I bought 2 last week and they worked so great with the Twinkly app. LED are very bright. Unfortunately they are sold out in NSW, only in VIC now. Otherwise, I would grab more for my garden.

Great price, they're currently over $200 online.

These lights are smart - you can use the app to map their position in a 3d space and therefore create decent 3d lighting effects. Wrap a Christmas tree up in enough of these (including some through the middle areas of it) and you can have animations where lights pass up and down the tree as well as passing through the middle to travel from side to side.

  • Is this specific model IP rated for outdoors?

    • +2

No I don't think so. Many ppl cover the controller and PowerPoint in a box or bag. Really for indoors I guess but many ppl use them outdoors for a short time. Some ppl I've read have had the set up outside for 2+ years and claim no issues.

    • Zoom on the photo under “Alexa” it clearly says both indoor and outdoor. But no specific ip rating on the box. I have mine outside like OP said all connections and controller inside weatherproof box.

  • Anyone know if the music adaptor works with these as well?

    • +1

      Search for Twinkly Music Dongle

    • +1

      Yes it does.

  • For anyone who bought this last week, you could request refund from return counter as “price adjustment”. No need to return the product.

    • This is only for purchases made online, right?
If I bought it in the warehouse, they won't adjust it?

For purchases made online at costco.com.au
      https://www.costco.com.au/member-care/refunds-and-return/pri…

      • I asked and no adjustment as it's a line through as opposed to a yellow ticket. I guess when Costco uses pricing ending in .97 or .94 it's no price guarantee. That's what the lady said instore.

Then buy the same amount as you purchased before on higher price. Then go directly to return counter and request refund. There is no point to refuse the price adjustment, unless it’s already sold out.

EDIT: here is the policy from costco website:https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/628/~/price-adjustment---costco.com-orders.

I cannot see any exclusion from there. So if they refused to do the adjustment, better to call the manager, instead of just walking away.

@brooksong: That's the Costco US policy.

  • Has anyone seen this in Epping Melbourne store?

    • Was there last week trying to find them but no luck.

I have a set of the twinkly RGB 600 lights (it doesn't say Lumations on the box but appears top be the same product) on my tree right now.

    Pros:
    * The lights look really nice - good diffusion, quite bright, construction feels solid
    * App lets you schedule on/off times, control from out of home, change colours and patterns etc quite simply
    * Cool party trick

    Cons:
    * The design function is really poor. The user experience sucks - you can copy the RGB code of a colour, but you can't paste it anywhere so if you're trying to make things match there is lots of slider fiddling to try and get it right. There are a few built in animations but they are not easy to customise at all.
    * 3d mapping experience is really average. I spent ages on it and eventually got it to be reasonable, but it looks a complete mess in the app. Thankfully for lights it can't map it figures it out based on surrounding lights it can map, but it wasn't a straghtforward experience.
    * RGB makes white based on all 3 colours being lit, as opposed to their RGBW lights which have a white LED that goes different warmth white effects. This means when you're trying to make twinkling warm white colours you can get weird things going on as the lights go from off to low brightness where reds and other colours come through.
    * It loses sync with Alexa fairly regularly and the skill in Alexa needs to be reset. I've going to give up on that and hopefully find a way to integrate it into HomeAssistant, but was convenient previously having a voice assistant able to turn it on and off for you.
    * The built in effects and library are pretty meh.

    Summary:
Overall they are good looking lights, but the experience isn't polished and they have caused me a lot of frustration. Once they're set up the way you want it's relatively smooth sailing, but getting it set up, or deciding you want something different means a lot of annoying work. Designing new light effects with any kind of animation is really difficult - we wanted a simple warm white twinkling effect and the best way I was ultimately able to do it was by modifying one of the built in effects and change the colours. To get a good amount of lights going I had to set up 6 colours all the same, and because you can't input the RGB codes it was probably 15-20 minutes of adding colours and moving slides around on a phone screen to get them to all match up. I'm happy with them (although wish I got the RGBW ones), but did want to punch the wall on multiple occasions

Their app experience leaves much left to be desired.

The mapping process is a bit sensitive and you have to be super careful. Especially if you are doing advanced mapping. And you have to restart the mapping if you mess up mid way. It took me 3-4 attempts before I could do one.

    • That's really disappointing. They've had years to iron this stuff out. I would have expected a better experience considering the premium price

  • Very nice, can anyone buy one for me and post it to me please?~~.
    Really want it.

  • +2

Just got here now. All gone.

    • Thanks for the info. Was considering visiting Docklands.

  • +2

Can confirm Ringwood still got them at $67.

    • -1

Thanks for that. Was considering popping over… I've been fascinated with Twinkly lights for some time, but not at their normal prices. $50 is about my level of going "I'll give them a go"… so if they're still $67 I'll leave them

  • If anyone can get them at Ringwood. I would take 2 sets. pM me please.

  • Any stock in Perth WA

  • Grabbed one, thanks OP. 5 left in moorabbin,Vic (3.30pm)

  • +1

About 15 left at Ringwood just now at $69 - in the middle near the Christmas tree.
    I bought a set in 2021 (for a lot more than &69).
Love them and was honestly considering getting an extra set but was hesitant because of the cost. Picked up another 2 thanks OP!

  • All gone at Ringwood
