Kings 12Ah Lithium Portable Power Pack - 12Ah capacity at 12.8V (153.6Wh) $139 + $10 Shipping @ 4WD Supacentre

50

I got the Anker 737 from the previously posted deal hoping to run my camping fridge for a day at the beach on New Years, but unfortunately it did not work as the USB-C to car socket adapter was delivering 20V which means the fridge thinks it is a 24V battery low on juice and shuts off. So in a pinch I saw this one on sale and grabbed it.

The capacity of this is 153.6Wh, which is 80% more than the Anker 737 (as this is 12AH at 12V), and this is cheaper as well. It has a car socket plug which allows the higher current lower voltage draws in addition to the USB-C, which maxes out at 60W (That is the biggest drawback I can see, but then you can get a car socket to USB-C thats rated for higher).

The other drawback I can see is that it can't be taken on a flight (without approval), but I wouldn't want to be lugging a 1.5Kg powerpack on it anway.

How does it compare to 20000mA portable power banks?
It is like 60 times more capacity when compared to this?

    • +2

20,000mah power banks X 3.2v = 64Wh. This has 154wh. You need to take the voltage into account when calculating capacity.

      • +1

EDIT: should be 3.6V for the power bank, ie
        20,000mAh = 20AH x 3.6V = 72Wh

        The Kings is 12AH (12,000mAh) x 12.8V = 154Wh

so the Kings is a bit over 2x the capacity of the 20,000mAh power bank.

I think you'll struggle to run fridge all day on this.

    • +2

A smaller fridge (20L?) would probably be fine, someone in the reviews seems to say at least.

Another reviewer says 4-5hrs, guessing a larger 50L one.

For a "day" at the beach it looks like a good unit.

      • +2

Yeah, a day will realistically be like 4 to 6 hours, plus pre-chilling so that it's only trying to keep the temperature at 3° for the duration which should be doable.

      • +2

You’re probably right, I was coming from powering a fridge while camping, and thinking about the power needed then - but a day at the beach is probably a lot shorter.

        • I use a 7ah battery on a 50L brass monkey fridge, paired with a small 30w solar panel. Runs all day no problem, and half the night as well (as it cycles).

          • @tunzafun001: Most likely on a fairly clear non cloudy mild day between 15-30 C. As soon as it

gets above 30 C with some higher humidity, then a few clouds mixed in and that numbe

can easily go down by half or below.

If you pre chill your fridge and keep it full, open once a while 2ah for 6hrs sounds doable. Recommend freezing some water bottle ahead of time.

  • I got an intex kayak motor from an Ozbargain deal a while back. This might be just enough for it and no charger required.

I don't think this has enough power for those.

      • +1

Yea it doesn't have enough power.
I think The Magic Pudding is referring to this motor which requires 420W:

Which means you need something capable of 50amp continuous draw to be safe. This one is about 7

    There’s a 24AH one too.
Any ideas if this does power pass thru?
I think not, because Kings suggestion is to run your fridge off your accessory port THEN switch over to this power pack, but wanted to see if anyone knew.
