  • Doesn't work for me, is it an Ebay plus thing?

    • Promo not working for me either….. (no ebay plus)

edit - just tired again and it worked. YMMV

    • Works fine, its not an exclusive ebay plus deal and there is more stock loaded as of Friday 5th @ 8am.

You can get the same deal from LuckyMobile here:

Can we port from Optus to boost after purchasing this ?

    • +2

      Yes

  • Will there be issues porting from Telstra to this? I’ve read some issues moving it to boost but not sure if things have changed now. Thanks!

    • +8

It used to be a lot more complicated but the process has gotten a lot easier. No need for blank SIMs and the like now. Ignore old reports.

      • Thanks Kipps! Great to know, cheers.

    • +5

I changed to Boost from Telstra yesterday - only took minutes………

      • Thanks for the feedback! That’s awesome to hear.

  • Do they have esim yet?

  • +12

I've been on Boost for a few years now, and my experience is consistently good. Full Telstra network, ability to receive SMS overseas instantly without having full roaming support, and Voice-over-Wifi also works well such that I could make phone calls overseas while within WiFi range.

    • If you receive SMSs while overseas,
can you reply to them from overseas, at no cost?

      • +2

no, need to turn on international roaming

        • So, without turning on the 'Roaming' option specifically,
you can receive SMSs from Australia.

I didn't know if these 12-month SIMs have roaming included or not.

          • +2

@whyisave: speaking from experience, i was able to receive sms whilst overseas but you need to pay extra for roaming so i just got airalo which was cheaper for me

          • +1

@whyisave: Yes, you can receive SMS from anywhere while overseas. There may be a limit to which countries perhaps, but I had no issues receiving SMS while in Malaysia and Thailand. This was helpful for SMS verifications.

            • +1

              @Make it so:

This was helpful for SMS verifications.

This really is so obvious, that I didn't even think of this :-(

Thank you for mentioning this !

      • +2

If your phone supports WiFi calling them you can make and receive calls and send and receive SMS while connected to WiFi. I usually purchase a local eSim and use the data on that SIM to make and receive calls from my Boost number.

        • Can you explain how do you do this? Do you keep two phones and put up a hotspot?

          • @chimps: Dual SIM phone

            • @Mistredo: @Mistredo As far as I know you can't switch on Wifi when you are on hotspot even in dual Sim phone.

              • +2

@chimps: In a dual SIM phone you have the Boost physical SIM and a local eSim. You have data turned on in the local SIM and WiFi calling on the Boost SIM. The Boost SIM will use the data connection on the other SIM as if its a WiFi connection. You won't need to be connected to WiFi. You can make calls over the data connection of the other SIM.

                • @immortanwayne: Great reply, thanks. Do you happen to know if this also applies to SMS? Or just phone calls?

                  • @wormarts: SMS also works. It has been over a year since I last used it though. I was in India for a month last year and this is how I was able to use my AU number while there. No need for expensive international roaming.

      • +1

You'll be able to reply to them if your phone has Vowifi and is connected to Telstra servers on Flight Mode.
        SMS will go over vowifi.

If the phone receives cell signal - the phone will try to route the sms via cellular - which does not work.

    • +1

It used to show Telstra as network name but now it’s Boost. Feels similar overall though

  • +1

is boost recharge to boost recharge ok, or is this the route that is problematic?

  • +13

    Shrinkflation…
    …the cheapest 12-month Boost plan
used to be about $135 (after discount),
is now about $185 (after discount).

    • +10

Old news mate. Prices went up mid last year.

      • +2

        Yes, I know.
I'm on these Boost 12-month plans for many years now.

After Boost was running the cheap $150 plans for 2-3 years,
they accumulated a big customer base and then
they jacked the prices 2-years ago,
and they also created a new 12-month plan,
as a differentiator amongst the 12-month plans.

They offer 5G now to the 12-month plans,
but they also removed international countries from the 'unlimited calls' list.

        • +3

I totally understand about the int calls, however, 95% of my family overseas (and probably 90% of all people now) have:
          1. A mobile
          2. Data
          3. A messaging app that you can make calls.

Honestly I don't see the issue and why so many people complain about this… It's only the old aunties and uncle that don't have a mobile.

It's comparable/ like saying 'omgosh that person doesn't have a land line I can call'.

