  • Will Samsung honor the warranty if it's bought from the US?

    • +3

      Samsung Australia, No.
      Amazon US, yes…

      • Why won’t Samsung Aus honor the warranty? Isn’t it world wide?

          • +3

@mikeoxlarge: I didn't neg you, but Apple warranty isn't world wide. Apple AU cannot properly support iPhones purchased from another country (Apple AU doesn't stock other country's iPhone models to do warranty). If the iPhone purchased from another country happened to be the same exact model as AU, Apple AU might do it.

There are also Apple stores in other countries which won't do the same type of warranty services as Australia. Not every country in the world allows 14 days no question asked warranty service. In fact, when I was overseas a few years ago, there were Apple stores which clearly stated certain products do not have change of mind return and some products don't get any warranty at all there (i.e. cables).

            • @netsurfer: Guessin it's a YMMV thing .. I've been having my (various) iPhones from the US and Japan serviced in Australia (Syd and Melb) over the years (pre and post Covid).

Only difference is that they could not do an "immediate" like for like swap out like my Australian models.
              * In Sydney, I had to leave the phone and wait 24 hours for the main store to ship out the "like" product to the store I went to for warranty servicing.
              * In Melbourne, I had leave the phone and wait 3 days for the store to ship the phone somewhere for a warranty battery service (possibly Sydney?).

Old case .. I've had my US iPhone serviced in Japan (while on holiday) while I waited about 2.5 hours.

Can't speak for countries other than the mentioned 3 and no experience with Mac products.

@lamb: I would say iPhones are more widely accepted, but not worldwide, that's the kind of premium service to be expected.

              • @lamb: When I wanted my Apple world travel adapter kit plugs replaced (due to Apple doing a recall on some of the plugs), my nearest Apple store was only willing to replace 1 plug (the AU one) for me. That Apple store won't do the replacement service of the other plugs for me. Instead, the store insisted that I have to contact Apple Support via telephone and go through that.

In some countries, you don't get 1 year warranty for Apple lightning cables (actually, you get zero warranty for lightning cables there, the staff even remind you before you buy). Apple Hong Kong doesn't offer change of mind return (AU laws allow 14 days). For Apple AU, if the connector has a hairline crack, it is not covered under warranty. Also, some Apple store staff here don't like to replace faulty lightning cables and make a big deal out of it, whereas some staff are quite helpful and make the process pain free.

        • Most SSD warranties aren't world wide. It's been like that for storage devices (including HDDs) and most PC parts.

Warranty departments cost money to run and Samsung AU RMA have limited stock to do the RMA. They just won't do warranty service for non AU stock items.

      • Samsung Australia: No

Amazon AU will manage the after sales support even if the seller is Amazon US.

If purchased directly from Amazon US (not through Amazon AU), the buyer will need to deal with Amazon US directly.

  • I think it's a good price OP - I mentioned it in the 980 pro thread. I'd definitely rather this one and get an aftermarket heatsink.

    • +1

Why would you rather that? What's the NVME warranty in regards to using aftermarket heatsink?

Not long ago I bought this with a heatsink directly from Samsung australia for $230ish.

      • +2

Mainly because I have my eye on this PS5 heatsink instead - https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B096K4WKV9/ref=ox_sc_sa…
No effect on warranty of the drive to use with a 3rd party heatsink

        • +1

Cool! yeah even the stock Samsung heatsink was a pain for my setup, I had to source some screws online, ran it a few days without screwing it in lol

And I also found out it has a red slow blinking LED while in use.

          • @Tbargain12: You can change the LED to another colour with the Magician software but I am not sure if it will save the colour setting if you put it in a PS5, I never tried.

            • @FrugalNotStingy: Oh good, I thought the magician software might do the trick, I'll try it since I'm on PC.

        • I bought this same SSD for my PS5, but couldn't read anywhere that it recommends adding a heatsink to it? Should I?

          • +2

@starspawn: Sony states that if you install any SSD in their console you must add a heat sink… its all over youtube in how to install videos ext

          • +2

@starspawn: you should add a heatsink to it.

    • is a motherboard heatsink good enough? my ds3h has a m.2 thermal shield but idk if that does enough

  • might be cheaper boxing day sales ?

    • Very doubtful

    • Fingers crossed now..'cause I didn't jump on this.

      • yeah i didn't buy either since im also hoping that its cheaper during boxing day
