Saw this browsing Google and couldn't believe the price.
$29.99 advertised but drops down to $24 with the extra Boxing Day 20% off.
Was able to use Cashrewards on this.
Would make a great gift if you weren't in the market for a knife.

Same price at Robins kitchen, same company by the looks of it but different locations

That's cause $24 is RRP.
Baccarat is OzBargain code for "complete junk"
Isn't House always running a closing-down sale?
The Persian rug store tactic, been closing down for 20 years

"the finest Japanese Steel 420J2"
Lol 420j
420J is the worst, it's everything bad about stainless steel for knives, turned up to 11. It's soft, forms a massive burr when sharpening that is very difficult to remove, resulting in a crappy edge unless you're amazing at sharpening. It also rusts quite easily, which is ridiculous for a stainless steel with the worst qualities of stainless.
Compared to something like Sandvik 12c27 or 14c28n, AEBL, VG10, it's just objectively worse in every way.
A $30 Victorinox will be MUCH nicer to use and maintain than this knife, or most others from House.
Was $139.99. I can’t believe that price either.
"House" is pretty much designed for the OzBargain demographic, and who can blame them? It clearly works.
I give the OzBargain demographic more credit than that.
House/Bacarrat is seen as having average to low quality products with ridiculously high RRP just to show massive discounts when sold at a more reasonable price. House/Bacarrat posts generally have negative comments when posted on here.
This isn't a bargain, it's available at this price at multiple places and it's always 'on sale'.
The RRP is a joke.
OP joined 2 days ago, Baccarat ia;ways try this tactic for their junk.
Good knifes I have the set.
Dunno if I could buy a single though
Good knives? Have you ever used any other ones?
KFC plastic ones?
.
Single use plastic knives are now banned except in TAS & NT. The wooden "knife" substitute was the worst cutlery I've ever used. It failed to cut a hamburger (failed at cutting the buns, patty, beetroot, & pickles, only good at pushing shredded lettuce aside). The wooden "fork" failed to pick up anything and was only good at shovelling food.
@alvian: And the spoon fails at anything not solid as its completely flat
The Invicta of knives. Generally, you should avoid any knife without a hardness rating that is affecting luxury.
Can anyone recommend a good santoku knife?
I like the vorda santoku knife from ikea, only negative I can think of is the bolster.
Victorinox is the way to go, an example at https://www.kitchenware.com.au/victorinox-swiss-classic-ergo…
Obligatory friends don't let friends by Baccarat knives
Think someone did a review on these "Japanese knifes" on you tube and they were shit and went blunt after like 5 uses
Garbage knife - all you really need is a victorinox chefs knife, short paring knife, a shapton pro 1000, a cheap bread knife, and a knife magnet. All you will ever really need for less than $200.
Unless you're doing stuff like sashimi and other really fine work all the time you don't need a santoku. If it's every now and then you can get away with a chefs knife.
Spend the money on a made in saucier, or a demeyere proline pan.
I love my saucier. Everyone should own a saucier
Is that a chef's knife in lingerie?
i would add a boning / carving knive to the list. I have a fancy 6 knives set and i only use the chef knife in the set and most of other time i use the Victorinox 6 inch curve boning knive.
Add a cleaver, just because they're fun to use. Excellent for portioning jelly too.
$200 sounds too much for a reasonable set of knives, and many would be well served by a budget set of knives and never care about the difference.
I am here using my MasterChef knives from Coles… never had an issue with them if they are blunt I hone them on the honer and back to slicing and dicing again.
I did pickup a Wusthof set back when DJ's had them for $200. Nice knives same thing hone them and back to slicing and dicing.
On the contrary I used to buy cheapish knives regularly, about 10 years ago I bought some Zwilling Henckels 4 stars and still use that to this day with some sharpening and it's still just as good as the day I bought
Added a Yaxell Zen Santoku this year purely cause there was a good deal on it though
stop the cap, something like this is plenty good enough:
2 minutes of silence for OP who just purchased this thinking it to be a great deal!
Ah, only the finest 420J2 steel for Baccarat knives.
Seems to be this price at multiple retailers
