  • I ordered one the moment it came back in stock - I've been waiting long enough as well! I wish they had a cheap desoldering station too.

    • +9

just plug this one in backwards….

  • +5

I ordered last time it was on special, after 2-3 months waiting they refunded me. Good luck getting delivery of this one.

    • +2

      Same here.

      • +4

Ditto. 6-weeks of nothing, then a promise (after I contacted them) of delivery in 4-weeks, then another promise of delivery in 4-weeks, at which point I asked for a refund.

That was going to take 4-weeks as well. A threat of getting the refund processed by PayPal turned that into a 5-day wait for my money back.

I would not EVER deal with them again.

        • I've been waiting for 5 months, and cancelled my order 5 days ago … they told me they did not know when they were coming back in stock.

          So frustrating!!

        • from HobbyKing:

"Please kindly note that your order has been cancelled, so we are sorry that we could not active your order. Please be kindly advised to make a new order. Thank for your understanding in advance.

Meanwhile, please kindly note that we have put request to accounting department for refund procedures, it should take maximum 7 working days for administration, please let us know if you have not receive it by then."

So, not refunded yet, and they want me to place a new order …

Negging this deal due to bad cust. service …

  • Great, been looking for something like this for awhile. Thanks!

    • +3

Looks like you'll be waiting "awhile" too lol :P

      • Just received my soldering station, exceptionally fast shipping! Less than 5 working days…

        • isn't 5 days a bit slow for local shipping?

  • I got one - they're actually pretty good for basic stuff. I make audio leads all the time, and they have plenty of heat for mid sized solder. All good :)

  • My dickies soldiering iron finally gave out the other day after many years of faithful service so this has come along at just the right time, cheers op!

  • +1

    bought…although i don't need a soldering station since i have a soldering iron…darn OZB!!!!

  • For 25 bucks, does the nob actually turn anything?

  • +7

I'm still waiting for mine from last time. Useless customer service too. Neg from me

    • when you ordered yours, is that in stock or Back order?

      • +1

It was in stock when I ordered, it then went to backorder

    • If you're talking about the deal from May, it's safe to say you've been scammed :)

    • +2

As it won't let me edit my comment, I'll just mention that I contacted their live chat and supposedly they've notified the warehouse so I should be sent it. I'll possibly remove my neg if and when that happens (though truthfully, if it takes them five months to ship my item, probably six to arrive then I think they deserve a neg)

    • thanks for your feedback

  • +3

Im still waiting on mine s well. I do get lots of spam though!!

  • +1

hmmm yes this reminds me I didn't get mine from when I ordered last time… I should investigate that…

  • Just got mine for $15.94 :-D (I'm driving past the warehouse tomorrow)

    • where is the hobbyking warehouse?

      • Moruya, NSW about 20 mins after Batemans Bay

        • can u pickup directly from there?

        • +1

Self collection in Moruya Australia warehouse $0.00 998276g left.

        • is that a new option?

  • There is a buddy code that may save you some more money. It is not mine.
    http://rc-buddy.com/link-134692-Soldering-Station-with-Adjus…
Apparently it only works for 3 people though, hence the 'may'.

    • +1

That link is the the NON AUS warehouse. So the order will be coming from over seas. And postage might be more expensive?

      • Ah, yes. That is what is happening. Ignore that code.

  • I bought this previously (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71284) when I listed it last time.

It works like a charm. Very quick on the heat. Dial works great and it DOES vary the heat output.
Even used it yesterday on some electrical work… Well worth the money and cheaper than Ebay.
You can also buy new attachments if needed.

For those who didn't get theirs last time, you probably ordered it when it was on backorder/out of stock, that's why you didn't receive it.

Get it now before it goes out of stock again!

    • +2

When mine was ordered, it was "in stock". Was still "in stock" after I ordered.

Their stock levels seem to be fluid in their meaning.

      • Yeah, same here. I'm wondering if they don't update automatically.

  • Warning, when paying with PayPal the amount was converted into USD.
So now my bank is going to hit me with foreign transaction fees.

    • Of what 10c?

    • +1

If you pay by paypal, there is no bank fees as everything was done in paypal, you pay to paypal with AUD and paypal will pay to the seller and therefore there is no any foreign transaction fee

      • -1

No if you use Mastercard and the seller is located overseas they charge you a %age fee even if the payment is in AU$. I know from experience, it was introduced relatively recently.

