      It's "A Christmas Tradition"

    • +10

thank you for asking, "elf on the shelf boy skin" sounds like something that'd get my google search history on a police watch list

    • +13

Complex. It's essentially a fake manufactured "tradition" that's started happening in the last few years.

You put the elf toy on your shelf and you tell your kids that it spies on them at all times and reports back to santa if they're naughty or good. Basically it teaches your kids what it's like to be in a police state.

      • Hahaha, awesome breakdown.

I guess it works with same with Winnie the Pooh in China.

      • So basically God / Santa ? Not very original.

Does it actually have a camera and microphone, or do I need to add them?

        • +1

Well, the original part was convincing parents everywhere that it was in fact a tradition and therefore they needed to buy the elf (and book of course).

Also, you're not allowed to touch it otherwise its magic will go away and it won't be able to go back to santa. Santa treats the fact that one of his workers couldn't report back / was eliminated as grounds for worse gifts. This is in the book by the way. Also the elf hides and watches you from a different place every day.

      • You just blew my mind! Now, how on earth am I going to get rid of this for next year 🤔

    • +3

Its a crappy book and a creepy elf doll to try scare your kids into being good because the elf is always spying on them and reporting back to HQ CIA style so they live under constant surveillance in their own home =P

      Typical American stuff

I think the elf toy thing is $5 at Coles Express, saw it today.

Snoop On A Stoop is $3.34 at Ali Express

  • +2

Why didn't Myers just call this "Elf on the Shelf" - instead of "Elf on the Shelf BOY Skin" which just sounds a bit weird to me.

    • There is also a girl option.

      • +3

Only two? What is this, the 1950s?

      • +1

Then why not just say "elf on the shelf - boy"… Instead of the bizarre and odd "BOY skin"?

        • +1

what about non-binary skin? they must cost more…

          • +1

@GregFiona: Just buy the boy one and call it non-binary, that's the OzBargain way

  • Get one of these if you have too much spare time in the lead up to Christmas and want another chore after the kids have gone to bed.

    • +2

I loved waking up in the middle of the night remembering i didn't move the elf and that all hell would break loose in the morning.

  • +3

Just when I thought the "Elf on a Shelf" concept couldn't be creepier, along comes the "Boy Skin".

  • Myer description to clarify;
The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition BOY - LIGHT SKIN

    • Yeah, because the DARK SKIN is probably disabled and in a wheelchair.. Just like Targets Santa figurines.

  • +2

    Almost assumed it's gender, phew.

  • +2

    So they're selling boy 'off-cuts'?

  • +1

Wow such an ancient tradition since 2005 marketing more garbage for people to buy for a holiday cos profits…

  • My EA has two elves, as she has two kids. It’s like a supercharged advent calendar, where each morning the kids have to find out what the elves got up to during the night: eg. Swing from the ceiling fan, eat all the chocolate etc.

Needless to say Mum and Dad are running out of ideas as Christmas approaches.

  • Ahh yet another USA "tradition" we love to accept in United States of Australia.
If only we had turkey for Christmas dinner, oh wait, gobble gobble!😂🍗

  • will there be a feminine edition?
