Launcher of launchers. Possibly the most useful 10c purchase I've ever made.

      (Edit - but see caveat)

      • So I bought this in 2018 for my Nokia. Can I use it on my new Oppo phone? Great launcher ..love the short cuts… Not too sure about data harvesting though…hmmm.

        • +1

Yeah you should be a able to, as long as you use the same Google acct.

  • +15

Been using it for years. Super stable.

    • Same here, still my favourite and my only launcher. Anyone who likes customization, then Nova is the best.

  • +13

    wow this still exists!

    • +5

Went down memory lane when I saw this post and remembered that I had purchased it many years ago. Installing it as we speak

  • +32

Been using this on every android phone I've had in like 10 years. Still impressive. 10c is an absolute bargain.

    • Ditto. Had a look and purchased it in this deal and been using it since.

Checking in. 11 Years and counting
      https://i.imgur.com/4YlPBFV.png

    • I've tried, but unfortunately it doesn't work with Xiaomi/poco as the system seems to remove any way to use gestures while using it.

On my pixel 8 pro it works mostly fine, but extremely often seems to have a minor crash, where the 'desktop' icons will disappear after clicking, without launching the app. Swiping for the app drawer seems to bring them back, but it happens every 5 minutes or so..

  • +7

    Worth 500x that.

I might be in like year 8 or 9 now

    Get it

    Screw the default launchers

  • +4

    Why does one need it?

    • very very customisable.

    • +1

When stock Android launchers suck (they're getting better, not all of them though)

    • +4

      You don't need it.

It just provides an option for a different 'feel' in the home screen launcher.

If you don't like it, uninstall and move on.

I suppose it's an advantage of Android; iOS users are stuck with their launchers, whereas Android users can try other launchers if they feel like it.

      • +6

        Why the downvote?

        • I don't know, i can't upvote anymore.

Anyway why the downvotes, am i wrong?

          • +3

@smartProverble: If you are going to go to every deal here and let people know they don't need the item, you're going to be quite busy indeed. Probably why you're being down voted.

Also, I've been using Nova so long I don't even know what the default experience is like, and I don't care. Nova has beem awesome for me.

If you don't lie it, move along.

          • +10

@smartProverble: LOL anytime you say anything that implies anything negative about iOS, you will get downvoted. They're the most blindly devoted customers on the planet. Apple knows it and they've done an amazing job to get there. Any company would kill for that kind of brand loyalty

Watch me get downvoted now too. LOL. Apple fanboys/girls are hliarious

            • +2

@User889344: Lol anyone that lines up to buy an Apple is a poser and insecure af

              • @montorola: I'm not gonna go that far as calling them names, but their loyalty/devotion can't be questioned

      • +4

if 'need' was a requirement, this would be ozbarren

    • +1

You don't really ever need it, but it's great if you don't like the default launchers. Samsung's ui is great, but I used a huawei and nova was far better.

    • +1

highly customizable and you can backup/restore the launcher settings so whenever you swap phones and reinstall this launcher its exactly the same as you like it.

you can set custom gestures like scroll down to open notification panel (without having to reach for the top edge), scroll up to open app drawer, double tap for phone or camera, etc.

    • Once you customise it to what you like, it will form the primary interface for every phone you will ever buy. It's very useful.

    • +1

For me, it's to be able to bring my icon layout from phone to phone.

  • +2

I stopped using this a few years ago when gestures came out and it was slower/ glitchy-er to use third-party launcers. Has that been fixed?

    • +4

Mostly, on my pixel 8 going home often produces a blank screen until I swipe up a second time.

      • +1

Same. It also happens opening apps.

      • Interesting. I've never seen that on the 8 Pro.

      • I uninstalled it for this exact reason.

      • Yeah this had stopped me from using it for now. What are you using alternatively? Weirdly enough I've found the Microsoft launcher to be really great..

  • Used it since Galaxy S2. Been meaning to get back to installing. Thanks for this.

  • Best launcher. Cheap at full price.

  • Ok total noob regarding launchers here…

Can I install this on my Motorola edge?

How hard is it to install?

Does just act as a launcher, will I still have access to standard Android settings etc?

Is it easy to switch back to the Motorola/Android launcher?

    Thanks!

    • +5

      Yes.

Easy, just like any other app. Lots of customisation options. Set it up simple or change lots.

      Yes/yes.

      Yes.

      • Thanks brilliant and to the point reply :)

    • You just install it, and when you go to the home screen, it 'feels' different.

It's an app so you just uninstall it if you don't like the new look and feel.

The cool thing about launchers is that it gives you a 'different' feel and look, makes your phone feel 'new'. Some default launchers on phones are lame (e.g. Oppos and Xiaomis in my opinion, looking cartoony) so these alternative launcher apps lets you experience something different.

      • +2

Thanks, good to know, in my head I was like, do I need to root my phone or something? Lol. Again noob I'm not going to lie.

Why did you neg the deal, just curious?

        • Nope. No root required. Usually gives you a different home screen and a different app drawer (if you're using one).

        • i don't know why i negged the deal. I got it for free (legally) a few years, and haven't used it after trying it once. I will 'un neg' it.

