I'm not a coffee drinker but couldn't you just pour an espresso shot over ice ?

    • Yep

    • +2

I'm not an expert but apparently there is a difference.

Iced coffee and Iced Espresso are different types of drink due to the way the coffee is brewed.

    • If you already have an espresso machine, yes. The equivalent option would be a pour over filter coffee into a cup of ice.

Why not go further and just use instant? Another gizmo that will never be used

instant coffee is banned in my house

        • +1

Instant coffee is much better than poorly made coffee.

I think it's better than pod coffee too, but that's just my opinion.

          • @TEER3X: You haven't tried the better pod machines yet. Pod may not as good as freshly made from a machine because you can't get freshly baked pods normally. But most pods beat instant coffee instantly.

            • @Jamesx: You're right, when I ground fresh coffee into reusable pods, the coffee was pretty good… I realised how much of a hassle that was so I just bought an espresso machine

          • @TEER3X: pods should be banned

few better signs of a lazy entitled culture

That is what I do, if you leave it in the fridge for a few hours to dissolve and properly chill first it tastes 99% the same as the store stuff as they just use cheap instant too.

        • +2

Or just mix the instant with a small amount of cold water at first to dissolve and top up with more cold water to as little or much as you want.

      Yes.

      Source: me, I do this.

  • what syrups do you guys use??

    • Torani syrups are great. I just use a splash of maple syrup these days.

    This is my recipe…
    1. Add 1 spoon of coffee and 1 spoon of sugar to a coffee cup.
    2. Add just enough boiling water to cover the coffee and sugar.
    3. Swirl around for a few seconds until everything is disolved.
    4. Add ice.
    5. Fill with milk.

This tastes so much better than store bought stuff, and is simple, quick and cheap to make. You can even scale this up to a full 2 or 3 litre bottle of milk. Just add 1 spoon of coffee and sugar for each 500ml. Eg. For a 3-litre bottle of milk make a mixture of 6x coffee and 6x sugar.

    • Do youf fill the cup with ice?

      • Usually around 3 cubes so that it cools the mixture without watering it down too much.

    • If you're going to make litres, might as well just make a real cold brew

Iced Coffee. Sugar to your liking (3 + for me), heaped (pathay) spoon to your like of Nescafe blend 43, mix thoroughly with a little milk or hot water, then once dissolved, pour in 600-700ml of milk or to whatever container size, then drink. Add ice if you want or par freeze mixture with extra milk.

  • I bought an old school filtered coffee machine. I put the coffee into the fridge. When I'm ready to make an ice coffee I pour it over ice & add milk. Saves me about $8 everytime I make one. I usually use the Harris 1kg. It goes on special for $13 something on Amazon.
