these external tv dongles never work for me i.e. when using the supplied antenna, looks like you need to connect it to your dedicated antenna on the roof.

That's normal for all DTV devices, including your flat screen TV. Indoor antennas generally don't work in Australia, unless you are very very close to the transmitter.

Do yourself a favour and get a Winfast DTV Dongle Gold from MSY or UMart (usually ~$28, on special at MSY for $18 atm). They have quite a strong tuner in them, compared to most and they are very easy to setup and use.

      • are you using the indoor antenna with the winfast?

EDIT: nevermind, it appears indoor antenna's are useless regardless of how strong the tuner is

If you have the antenna port in your room they are great for turning a laptop into a TV.

  • Note:
To receive signal for digital TV, a powerful antenna is needed (Different to analog TV). The antenna that comes with this USB Digital TV Tuner is insufficient in most area. To receive digital TV signal, an outdoor antenna is recommended.

    • Rabbit ears antennae work fine for my digital TV's indoors in suburban Brisbane. So you won't know what does AND doesn't work for your location until you try it.

Best not to believe these types who make such categorical yet baseless statements.

  • I've got one of these and it works a treat, but I am using an outdoor antenna, didn't even bother with the toy antenna it came with.

  • yup you need a big antenna for this one,

  • Harvey Norman Alexandria have USB tuners for $19.99,
No real deal on this one

    • Does the HN one do DAB as well?

      • DAB is a joke… Better question, do these have BDA drivers? If not, best avoided.

        • TLA much?

  • www.computeronline.com.au vs www.onlinecomputer.com.au?
mate.. you need to be more creative…

  • bought a winfast one for about $20 something, works fine with the little indoor antenna

  • What chipset is this?

    • realtek RealtekĀ® 2832U chipset

  • Hey guys, just wondering if any of you can help me. I am renting a place at the moment and I get all the free tv channels like One, GO!, Extra etc. but no channels are in HD.

Does this mean I need to get the owner to install a better antenna on the roof or what's the go?

    Thanks in advance =)

    • Not all channels are available in HD, 7Mate, GEM, ABC News24, OneHD and SBSHD is about all you could hope for down the goldie I think. You might get a mix of Brisbane stations along with others.

Are you sure you have a HD set-top box, not a SD-only one?

      • I don't have a set top box… I know only some channels are in HD but im not getting any HD channels, all of them are in SD…

I have tried o get HD channels on both my Sony 46" Full HD TV and my PC using a Hauppauge HVR-2210 Tuner card with no luck.

        Any ideas why? Thanks

  • Where is the bargain? Can you show the regular price, or the discount compared to other similar item?
