I feel this thing is dropping in price every 2 weeks

    • Don't HODL back!

    • +1

Yes, and it is very annoying for anyone who already bought one. They clearly mark them up crazy high.

      • +1

They do. Dyson's a premium luxury brand now. Always has been to some extent but nowadays they really take the pi55 with their pricing — a new model starts out at $1500 and then drops to $1000… then comes down gradually from there. They used to be amazing because they were engineered to the 'nth degree, but nowadays I'm not so sure. My Dyson V10 has been an absolute PITA of various problems, whereas previous vacs I'd had from them were better.

        • Yeah I am disappointed with ours.. has to be run on 'turbo' setting, the ordinary setting does not cut it. So the battery lasts less than 10 mins. Not their fault about energy density of batteries, but they should be honest about it in their marketing. I was hoping to replace our corded vacuum but it's still a pipe dream.

  • JB Hi-Fi refused to match on live chat.

    • +1

      Their rrp is ridiculously high

    • I was able to obtain a price match from JB. I provided a link to the cart, which included the $100 discount.

    Great vacuum.
Whoever you give it to will have a field day with the green light finding dust everywhere

    • This vacuum has been a godsend ever since we got a fluffy dog.

The only gripe I have is that I can't use the fancy green light head because it doesn't have the anti-hair so I'd have to clean the rollerhead every since time.

    • +1

this is the best and worst vacuum i've ever owned for that one reason.

  • Is this including all accessories as Dyson AU’s?

    • +1

Usually the ‘Complete’ models have more or extra accessories than the ‘Absolute’ models. But then again they change it so often it could just mean a colour change lol

      • +1

I've had my Gen5Detect Absolute for 4mths, recommendation is to try it out for a few months before considering getting the optional fittings packages.

As to the floor stands, suggest to avoid the metal ones, they are either heavy or they flex/wobble, not sure what purpose they really serve.

Reason for buying: swap from Cinetic Big Ball Animal.. it was bashing onto all the walls, damaging edges and skirtings like any other traditional floor-dragging vacuum cleaners

And just a heads up, there are plenty of cheap standing docks on Amazon that can do the job.

        • Any recommendations

I got one of these last month and love it. It has gamified vacuuming for me. I have 3 cats and a dog and my house feels so much cleaner now that I can see where all the detritus is gathering and grab it all. Makes it a lot more fun and almost faster in some ways.

    • +1

I got it yesterday and I tried it last night, feels and looks so good. I have a toddler so hoping it does a good job. :)

      • +1

I also have a toddler so can vouch for that too!

    • How is it on carpet with pet hair? I have a Viomi A9 and it's terrible, really struggles.

      • Its been great for me. I have two long haired cats and my dog is a pug so she has a double coat. Had no issues with it

        • Thanks! Does it have a head specifically for pet hair?

    • +1

got it for my wife's birthday. her real present is that i now vacuum properly.

  • +3

This thing is amazing, seriously transformed us cleaning with our old Dyson barrel. Its so easy to just pick up and spot clean where you find yourself doing alot more vaccuming in smaller batches. No more long extension leads down the hallway for an hour long vaccum, and it keeps the house cleaner more frequently due to ease of use.

  • Same price Dyson direct via ebay. Just add $1 filler item.

  • If this was price for the submarine head, would get it

  • Waiting for the "complete" to go on sale.

      2024 Black Friday!

    • I got the complete a few weeks ago for $991. $1044 minus 5% discount code)

      • That's a great price.

The Dok is $149, also 3 extra accessories, so it's well worth the extra $90.

Even a decent third party floor station is $90.

The cheap Amazon one is no go.

        Where/how did you get that?

        • +1

I got it directly from the Dyson website. It was on sale. I know it’s currently showing out of stock and $1549 but it showed that for me originally before coming back in stock. Keep an eye on if it comes back in stock it should still then be on sale. I then used code DYSJAN5 to get a further 5% off.

Keep in mind shopback offer 6% cashback and occasionally have 10% (can’t stack with code).

The stand is awesome and was the reason I went the complete.

          • @Slo20: Thanks, will check regularly. Live Chat did mention that stock is expected in Feb.