        • +2

Recently introduced? Its been a few years at least and look at how long the wizard card/28 Degrees card has been around, which is a solution to this charge.

        • Not on mine only since July 1 2012!!

        • I am not sure, but i always pay with my NAB visa and no other fees involve

        • My ANZ Rewards Visa charges this foreign transaction fee on Paypal payments - but only sometimes. I do quite a number of foreign ebay/paypal purchases a year and there doesn't seem to be a set pattern. Sometimes I get charged 3%, sometimes I don't.

        • +1

If I use my VISA (Commonwealth) direct then charges apply, but if it is via Paypal then no charges apply. Therefore I use VISA via Paypal for overseas transactions.

    • -1

Now i can 100% assure you if you pay with paypal there is no foreign transaction fees as paypal will converted it for you into AUD and charged you in local currency. it just like any other local transaction UNLESS you pay with your credit card without paypal. IF the bank charged you, you should call and ask your bank why there is a charged as that is not foreign transaction.

      • Please refer to my earlier comment re Mastercard via Paypal. They DO charge a fee on the Coles Mastercard, I know that for a fact!! 100%

      • I was charged a foreign transaction fee by NAB on my Mastercard after paying through PayPal.

      • My Everyday Rewards Mastercard also charges depedning on when the transaction originated from. But this doesn't matter, just get a 28deg card, it is the best thing ever!

Be Very VERY careful with hobby king as WHEN they short supply you they expect you to do all the work to prove with pictures of the goods pictures of the box and packing and they want you to weigh the package on a scale within 5grams …….and they don't supply any sort of packing slip …..never again further more still waiting on my last order

  • As per 'stylzjhn' above, I jumped on this offer last time and received the goods no problems at all. I ordered four of them which made them even cheaper (two for friends & two for me to put different tips on (which I haven't yet done)) and they're all great! They work perfectly, heat up very quickly and apart from the very sharp & pointy tip they give my $300+ Hakko 936 a run for its money. Definitely only for small stuff like making audio/video/computer cables, repairing PCB level stuff, standard car wiring and other general hobbies… absolutely NOT for big fat power or speaker cables (eg. big current car audio systems).

If they're still in stock I highly recommend this deal as they're great irons even if they were twice the price!

  • What else can one buy for "276 grams" of Free shipping from the Australian Store (that isn't a battery pack)?

  • +4

Ordered one even after hearing the horror stories above. If I don't have it within 45 days, PayPal will give me my money back. I can live without $25 for that long.

  • +1

I've given it a go. For $25 it is worth the risk. Otherwise, I can just get a PayPal refund as above.

  • +1

Yeah, ordered one as well, stock shows as 10+ after my purchase. eBAY is your friend if they can't come up with the goods.

  • Thanks bought one for me and one for the father in law for $46 delivered, good birthday pressie for him

    • If it comes, that is

  • +4

Ordered May 30 2012…still no soldering iron…..yes, I've been patient.
Have sent them a please explain so will be interesting to see what they say!!

  • I ordered the Turnigy AAA/AA LSD batteries when they were on ozbargain on the 9th September, still waiting for my order to arrive …. Might give them another 2 weeks because we know how slow the US mail system is before chasing it up…. So far NOT impressed….

    • +2

US mail system?? you do know this is coming from Hong Kong?

    • I received mine weeks ago. It took perhaps 2-3 weeks to arrive.

  • Is that the same as this one for $15.34 (discounts to $14.xx):
    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idP…

    • Yeah, but postage to AUS is $25.69

  • Would it be good for soldering capacitors on PC motherboards?

    • +1

That really depends on your skill level. Practice on some scrap, first. But yes, if you are talking about larger capacitors (the ones likely to fail or get damaged) then this sort of soldering station is suitable.

    • Soldering is no problem. But removing them and leaving a nice clean hole is the annoying part!

      • +3

True enough, that is the bit which takes a little skill to do quickly. (If you do it too slowly you risk overheating the PCB, if you do this too much you will delaminate the pad which is classed as a really bad failure)

To take the cap out, use a solder sucker, of if you have practiced it enough you can sometimes heat both leads and tap it out. (If you have real money, buy a desolder station.)

Often a final bit of solder is left sealing the hole. You use solder wick to "mop that up". To make the holes cleaner and re-soldering a little easier you can clean the area with isopropyl alcohol (2-propanol) prior to fitting the new cap.

I know this is not related to the "bargain" as such, just trying to help.

