expiring soon and I have signed up to TGG with 300gb ….

      • the othe plan(s) have to be on telstra TGG too, so data SIM for say a tablet, a plan for the wife; as long as they are all on the one bill together (same thing for jobhifi or even telstra, it all has to be on the ONE bill to share data, then whatever the slowed data speed is, 2mbs)

So all in one is the way to go! so in answer to the question, can I share accross t$/TGG/JBHIFI, well NO as its not all on the one bill, so cant be shared Im told. Its the same on Optus and Vodafone, it all has to be on the 1 bill to share!

        • Although all billing is done by TELSTRA, the POOLING is TELSTA plans, TGGS plans and JBHIFI PLANS ~ to POOL data it must all be on the same PLAN, so 1/2/3… plans pooled on T$/TGGS/JBIFI

However, the back end system @T$ if you get the 'right' person, might convert a plan across to Telstra's own to POOL but make sure they are not going to hit you with termination charges for the old plan! Its up to you to confirm this, the 'wrong' people @T$ can also try to bring more biz in for the bonus and although obliged to tell you, unless you ask and confirm might 'neglect' this important detail… ozb-beware!

          • @srhardy: Telstra are more likely to let you re-contract to pool an account if your upgrading from $55/$69 plans to the $99 level without a penalty but its all depends on the person who's helping, their competence and if your on contract with JB/TGG that Telstra isnt going to tick them off… Its doable, Ive seen, heard and watched it done, so its worth an online query at least

  • Did anyone have received their s24 plus?

  • I went to store today and was told S24 series were not available.

  • im looking at the $69 plan for the regular s24. any better options on a plan?

    thanks

    • +1

taking a gandar here my thoughts, TGG offer a $900 CR directly on a $69 24m contract with 120gb, then 2mbs unlimited (no international calls or sms) and if you cancel, a $800 (pro rata fee/24m) so $100 ahead if you cancel the same day or the next which is eaten up in the first month upfront more or less, of $69

But assuming your happy with 24months and no SG25x next year… and $69 120gb is enough, then proceed!
$1397-900=$497 with a free UG from the 256 to the 512 version of the SG24 and $69x24=$1656 +497=$2153/24=$90x24 $200 gift card
IMO the S24+ is a better deal @$99
$1697-1600=$97 upfront, $99/300gbx24months =$2376+97=$2473/24=$103 equilivent… and best, if you sucumb to SG25 fever, the cancelation is 800/months remaining and not the $1600! $300 giftcard

  • For people who bought the device, on the bill, what storage is written? For me, I bought a 256gb model so as per the preorder offer, I should get a 512gb model. But on the bill it shows 256gb model

    • +1

I was told to receive 512gb automatically. My sales order payments also shows 256gb, but I saw the sales guy put buy 256gb receive 512Gb in the system as a note.

    • +1

its a free upgrade to the next model memory, so it says 256 but you will get a 512 and if you dont, be polite and they will swap it for you (just dont open it) for the bigger model. all the paperwork is for the base size/price but the upgrade is done in the background and when delivered, you can claim the GIFT CARD too. dont panic, just check the side of the box before OPENING IT as a precausion but ALL OF THESE inc the >UPGRADE by defualt until the 6th as a preOrder ~ but if in doubt, you didnt ask for the upgrade or it wasnt mentioned, go into or call up TGGs and get it added as a NOTE

  • Hi all,

Just looking at this for the S24+. Can I check that you pay the full amount up front, and then you get $1600 returned to you when you pick up?

After then, you cancel and are issued with an invoice from Telstra for $800 for the cancellation of contract?

    Pax

    • +1

pay the full amount up front, and then you get $1600 returned to you when you pick up?

It is Instant discount. You pay $97

  • +1

So did you guys cancel the subscription already or are you waiting to receive the phone before cancelling? What are the downsides to both approaches?

  • +1

Has anyone got the phone already and cancelled the plan?

    • yeah im keen to know aswell.