We have v10 with a Dok, it should be a standard inclusion, hence only interested in the Complete.

  • does this have the (easily) removable battery and can it take the mop attachment?

    Cheers

    • I got the “Complete” version recently during the 2023 Black Friday sale and did a bit of research on it. Yes it does have “easily” removable battery built in and no it can’t take Dyson’s “mop” attachment. The mop attachment is only compatible with the Submarine version.

    • The removeable battery is probably not a big deal. It's not like you will have a standby battery to swap around.

It's more for when you have to replace a faulty battery after 2 or so years.

3 screws every 2 years is hardly an inconvenience.

  • Is it worth getting the refurbished one from dyson ebay store? Certified Prestine appears as new for $749 after $50 ebay coupon.

Refurbished doesnt mean it has damage to the motor or anything does it? Just visual damage like a scratch?

    • I bought a refurbished one in Dec and no problems with it.

    • New ones come with two year warranty from dyson. Refurbished ones have only one year. Plus its the luck of the draw with refurbished models. I would prefer the piece of mind for such an expensive vacuum cleaner like this.

    • Dyson doesn't have a good rep on refurbs, to be fair, it's probably who they contract to refurb is cutting corners. So it will be luck the draw.

Unlike Dell outlet, when they say like new, it is literally new.

Dyson's like new is just copy-paste from a template, when a vacuum machine has been used, no matter how good they clean it, it's impossible to be like new. Sure they may have one or two genuinely open box but never used, how can they have 100+ like that, are they all like new?

Will they replace all batteries? Unlikely. Will they test all batteries then decide which ones to replace? Even less likely. Will they replace the filters? No, then it's not like new. While they may replace scratched up passive attachments, very unlike they will replace the motor heads.

When it costs so much to restore a product to like new condition, then you know they aren't going to bother, because it doesn't make economy sense. So, in reality most likely just a quick wipe down and re-box.

  • Plan to buy a new vacuum for 1 bed apartment that has carpet and timber floor. Gen5 might be too fancy but I'm not sure which dyson model is the best fit (v10 and later)

    • +1

I’ve been reading a lot of reviews and a lot of people say this model is a game changer for Dyson so might be worth investing in this one :)
The older models get mixed reviews

    • Definitely recommend the gen5 detect over others. This one has an on off button as opposed to a trigger you have to hold down which genuinely is a game-changer for ease of use.

      • On off button definitely a great feature. Note that the unit is quite large and heavier. I came from a v6

  • Not much but 1.5% shopback too so an extra $13 off, cashback has 2%

  • Bought it for $880 from HN. They price beat this deal, had to talk to the manger. He laughed and asked me not to post on OZBARGAIN.

    • Thank you for your service 🤣

    • Haha, it's like when your friend tells you a secret and asks you don't tell anyone, you immediately post on social media. :D

Here’s the JB PM if anyone needs it. Not buying anymore from JB. Order before 11:59pm

    • Gone from the looks of it.

    • needs a mobile number to "confirm it's you"

      • No point, JB Direct shopping cart expires at midnight.

      • That's because somebody used it already.

Is this significantly heavier than v12?

    • You can easily google for the weight of both

  • Ahhh damn got it 2 weeks ago for 970

  • +1

I bought one recently and it appears faulty - i could turn it on, but couldn't change settings, nor could I turn it off. Had to disconnect the battery to power it off. Contacted Dyson support and they sent out a replacement head unit …. but exact same issue with the replacement! So now I have to send it as a 'repair under warranty'.

I have a hard time believing two units could be dead on arrival … but that would mean the problem is with me … and given there are only two buttons on the dyson (one of which is the power button), I'm pretty sure it's not me that is the issue. So I'm pretty bummed with the quality of these machines so far.

    • What do you mean by replacement head unit? The actual vacuum body with motor and control unit? Or the cleaning head?

      • The vacuum body with motor and control unit.

        • That sounds ridiculous, like there's no quality control. Repair of the replacement they sent out to remediate.

          • @browser: I agree! At any rate, I've sent it off to repair - I will be very interested to see what the fault is.
