  the worst thing about this machine is you feel extra sad when you are out and about and pay nearly $6 for an average coffee, when you can make a great one for less than a third of the cost at home with this.

    Yeah I have this machine and just use Aldi dark roast. The coffee I get from this is of a very high standard as I never have to add any sugar to combat any bad taste.

      Aldi beans seem to have good reputation out there. One of the cheapest in the market too.

      What is difference between aldi dark and medium roast?

        I found the dark more intense and better for me with milk. If you have without milk you may prefer the more subtle flavours of the medium roast.

          @shertiger: I'm probably missing something but when I've looked at the coffee section in Aldi (not a regular shopper there), the medium roast ($14.99) seems to be pure Arabica beans and the dark roast ($11.99) seems to be Robusta.

          I couldn't find medium roast Robusta or vice versa, could someone who is better informed comment please?

            @I like bargains: My semi and self educated response… :)

            Robusta is generally seen as less desirable. Sweeter, subtle and complex flavours are possible but supposedly more difficult with it (I'm not a roaster tho).

            Robusta is also able to roast longer (darker) because of its higher density. So it is generally used to go darker and add more oomph - especially in blends.

            People say it has more caffeine but I think that is debatable.

        No thats the US site, the ones in this article https://kitchen.nine.com.au/latest/aldi-beats-supermarket-ri…. For me though Aldi coffee is meh, one dimensional tasting. People love it because its cheap

          @Snowy83: I agree. I would also say the same about any commodity/supermarket beans. Try a bag of specialty beans or blends to compare - from the likes of Sample Coffee, Brightside, Monastery, Market Lane etc. They will be more expensive but not terribly so. Trouble is if, like me, you like it better its hard to go back :)
