  • That's pretty good for flights that time of year :-)

Here's a warning for everyone: don't pay with PayID.

My partner got one of the discounted flights this morning, perfect dates, perfect time, good seats. Chose to pay with PayID. Being a new recipient, her bank chose to delay the payment by a few hours for security reasons.

By the time they processed it, almost 4 hours later, JetStar had cancelled the booking. In the meantime there was nothing we could do. The money was on hold, JetStar didn't offer alternative payment methods to use instead after initially selecting PayID.

Booking again now is not an option: prices jumped by several hundred dollars in the meantime.

The person I had on chat told me there's nothing they can do. Well, Jet&*@E& should not offer that payment method in that case. Very annoyed.

Oh well, the good old: price beat against other airline will eventually get her a flight at a similar price. Just not today…

That's not really Jetstar's fault, it's the bank's for being overly cautious. I think it's a good thing that Jetstar offers a payment method that doesn't come with a surcharge (as all credit/debit options do).

I paid for multiple Jetstar flights 2 weeks ago using PayID and had no issues. It's one of the main reasons I left Commbank for Up bank, I got so sick of them holding my transfers for 24 hours for every new payee.

I bought my JQ flights last night.

When I got to the payment page, I looked for the POLI option. Previously, this option allowed for instant payment without credit/debit card fees. POLI was run by Australia Post.

The Jetstar website claimed that PayID was instant, though this option is complicated compared to POLI.

I remembered that during the pandemic, some people got cashbacks from credit card companies when flights were cancelled. Also, there is credit card travel insurance. So, I opted to pay the $A4 fee and book using a credit card.

Jetstar should either bring back the POLI option or fix PayID.

    • Didn’t Poli go out of business or something?
