World Heritage 12-Month Membership kr997.50 (~A$153.96) @ Ancestry Sweden

60

Ancestry are currently having a sale around the world, but it's cheapest in Sweden! No VPN required.

This works for new or lapsed subscriptions. You may have issues renewing with these prices outside your region.

I was able to purchase the World Heritage 12 Month Subscription for AUD 153.96 paying with PayPal.

The Worldwide subscriptions include everything from Australia, US, Europe etc. After you subscribe in Sweden you'll have immediate access for your Australian account on the Australian Ancestry page.

How to access discount

  1. Go to ancestry.se
  2. Login with your current Ancestry account or sign up (it might be easier if you sign up on the Aus website)
  3. Click on the discount subscription banner on the front page, or here: https://www.ancestry.se/c/nyar?o_iid=133156&o_lid=133156&o_s…
  4. Choose the subscription you want. Worldwide is kr997.50
  5. Pay with PayPal or Credit Card.
  6. Go to Ancestry.com.au and refresh the page. Your subscription is now active.
  7. Remember to cancel subscription.

Other options
Here's a comparison of all the Ancestry countries listed from cheapest to most expensive. All prices converted using Xe.com https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/

Note: Some Ancestry subscriptions are only offered for 6 months, while others are offered for 12. Given the Swedish option is 12 months, I think it's the best deal right now. But if you only want 6 months then Germany is the way to go.

Germany (6 months) €29.50 (AUD 47.93)
Canada (6 months) CAD64.99 (AUD 72.26)
France - (6 months) €59 (AUD 95.86)
USA - (6 months) USD84 (AUD 123.29)
Sweden - (12 months) 997.50 kr (AUD 145.13) PayPal charged me AUD 153.96
UK - (6 months) £99.99 (AUD 186.78)
USA - All Access (6 months) USD129 (AUD 189.33)
Australia - (12 months) AUD 224.99
Mexico (12 months) MXN $2999 (AUD 259.38)
Italy - (12 months) €199 (AUD 323.59)

Note 2: USA have an additional subscription called All Access. You get access for 5 accounts, and access to Ancestry, Fold3, and Newspapers.com

Thanks to @scampy for inspiring this with his recent deal.

  • What is this actually useful for?

Family history and research. If you just want to put together a family tree you can always use the free version, but if you have family around the world then a subscription helps you access things like births, deaths, and marriages data, old school yearbooks, and census data, for example.

You can get a 2 weeks trial if you want to try it out, but for the past year I've been wanting to use it a bit more so this sale came at the right time for me.

      • Nice ! I havent even done my DNA test yet but i want to. Ive heard its risky though due to data farming etc

        • I'm honestly not sure about that, but you can always sign up using a fake name if privacy is a worry.

          • @jimmyjrg: Unfortunately you do need to use real DNA though. This means your genetic markers are kept on file by a private corporation. I guarantee* no consequences will come of that though.

            *not a guarantee

This subscription is for the family tree part, not the DNA service.

      • More like if your parents end up giving you a step sibling and once day they do the test. It will link to your family tree assuming someone's DNA ja up there

  • Don't these services get to use your DNA for whatever they please after you give it to them? They should be paying for the DNA…

    • Maybe like scifi movies. They have a database of the most elite class of people (high IQ, inventors, war lords, etc ) and can sell the DNA when cloning becomes a true reality?

  • So how does it work exactly, the service?

    • You create a family tree and then it suggests potential matches for other relatives that appear in other users trees (unless they’re set to private) and potential matches of people in databases around the world like births, deaths, marriages, obituary listings in newspapers, census data, immigration records, addresses in white pages etc.

If you’re curious there’s a 2 week trial. You can still build a family tree without a subscription but you won’t be able to view documents in their database. Usually it will give you enough information still so you could go to a library and find that information, but having the subscription would save you some effort.

  • Thanks for the post… I've tried to add 6months to my current (nearly expired) membership via the germany site but it tells me I'm on the wrong site. Should a vpn help?

    • Ah not sure about that sorry. This worked for me with a lapsed membership but I guess they don’t let you mix currencies if you’re already subscribed.

  • I don't think this information is entirely correct. You state that the World Heritage subscription doesn't include DNA access, but I have this subscription and I do.
Also you list the 12 month subscription in Australia at $224.99, but when I go into the settings to renew my subscription, it's listed at $449.99.

This is for new subscriptions not renewals as far as I can tell. (I’ll add clarification to the post) For Australian subscriptions there’s a sale on right now that will only show you the sale price if you go to the offers page. See this deal for the link: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/823886

Regarding the DNA, what I mean is that this deal isn’t for the DNA kit and is for building your family tree and getting access to documents on Ancestry. You can access your DNA data without any subscription as it’s a separate product really.

Thanks for the research done and shared tip. Chose German 6m as trial. Even renewal price not too bad.
