I have both one of these Sandisk 240GB Drives and a Samsung 830 256GB and overall the Samsung 830 256GB is so much faster! in every way!

Apart from that this drive is a rock solid product and i havent had a single issue with it both running windows 7 and windows 8 :) +1 for sure

    • Good to know. Just got a Samsung 830 256GB, but yet to try it out. Was suprised that is is noticably faster than Sandisk 240GB. Sandisk 240GB was able to boot up Windows 7 in about 5 seconds. Thought that was impressive enough. Can't wait to try out Samsung 830.

So much faster my butt. Possibly for the unusual task of large file copies, but for SSDs' main function (app loading) an objective measure will show little significant difference between this drive and the 830 or 520 or m4 or similar class SSD.

so much faster! in every way! ??? You may get higher synthetic benchmark results for Samsung 830, but really can you feel a difference in day-to-day activities ?? I don't think so.

Im talking about FASTER in every single way from just using the computer in everyday tasks..
Playing Guildwars 2… Samsung load's a good 3-4 seconds FASTER!! thats huge when the game takes only 9 seconds to load on the Sandisk ( loads on every zone you enter… it is connection effected but both are on the same connection cabled up to the same modem.

Loading into windows is also 3-4 seconds faster… apps open quicker.. the whole sysyem feels faster … the Samsung craps all over the Sandisk while im using it…the PC's are side by side and share the same motherboard and CPU.. + windows 8 OS

This is my experience and i will not be buying another Sandisk when the Samsung is so much better

Benchmarking both drives the sandisk had better scores… 500-360mbps read/write vs 490-290 read/write on the samsung

the PC's are side by side

So in other word, they are on two different PCs. Even if all the hardware are identical, there might be different software/drivers etc installed that could affect the speed. Or even different BIOS settings?

        • I have a M4 and a sandisk, using the same hardware/software/monitor/mouse/index testing finger the speeds are quite different "testing" with AS SSD Benchmark, loading games and window there is no difference :)

        • 256GB m4 vs 240GB Sandisk - on H77 platform, intel SATA3, Sandisk boot up Windows 7 faster (8 seconds (m4) vs 5 seconds (Sandisk)). Just for your information, m4 is on a H77 system running i7, whereas Sandisk is on a system running i5 (both Ivy Bridge CPUs). Motherboards are both made by Asus.

That said, Sandisk on SATA2 performance can be really bad (way below par) so when running on SATA2, m4 may have a chance to even beat it.

So, a fair comparison is SATA3, preferably with two systems using equal hardware (or as close as possible). If you only have a SATA2 system, I suggest you avoid Sandforce chipset SSDs (inc. this one).

        • True .. this also could be the issue.. but dont remember any drives i've installed lately as the OS is still a consumer preview and not many win8 driver updates come out

  • paid $187 for Intel 530 120GB in late april…
    It's dropping so fast!

  • Nice .. time for me to claim another $40 refund :)

    • 28 Degrees MasterCard ?
If yes, How much time does it take for them to process the credit back to CC account?

      • Usually 5-10 days.. Bought 2 of these back in April? when they were $249.. already claimed $100, now to claim another $40..

        • Does this refund need to be directly pay by credit card or support paypal as well? I have a 28 Degrees MasterCard but never tried getting refund…

        • @vita
you have to pay for this extra service.
there is no such thing as free lunch :)

    • Is there a cash back deal? if so would you kindly share?

    • What is this refund you speak of? I have a 28 Degrees card

  • Im intrigued. Whats the 40$ cashback ? I DEFINITELY do not need it, but will want it if there is a 40/- cashback :-)

  • I'd possibly get this from here instead of my local MSY, but they don't seem to do combined shipping as they also have something I want too that's a pretty good price. I'd have to pay $14 shipping for each item.

  • There is no cashback at all.. I get a refund on my credit card if an item I buy on it goes down it price. I have to lodge an insurance claim etc.. I'm not going derail this thread any further, as I have no affiliation with scorptec or sandisk etc.. Please don't ask any more questions etc.

    • Oh yeah I totally forgot about that feature of the card. Thanks for the reminder. How many months is the refund period again?

  • It is a good SSD and I already been using since May and love it.

  • Have been putting off getting an SSD for my desktop OS drive, but now I have to due to a dead HDD!

Need some advice as to whether to get this for $189 (delivered), or the Samsung 830 128 for $99 (no delivery) from Centrecom (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81570)?

It will be only for the OS and programs, plus I'll use it to transfer video to it from a HDD for editing (and back to the HDD once done).

    • 128gb will be enough… but if you need the space grab the 240gb.. remember that you should always leave 15% of the SSD free at all times.. otherwise you will reduce the speed of the drive.

    • It will be only for the OS and programs, plus I'll use it to transfer video to it from a HDD for editing > >(and back to the HDD once done).

I'm no expert but maybe grab the Samsung (maybe in 256GB if you're doing video editing) since the Sandisk uses Sandforce. Sandforce works great with compressible files but since you'll be transferring video, the Sandforce controller could slow down the copy a little.

  • I call BS on $249 normal selling price. MSY has it doe $179 as well in more locations. There are about 10+ stores on staticice.com.au who sells them for less than $200.