Regarding the increase in price, honestly still great value, great coverage (I churned to 3 other providers in between my 12 months with boost and they were so terrible I could not believe it) and like everything, it's gone up in price.
Things will come down in price if economy tanks and these companies will be fighting for business again once the money dries up.

          • @cumova: I imagine for the bulk of non-old people that want international calls need it either for calls to foreign banks/services (god knows how often need to call such serviced), or to call other "old aunties/uncles" that don't use the likes of WhatsApp/Messenger/iMessage

          • @cumova: Good point, but also consider international stores/businesses that some people might need to call.

        • +2

Where else can you find $15/month for unlimited calls/text and 14GB of data on full Telstra network?

It's less than a dollar a week more, in the face of 2 years of brutal market conditions and I'll bet you can make that dollar back in wage raises and savings account boosts. Or do you expect your earnings to increase but nothing else?

More broadly, if people stop buying so much shit we wouldn't have this problem but people seem incapable of making themselves three meals a day.

    • +3

I'd say just inflation, as the data has gone up, but so has the price.

  • What are the chances of this item being sold for 170 or 175 over the coming weeks? Any views?

    • +1

Well I just ordered one for my phone plan that expires on 26th Jan - so judging by my previous luck with this kind of thing it’s a good chance it will go even cheaper before then. 😂

      • My boost phone plan also expires this day. It is abit risky as i don't know if i will port over in time. Who will you port over before porting back? 😅

    • +3

      I reckon about 3.50%

  • Anyone getting this error while applying the code 'Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again.'

  • Same price as Officeworks price match today - but got flybuys in addition 😉

  • +2

My current plan with Boost expires on 31st March. Can I use this one to recharge please?

    • +1

YMMV, I have rung them and told them someone bought me the sim thinking it was a recharge. They've activated it and moved my number over.

This was approx a year ago. See how you go?

    • +1

Generally no…. Port out and back again.

      • How can I port out since I am using exactly their service? Maybe I ask the chatbot to see how it works? xD

        • How can I port out since I am using exactly their service

Huh? You don't seem to understand what port out means…. It means porting as in changing to another telco.

So port out to optus for a day, and then back to boost.

          • @JimmyF: Thanks mate for the info. I have been using Boost for years now and I was just recharging it with the new plan. Not really sure why they have to do this port in and port out thing now.

            • @G13: Because the new starter pack credit is different to recharge credit.

If you don't want to jump through the hoops to save some dollars, then just recharge and be done with it.

  • +1

    Does this work for renewals?

    • +1

Last I heard they used to if you reached out via chat, and then they stopped doing it. I hope that’s changed again, as I don’t really want to port out and in again.

      • The chat loophole has been closed. You will need to call them, make some excuses like you accidently bought a sim instead of recharge. They will activate your sim and port in your number as once off.

BTW My plan expires today, I went to officeworks to price beat Luckymobile.com.au's sale price, the lady at the counter refused to price beat saying lucky mobile did not have the product code therefore they cannot price beat.

Later today, I sat on boost chat and explained that my boost plan was expiring today and was looking cheaper options to recharge. The chat rep offered $45 recharge voucher at first. When i requested if there was more offer to recharge 12 months instead so that i could pay and recharge today. She offered me a once of $230 credit and recharged my plan. A free year plan from boost, Happy Customer.

        • Sorry WHAT?! Free YEAR?! Wow!

          • @wellzi: Yes, I only requested a cheaper options to recharge for same value. The Chat Rep was like i will offer you a once off $230 compensation is that okay for you?. I said thank you so much. New plan will activate tonight, i could see new expiry is 8th Jan 2025.

            • @NPB: I've gotta try this.

    • +1

I've done this for the past 2 years, each year I just message the support chat and they port your number to the new SIM.
Did this in March last year and hopefully they haven't changed anything. Worst case just buy a $2 SIM from a different provider and port out then back in

  • This or Vodafone Costco deal

    • +1

Both are tempting. I kinda want the Voda as a backup as it’ll do eSIM. Boost as primary as overall coverage is generally just better… though that was obviously depend on where you live, where you visit, and the respective coverage of those areas.

      • i dont think you can do esim for apple watches for prepaid.

        • Correct, you cannot. They are a plan in itself, and only attached to Telstra/Voda/Optus post-paid plans. :)

  • Anyone knows the expiry on these? Still have 3 months on mine..

    • +2

It’s in the description of the eBay ad mate, cmon!

