    • As usual stock photos never do a watch justice.

For the majority of watches (especially cheaper models), it's either a case of the watch looks better in-person than it does in photos/videos or the watch looks better in photos/videos than it does in-person.

There's a smaller percentage of exceptions to this rule that look pretty much true to themselves either in the metal or on photos/videos.

Yeah you can't get an appreciation of most watches from a simple front on view. Always worth watching several YouTube videos and reviews.

        • A great case in point: the Casio Edifice EFR-539D-1A2V. It looks amazingly high-quality in photos and seems to punch way above its price bracket but in-person it actually looks and feels like something you picked up for $10 dollars in Bali. A thoroughly disappointing watch.

          • @Miami Mall Alien: Agree mate that looks pretty sweet haha.
I think if watches are too lightweight they feel cheap, same goes for those rattly cheap SEIKO bracelets with press clasps.

I had a Seiko snkl23 which is highly praised for the dial and is a stunner with doephine hands, but in real life it's quite a small lightweight watch, with a cheap bracelet hardlex and old movement. Would have been fun to upgraded all but waste of money for an old watch.

          • @Miami Mall Alien: I've found all of the Edifice watches that I've personally handled like that.
            Definite lobby syndrome!

            • @Astronaut Joe: I would assume the Oceanus are a lot better, especially the glass and dials. Still too expensive for what they are, need w hybrid of the 100 and 200 as both have their moans and nigglets

              • @G-rig: I wouuld assume the Oceanuseses are in a completely different class, but I've never held one in my hands yet.

                • @Astronaut Joe: Same mate, just going off some YouTube videos. When i see import only and $500+ it gets put in the too hard basket.

I’ve been eyeing off that strap for a different watch

It's not cheap at $64.95. Do you know anywhere cheaper for similar?

          https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005003818707173.html?spm=a2g…

Having bought a ton of straps from a all over the places, most strap places just resell rebranded stuff from Ali

          Exceptions from my experience:
          - OEM straps and bracelets (although the really nice leather comes from Camille fournet)
          - for rubber straps Everest, RubberB and crafter blue are all excellent, esp. for rubber straps designed to be bespoke to a case (former two are better but the crafter is best BFYB)
          - Etsy custom made (but you really need to know how to sort out from actual hand made vs resold generic)
          - some place in Sydney (home business in Dulwich hill) does excellent bespoke leather goods but he is expensive and for the price I’d rather go to one of the above options for leather straps

I’ve got that Ali strap on order and it’s going on a speedy, will let you know what it’s like when I get it

@Gunnar: Will be watching for an update here as am curious, thanks (:

            • @toastpaint: They’re good! Great quality rubber. The sides of the strap are a bit thick and it sits in a boxy way on the wrist. Not sure if this will curve over time but it’s a high quality strap

Juelong is an aliexpress seller who manufacturers straps (mostly FKM) for many other brands: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/4553075?spm=a2g0o.order_lis…

Found it in a forum a couple years ago and have bought many times. Great price/performance.

    • I liked it before I saw that pic. If I wasn't broke I'd pick it up in a heart beat.

It was said previously that the $20 welcome discount applied to orders $200+.
Just FYI and if it's been changed could someone chime in pls?

    • Thanks, you are correct.

  • I have the yellow version and it's an awesome watch. I'll probably grab one of these too. They look so good when you see them in person.

  • is this store selling genuine watches? and how is the return policy if anyone knows.

is this store selling genuine watches?

      Dude it's OzBargain.

Stores selling fake watches wouldn't last 15 minutes on here before being perma-banned.

and how is the return policy if anyone knows.

Maybe try clicking on the link on their site that says Returns.

      • -1

there have been scams posted on ozb in the past, e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/647532

        • +1

That obviously wasn't an example of counterfeit items being sold through that store, that was a case of somebody hacking a website and stealing customer credit card details which could happen to any online store and doesn't at all reflect on that vendor's trustworthiness nor whether their products are genuine.

Watch Depot is an offshoot of Shiels.

    • thanks all for confirming the website is a good to go.

  • Crap. Went to go checkout, signed up and now I can't use code because total is $1 below the minimum. Do/can I save it for next time? Email didn't show an expiry date. I think last time you or @rosebank said the next cheapest thing was like a $19 childrens watch I won't be able to even regift..

I just upgraded to express shipping for $4 more to tip it over the $200 mark so I paid $202.95 total. 😊 Shame it's 4 - 8 days dispatch time. Can wait for that poppin' teal!

Hey that was a good idea. Have you got the watch yet? Please post a wrist shot.

          • +1

@WatchNerd: Yeah, it shipped out on the 27th. Can't remember when it turned up but I think it was pre-NY, probably the 30th.

Haven't opened it yet though.. 😅 I'll try and get one to you this afternoon. I'm also days behind on getting car photos for @easternculture.. 😪
