Why would you expect it. It is an Amazon device after all. Figuring out whether supports google home, airplay or Apple should have been one of the first things you research before buying this. Unless they mentioned that there was support for the things you have provided, but haven't actually support that, then you are in the right. If you haven't done any quick research before buying it, then that is on you.

Do you even research bro (or sis)?

Why do all your comments come across as angry? And why do you put dots before exclamation marks?

No google home no airplay or Apple support.!

Ahh yes, because if you get Google, you can use Alexa on it.

Come on Einstein, this is an Amazon product playing Amazon's Alexa, the Apple homePod only plays ApplePlay and Google Nest requires google assistant. They only support their own environment….

I've got these scattered through the house, one in every room. Worth it as intercoms / timers / audible clock alone. It's so nice to be able to wake up all the kids with an announcement while I'm still in bed or getting changed. Very handy to use as timers for cooking, brushing teeth, etc.

Incidentally, I think this is an atl for the pop, iirc lowest has been $29.

My biggest bitch is no concept of a global timer or being able to move timers between devices

      • Yeah, very true. It's especially silly in large areas where I have two echo devices, both of which have separate timers and alarms. Not that big a deal though.

I do like being able to change the activation word, and that's why I went for it instead of Google's offering. It's so awesome to have preschool aged kids yelling "Computer, tell me how to spell X".

Your house is a policed state

I have young kids. I already run a police state at home.

      • Man, if only Winnie the Chinese Pooh heard what I currently say about him behind his back but right into Alexa.. 😅 Sometimes I just say Hey Alexa, (profanity) CHYNA..

        • Why is winnie the chinese pooh living rent free in your head?

          • +3

@CptnObvious: Because I'm half Chinese and expect those clowns in West Taiwan to try and rejoin with East Taiwan very soon.. 😪

            • @WasBargain: Just move to hk and acclimatise yourself

            • +2

@WasBargain: I've given you a + but you may have lost some social credit

              • @CacheHunter: Thanks brother.

Just last week the public toilet wouldn't dispense me toilet paper because I'm left in the low, double digits now..

    • 2 for $40 on prime day has been the best price if you need multiples of 2. Other $25 definitely the lowest

  • do these work as just bluetooth speakers, not doing anything in the amazon ecosystem?

    • +2

my echo dot 3rd can play music through spotify and use mobile to control. pretty sure it connects to bluetooth as a player as well.

    • Yep you can connect your PC using Bluetooth with Amazon dot, so I assume it is the same for Pop. Just the volume is strangely lower than the voice from Dot itself. Such as if I play YouTube video with certain vol, but then if I ask Alexa something the response volume is much louder which is very annoying

      • so if you just take it out of the box, n plug it in, can then connect via bluetooth and use it as a speaker?
or do you need to set it up in amazon system first?

        • +1

I think you are aiming for the wrong product. just buy a bluetooth speaker.

the Echo Pop needs to constantly be connected to the wall socket for power and is designed to be a Voice assistant/streaming (spotify etc) speaker. you are relying on it functioning like a bluetooth speaker but that's usually a "optional feature" that sometimes doesn't work well and how you expect.

e.g. I have google mini and the bluetooth on it is terrible. bluetooth constantly disconnects after a few songs and also occasionally cannot connect at all. I think it's probably related to having strong WiFi antenna next to the BT antenna, and obviously design requires WiFi to be priority.

"or do you need to set it up in amazon system first?"

also yes you have to set it up first (download app, sign in, connect speaker to app, finish tutorial etc). you cannot just plug it in and connect bluetooth. same with google mini.

        • I did set up mine first, and I guess you do need to do that since then you need to use voice control to put the device in pairing mode.

Amazon account is free to get, why not just get one for you if you don't have one.

  • Can I use this as a speaker for my doorbell? My family sometimes miss the rings because they are in another room.

    • +3

I have two echo's connected to my eufy doorbell and they ring when someone presses it.

      • How do you set this up?

        • you will need to add the Eufy Doorbell skill in the Alexa app and allow the two to talk to each other. It is more "native" with Ring doorbell though, wherein if you have an Echo with a screen, when someone presses the Ringdoorbell, it will automatically show who's at the frontdoor. With Eufy doorbell, Echo Show will only make a doorbell sound and you will have to ask Alexa to show you the front door.

  • Got it free from topcashback last time. Kind of disapointed that it cant be used as a PC speaker.