  • +34

FYI Nova was acquired last year by a company that makes money from analyzing user data.

Whether you care or not is of course up to you.

  • +8

It's been sold to a shady data company unfortunately, Branch.io.

But the old versions are still good.

I still use 4.2.2. Solid as a rock for well over 10 years now

    • Hmm thanks good to know. There are degrees of shady, a tiny bit I'm willing to put up with lol.

    • Also how would one install an older version considering clearly the newest one is in the store? Side loading the apk?

  • +6

Can't remember why I stopped using it a few years back after been on Microsoft launcher ever since.

    • Microsoft has a launcher!? Wow, I used to love my old Microsoft interface on my old Nokia, I was not happy when they pulled out. I wonder where that phone went, probably in a draw somewhere…

    • +1

Same - IIRC, Nova was causing some significant lag for a while, and the Microsoft Launcher was free. Very similar features, but MS Launcher is lighter and it's still snappier (I tried Nova again earlier in the year to compare them).

      • Can u share the link of MS launcher plz

      • +1

The price of becoming too feature rich may be the cause of the lag. I find MS launcher to be enough and stable.

      • I've been using MS Launcher on my 2 previous phones. Currently using it on my Samsung. One UI has come a long way, but MS Launcher is a little quicker. Plus, Sticky Notes on the side that syncs to Windows is fantastic.

I'm old skool. I like my app drawer button, and they still have it. One UI has it too, but it's stuck on the right and I can't position it to the middle.

Anyway, three cheers for MS. They've been doing things right for the last… I don't know… 10 years?

    • This has an issue on pixel 8 that stopped me using it. After trying many others I've also settled on Microsoft launcher

  • +8

    Microsoft launcher is best IMO

    • Is it at all similar to their old interface on the old Microsoft based phones?

      • +3

It's free so just install and check it out

        • +3

          It's free

          Free like Windows telemetry 😂

          • @whyisave: That's what I'm concerned about lol. Windows is unusable these days.

    • +1

      I like Niagara

    • Mine too.

  • Been using this for years. It's brilliant, if anything for being able to have an 8 x 5 grid of apps.

  • +2

Been using this past many years, always my default launcher when switching between androids phone.

  • I've been using Nova Launcher since the Note 3

  • +1

It's great, but if you're on Samsung remember you can also use goodlock

    • Any good?

      • Not bad, but One UI can be sluggish compared to others.

  • +1

Been using Nova Launcher for at least 5 years. Never had an issue and does exactly what you need.

  • Anyone that has a Redmi phone used this?

I have a Redmi Note 10 Pro so wondering if this would make it snappy

    • Nova Launcher is light on system resources.
The bigger problem is the Note 10 Pro itself.

I have a Note 10 Pro too, but running custom ROM,
so it's already snappy and quick.

The biggest issue I have is the erratic battery life.
Even with optimizing kernel and other tweaks,
the Note 10 has its own quirks.

Are you using stock MiUI on your Note 10 Pro ?

      • +1

I was with the stock MiUI from 2021, then suddenly updated to the latest MiUI 14 so now I feel like it's less snappy than it used to be.

What custom ROM are you using?

        • +1

          crDroid.

XDA has the ROMs in general,
          but most up to date
or with most variety is all inside TG groups.

          • +1

@whyisave: Thanks mate, I'll check it out - appreciated.

            • +1

@montorola: There are some good AOSP-based ones,
which I have not tried yet, because I cannot just flash the ROM
and have downtime with my phone these days.

I have had good experience with:
              AICP, AOSIP, crDroid

Basically, I look for the most stripped down and tweaked ROM,
and then you can add/remove your own custom launchers.

The issue is that the Note 10 Pro
does not have good, optimized drivers,
so it was originally known to have high battery bleed.

    • Anything xiomi in my experience hasn't worked with this since Android 12. It functions, but you can't use gestures, which makes it useless for most people.

  • mine showing as $0.99. Not that I complain about the price.

  • +1

Had it for years on my Pixel 4a but recently bought the Pixel 8 and this hasn't been working as well. When the keyboard appears it's not moving content up so I can see what I'm typing.

    • +1

Yeap same issue on my Pixel 8 Pro. Saw a few complaints on Reddit stating the same thing so I've gone back to pixel launcher and will try again in the future

  • +2

Bought in 2012 and used on ever phone since (current Pixel 6a) BUT paid $0.25. Bloody ripped off….. 😉

  • The original and still the best. Bargain

  • +1

    Best launcher ever

  • Just got it. Looks great! Thanks

  • I currently use Smart Launcher, don't know if this is any better doesn't look likely.

    FYI - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ginlemon.flowe…

  • Anyone knows how to fix the font size is way too large in the widgets while using nova launcher?

  • +1

The consistency using the same launcher for years makes moving between phones much less annoying.

  • Is there any better alternative for nova? Never had the need to use anything else just want something with similar functionality but different look and feel.

    • You could have a look at KLWP if you want an insane level of customisability. I use that for a custom homescreen and Nova manages the actions and app drawer.

    What does this do?
