    huh? 3kg+ ultrabook?

    • but its thickness is only 20mm rite? :)

    • Yeah, that's in the product description, in the product specs tab it says 3.5kg…

  • Only thing ultabook about it is the 8hrs battery life..i got a timeline x and is able to achieve 5 fo 6 hours =)

  • +1

great specs, but the res!!! So close to being amazing

    • With this price, i think the res is quite acceptable since it's hard to find an i7 gen 2 at this price

    Reviews
    http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/acer-aspire-timeline…

    Pros
Fairly good performance, 7 hour battery, low weight for 15 inch class

    Cons
The screen doesn't have great viewing angles and all of the ports (including 3.5mm audio jack and USB ports) are located on the back of the device.

    • Who puts the audio jack on the back?

      • ikr!

and there's no mic input either (for those that hate laptop internal mics)

  • +2

Agree with the first post. how can an ultrabook be 3kg??

  • ouch, it is too heavy as an ultrabook :(

  • +3

It is only just over 2kgs (4.5 pounds), cotd shooting themselves in the foot.

    • I'm seriously about to buying this laptop. Can anyone point out any other downsides?
      Cheers :)

      • +1

There is a review website on the comment above, you should check out yourself ;). This laptop's also quite good to me :)

      • +4

        1366 * 768 is pretty nasty at 15.6"

Not a terrible all rounder though

      • +1

Only 2nd Gen i7 and RAM can be only upgraded to 6GB. But still overall pretty good for the price.

        • wow that's interesting that they embedded 2gb onto the mobo.. what if you get an 8gb sodimm though?

anyways i used to have a TimelineX 5820TG. was very happy with it.

this is a good deal for $650 even if 2nd generation i7. battery life is great (5-6 hours) and while it is not an ultrabook it is quite thin. but @ 3kg it is actually 1kg heavier than my ex 5820TG

        • correction

3kg would be the weight of the package.. the laptop itself weighs around 2kg

      • +1

I have the i5 version of this (minus the ssd) and it is probably the best laptop I've used for the price. Sure, it's not perfect - keyboard is a bit too flexy and the screen isn't great but I can't recommend it highly enough for that price.

        • -Thanks. The build quality is shonky but who can say no to a $650 gamers "ultrabook".

  • it includes 20GB ssd, does that mean it is SATA 3?

  • +5

This is blatant false advertising. This laptop doesn't conform to the ultrabook spec in a number of areas.

This is a more detailed review.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-Timeline-Ult…

I don't think this laptop has built in bluetooth and whats up with the Draft N wireless. Seems pretty messed up if it doesn't have bluetooth.

To extend the notebook's battery they used a ULV i7 not a typical i7 processor. It is more equivalent to an i3 processor.

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/253595/acer_s_timeline_m3_cou…

    • the notebookcheck review model has no BT but the COTD one has…

      Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.0

but yes you are correct about the cpu http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-2637M-Notebook-Pr…

      • the notebookcheck review was highly critical of the cheap display. Highly reflective and poor quality :(.

I realise there has to be some give and take when it comes to buying ultrabooks so cheap, but skimping on the display can cause you real headaches when trying to use this thing in anywhere but the darkest of environments.

And with a portable Ultrabook, thats not going to be the case.

  • No keyboard backlit…

    • +1

      Learn to touch type?

  • link to very similar model on Acer Australia's page (difference is 630M instead of 640M), shows BT 4.0 in specs —> http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/model-datasheet/NX.R…

  • does anyone have any idea about the cashback system? im mainly worried about delivery time, what if it takes longer than 14 days to reach me? apparently you need to claim cash-back within 14 days?

    • Probably COTD will send you the Serial Number via email address after you place an order.

      • +1

"Probably" is a big call for $150 on the line. I'd probably want to confirm with COTD before ordering.

  • Does anyone know what's happening with ultrabooks in the next few months?
I am hoping some of the current (more expensive) ultrabooks will drop in price so I can buy one by Feb.

  • Wow, i thought ultrabooks are ultraportable laptops. 3kg? Wow,thats so portable.

    • Really that terms is being used so loosely, good find though.

    • like i said above the laptop itself weighs 2kg.. the whole package is 3kg

and yes it is a laptop, not an ultrabook. albeit a thin and light 15.6" laptop.

    • +1

2k is actually pretty light for a 15 incher laptop.

      • haha, 2kg is super light man. I curse when I carry my 2.7kg xps 15 to uni everyday.

  • Just received confirmation today that my claim for cashback has been processed and will be completed. Good to know, as I believe I had submitted it after the deadline.