      • +1

Lol, my bad as I didn't click on the link. Thanks. Appreciate this

        • All good mate :) .. hope you were able to nab one!

  • My initial 12 month boost 260gb recharge is expiring soon. What's the best way to renew? It seems like a lot of people buy new, discounted SIMs and then ask for them to be credited to their existing number. Is that method reliable, or do they deny it sometimes?

    Thanks

    • +5

It’s not reliable, and I’ve heard increasing reports of them just not offering to do it anymore. I hope that’s changed as I really cannot be bothered porting out and in again.

      • Thanks for the info. How long would you have to port out for? And who are the cheapest providers to port to, if need be?

        • +3

Minutes possibly - but as long as it takes to port twice. Could also be days if things get screwy.

        • +1

As @WhyAmICommenting suggested, as long as it takes to port out and in. They say hours, but it realistically only takes minutes. :)

      • Was denied for our two phone services with Boost last time i renewed over chat and phone.
Had to port to Voda for 24hrs and then could port again

  • -4

Is that monthly GB or total for 12 months?

    • +2

      Total

  • +3

I was with Boost for a year and ported back to Amaysim. Didn't realise how bad the Optus network coverage is until I left Telstra.

    • Yeah this was my experience going from Telstra to Voda, but I was committed to 12-months, so got used to it. I would not do it again, other than to use the Voda as a back up data SIM.

      • You should of just grabbed the 1 month starter packs from coles/ww when on sale regularly for $5. I went through 3 of them (Vodafone, optus and amaysim) in less than 1 month and learnt my lesson to return to boost just before the major price increases.

        • Eh, it was like $120 for the year for Voda. The price increase does kinda suck, as my last year with Boost was ~$130 for the 170G plan (wife) and ~$180 for the 260G plan (me). Still, $187 is not bad to be on the FULL Telstra 4/5G network for another year. Capped, sure, but there's literally no scenario where I need more than 150Mbps. :)

  • Can I make use of this? I'm already a Boost prepaid customer.

    • +1

Likely not on your existing service. Like myself and many others, you will have to port out to another carrier (even if for minutes) and then port back in using this SIM.

  • +4

Chat is reluctant to do the porting these days. If you phone support and plead ignorance, my mistake etc they now come back with the line, just this once and it's documented in your history and they will port your old number to your new Sim and activate it. They seem to be a few cases where they have recharged the old Sim, so no Sim change. I get the feeling this is still going on because the support people get a kickback for a more complicated task like this. If you fail with this method then purchase an Aldi sim $5 and port to Aldi and back to boost. I don't believe it is necessary to stall the process at any stage. Just make sure you punch in all the correct details that will easy porting otherwise will need to seek help from support.
Even though the base price for 12mth boost Sim has increased, it is still ahead of the cheapest monthly plans (and better data rates) from other providers, except for perhaps for Woolies if you organise a monthly big shop up. And it has 5G, a better network and a receives SMS when OS as is.

    • they wouldnt do it. she offered a refund for the sim card

      • +1

The chat loophole has been closed. You will need to call them, make some excuses like you accidently bought a sim instead of recharge. They will activate your sim and port in your number as once off.

        • Damn, sounds like you know how to work the system. I in fact did call them and she said she could send me out a new sim card even though I had explained that my current sim card was faulty and I had another one in hand. Perhaps if I try to say it was a mistake to buy this sim card it might work, or is operator dependent.

          • +1

@Budju: Try again. Just play "dumb" and say you thought it was a recharge and bought it. It will work, they will say it's a once off and will do. Request them if they could recharge the exisiting sim. They used to do via chat which is no more.

I am happy the officeworks lady did not Price beat Lucky mobile, saved my at least $230 if not $169 .

            • +1

@NPB: I'll give it a crack and report back. Thanks mate

            • @NPB: Just tried it, she said they used to have the option to make a once off exception, but they no longer do. She said I should port out and port in again.

For clarity I called 1258881, said my account was the number detected, pressed 7, said 'account and operator', was transferred and said I bought some credit but they sent a sim. Operator said there was nothing she could do.

              • @Budju: Sorry to hear. I guess it all depends on who you speak/Chat to.

  • +1

Damn I literaally jut bought a sim from the servo and activated lol

  • Thanks op. Got one. Havent seen a good $230 sim pack deal in awhile.

I am already on boost. Can I port out and port in?
