    Two comments;

    1. This has the same internals as the ASUS Tuf Gaming AX6000, which is available for less on Amazon (and possibly elsewhere) - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CBT6K4D4

    2. Both these devices are supported by OpenWrt

    • If it has the same internals does that mean you can flash the gt-ax6000 version of the asuswrt-merlin firmware to it?

    • i couldn't find the GT-AX6000 in the compatibility list for OpenWRT, can you link to where you saw it is supported? I'd be interested in running OpenWRT on it myself.

      • It was on the main page here
        https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/
I assumed that means it's supported

        • i think ASUS-wrt and OpenWRT are different though. asus-wrt is their official flavor with asus customisations baked in which aren't available to OpenWRT.

          • @ozb3n: I didn't say it was OpenWRT.
I think we both skimmed eachothers posts and read them wrong in the same way

@Lief: Sorry, I was referring to rygie's comment not yours.

        • Sorry, see my comment below. Your are correct and I was wrong. The GT-AX6000 has a Broadcom (no open source drivers) chipset and supported by MerlinWrt (that only tinkers around the edges of the Asus firmware) but not OpenWrt (that replaces the whole Asus firmware with a modern open source system)

The TX-AX6000 is the hardware that is compatible with the TUF Gaming AX6000.

          https://forum.openwrt.org/t/asus-tuf-gaming-ax6000-support/1…

There is more discussion elsewhere but this is the link I could find on the run.

    • Not sure on the same internals, but not the same performance. It's up there though.

I think TUF has half the ram. I can't be sure right now, but that's what I remember from past research.

I have gt-ax6000 running merlin and it has been rock solid for more then a year. Excellent wifi coverage & speed all around. Stability is incredible. Plus, all the benefits of Asus s/w

      • out of curiosity what kind of speeds are you getting on speedtest.net when running through wifi? i'm on 1000/40 but wifi is capping out at 400-500mbit when testing on my phone. i was hoping the GT would improve wifi performance.

        • I get around 500mbps on an average on wifi.
Below are 2 tests months apart. Since last 2 weeks, having slower speed from the broadband. I am on 900/400 plan

          Test1
          Test2

          • @ace310: Thanks for that! 400 upload, what a treat 👍

    • from what i could find the GT has a broadcom chipset which is closed source so not supported by OpenWRT.

    • Please ignore point 2 of my first comment. The GT-AX6000 is not OpenWrt compatible.

Great timing, finally getting FTTP next week and my current Nighthawk, more than 10 years old, is on it's last legs - devices having no internet connection even though it says connected to wifi.

  • hmm price has gone back up?

  • Imagine spending this much on a dual band router