        • Oh, that sounds more complicated than I thought! Anyway, might still try some time, rather than just throwing them out…

        • As with most things, it's more complicated in words! You might as well try it since you've got nothing to lose, just experience to gain!

There's a good tutorial on badcaps.net which you should check out. The tutorial links are on the left side.

Still haven't received mine from last time…

  • I cant believe they sold over 400 in 15 hrs. That's Just crazy.

  • I am still waiting for mine since the last time as well. Was it May?

    Worst customer experience ever.

It was probably a lot of back orders taking all the stock.

    • You are now chatting with : Ivy (Customer Service)
Ivy: Thank you for contacting the HobbyKing Support Team. How may I help you?

      You: Ivy

Ivy: If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact support via live-chat or email at [email protected]. Again, thank you for contacting HobbyKing and have a great day!

      • +1

Do you reckon they are real people on the other side or just automated responses?

        • They are real only restricted in what they can do.
To my understanding, apart from ask questions and offer meaningless platitudes, helpful advice on how to avoid the issue next time and also how to wait patiently without having to keep thinking about it, nothing ……..

          Anyway

I ordered mine in May and just got it.
Nice Iron well worth the $ but not the angst!!!!!!

          PS
The customer service were "nice" told me how you can add a reminder so you get an email when it's back in stock so you don't have to keep wondering.
The system worked and I got a reminder.
Also warned against ordering from Australian warehouse.
Everything but resolve my issue which was waiting for 5 months to receive something which was "in stock" when I ordered it……
          LOL

  • Stock level is saying -6, I think it's sold out. Bugger!

  • i got mine from last time, it was aus stock with aus plug

  • +3

I'm going to have to neg this one. After waiting three months for the last one, and numerous emails saying they'd be in-stock by end of that month, I did finally manage to get a refund

    • -1

well if you backorder you should be ready to wait. Remember this gets made in HK then put on a ship and shipped to AU. and with over 150 backorders it obviously takes time.

      • +3

Yeah so basically your saying if you get it 1 year later it's understandable?

No one back ordered to begin with but even if they did more than a few months is too long for a backorder, by that time the company should cancel the order

  • Bought one late lastnight and already received order shipped email!

    • Grrr. Last In, First Out processing is not fair.

      • Seems that way, what an awesome system if it's true…

      • Received an order shipped email this morning.

    • I ordered at 9pm last night and received an "order shipped" email at 2pm this afternoon. So far so good.

  • Giving this one a shot. If it isn't delivered, I can live with a refund.

  • +2

Just got mine, direct pickup from the warehouse. Unit looks good, the lady commented that they had alot of orders for these.
For anyone else who takes the pickup option, the street numbers are all over the place, worst I've seen in a long time. The warehouse is across the road from the take-away shop in the industrial estate. (took me 20 mins to find the warehouse, and people who work in the street don't even know where it is :-)

    • how many people actually work there? seems like there will only be a lot of work on days they get stock in.

      • At least 2 people, maybe 3 total. The lady I talked to was very friendy, and nice. It's not a tiny warehouse, and it appears they move a fair bit, but then again some of those R.C plane boxes are quite big so it wouldn't take too much to break even let alone profit form not shipping individually from china.

        • I don't suppose there's a phone number on the paperwork you received, I've found two 02 phone numbers for this mob, neither of which work anymore.

        • Nah, sorry mate. It just has address, opening hours and a link to the 24hour support centre

  • I got the email alert that it's back in Stock and ordered right away. Silly me for not remembering to wait on the page, so ended up paying almost a dollar more. :(

anyway just reporting that I seem to have gotten lucky as I just Received confirmation today that my product was shipped.

    • Don't get your hopes up
I had that same email 5 months ago and it was never shipped, only back ordered.
I also haven't had that email again when th eitem was in stock and now they are still accepting orders but all stock apparently is gone.

See my earlier post. I aren't holding my breath………

      • Just wanted to update that I must have been one of the lucky ones. Item arrived today.

        • Mine finally arrived 5 minutes ago.
          LOL
I needed to solder something yesterday for the first time in 6 months
          True.
          Timing!!!!!!!!!!
          rotf

  • Just got mine delivered. I only purchased on Tuesday night.
Cant wait to try it out tonight

  • Put my order through earlier today for 4 of these when stock level went back up to 10. Fingers crossed.

  • Out of stock

  • Received confirmation with tracking no item has been shipped. I think everyone ordered when the item in stock will be received it in no time :)
