It should be my first time post.

My I5-12600 did not have thermal paste and was using stock fan.
The temperature was very high, about 58 degree in BIOS with turbo boost on and about 48 degree with turbo boost off.
When installing CUDA, the system would 100% die due to high temperature. I had to disable turbo boost and limit CPU at 80% max to install CUDA…

Was seeking for a CPU cooler as I do not want to waste too much money simply on thermal paste.

Found this one a good price (regarding 3 camels and internet search), and since it comes with thermal paste, I chose to buy this.

Received today and installed it, my CPU temperature was down to 32 degree, which is 26 degree difference. Of course, the thermal paste should be a important reason, but this one is also better than the stock fan in my view.

If you do not care the colour, I think it is a good deal.

  • Fantastic cooler, I use this on my Ryzen 5800x and has been working like a treat.
I rarely ever go beyond 70c even at max load which is impressive on this type of CPU.

Good cooler to use in the case without side glass panel:)

If you're using the stock HSF, surely it had the pre-applied thermal paste?

    • Due to some reason, it was removed :)

If you're not doing anything CPU-intensive, the stock cooler with $3 thermal compound would have been more than sufficient.

Hopefully, there are some acoustic benefits as well. That aspect would be a bit harder to judge as the old fan would likely have been at 100% load.

        • yes, the noise it much lower than before.

Can say 80% of the temperature drop would be to thermal paste - don't underestimate this. That said - can't recommend which one to buy, but as long as you regularly reapply every so often , you'll be fine.

Also I'd would never install a cooler without paste.

  • why not just buy a tube of thermal paste?

the stock intel cooler is more than enough for most use cases.

that being said, this is a great deal for a great cooler. lower height than lots of other 120mm coolers which makes it an easier fit in smaller cases (such as CM NR200P and Corsair 280X).

  • I have this model for my NR200P case with tempered glass. Works a treat! $19 is a steal.

I should add that I run this on a 5800X3D which can run hot.

  • Thanks, got a nice excuse to build a gaming PC for missus

  • Got one of these and it's perfectly fine; zero complaints at $40.

For 20 bucks I'd seriously consider upgrading anything with a stock cooler

  • Hmmm, better than Ryzen 7600 stock cooler?

  • First up OP found a good deal on a cooler but that's a roundabout way of obtaining thermal paste! My advice, everyone should have a spare tube of thermal paste in their tool kit even if it's just the cheapo Aliexpress stuff for a few dollars. Thermal paste needs to be reapplied periodically. It doesn't last forever.
