    Super expensive

    • Yes, but cheapest if you're after fixed rate. Variable is a trap.

      • Is there somewhere we can look at historical prices for electricity plans? How often does the variable rate get raised?

        • Not that I know of. I just use this website to compare plans:
          https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/plans/results

          • @mirovich: I've come across that. I was trying to compare fixed to variable. If they only increase the variable every 6 months for example it might be cheaper than the fixed option.

            • @Noppy: I think most providers review the rates every 6 months or 1 year but I have 0 trust in them, this is why I just fix for piece of mind.

        • +3

My variable plan with GloBird energy is going up about 40% next month! I think they said it's an once a year increase (I obviously will be moving)

          • @hen dawg: I jumped from Globird to Nectr (im in QLD) Nectr was estimated at $20 more expensive but is 100% carbon offset and prices locked for 12 months. Also next to no additional fees didnt even have a late payment fee

    • i pay 60cents-$1 kwh, that's super expensive.

      • That's crazy. I'm paying 27c per kwh and 66c daily

        • which company?

          • @sunnyc: Origin. I'm in NSW by the way

"Clean" - if only they told the truth

      Yea bruh, clean coal.

    • Why don't you show us the truth?

    Victoria rates inner Melb
    All day usage 20.79 c/kWh
    Supply 1.01135 c/day

I am on 21 c/kWh with Nectr fixed until July in QLD

Reading the rates above I better get solar+battery soon

    • I'm on the same, be interested to see what the new rates they will offer are. 92c supply charge is beginning to look cheap

    • Solar is generally great, batteries are generally not worth it for most people

  • All Day Usage 35.67 c/kWh
    Supply Charge 180.87 c/day

    Not the best for me

    • That’s insane. Where’re you located?

      • A small town in NSW.
Unfortunately 35.67 c/kWh is close to the cheapest for me.
        I was paying 18 c/kWh before I moved here :(

        • $1.80 a day for supply’s more what set my head spinning

          • @0jay: Yeah… its 40c a day more than my other choices.
            So terrible.
The daily supply cost is about half my bill even at $1.40

    • Exactly the same rate for me. Nectr isn't even offering me TOU plan. Regional sucks :(

      What's your other provider?

      • +1

I'm with globird but switching to origin because they have the lowest rates for me in 2024 and I managed to sign up to their family & friends deal + get $150 credit https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/791503

        • Yeah that's pretty cheap !

Most providers seem to be rising their rates after Jan24 though so I'm a bit hesitant to jump ship from Red Energy to the variable plan :/

          • +1

@paradoxez: pretty sure origin does their price change in june/july.

  • In vic some inner suburbs $0.86 supply
    Peak 31.2
    Off peak 25.1

  • All Day Usage 28.00 c/kWh (exclude GST)
    Supply Charge 130.00 c/day
Solar Export All Day Usage (GST exempt) 7.00 c/kWh
Solar Export Supply Charge 0 c/day

Currently with GloBird who pulled a bait and switch on me right after signing up lol

Was on circa $0.86/day supply charge | $0.27/kWh All day usage - now going up to c $1/day supply charge | $0.38/kWh all day usage.

Need to find another plan. Living in an apartment so I don’t think we have a smart meter and can’t take advantage of variable rates. Will look into Nectr unless anybody can suggest another deal?

    • You and me both. https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/plans/results is your best choice for comparison

      • Anyway to specify 6mths+ fixed rate filter? I couldn't find that anywhere and the listed plans are from before the price change in Jan 2024.

        So not that useful :(

    • This is why fixed rate plans are recommended (at least during periods where prices are likely to rise), because if you time things wrong then you might end up with a new variable rate straight after you sign up.

Of course, fixed rate plans aren't fixed forever but at least you typically get a year on those prices.

I've been with Globird for a couple of years now and they've been great, but I got an email a couple of weeks ago that they were bumping my plan up:
      Daily charge: 1.24
      Peak usage: 0.44
      Off peak usage: 0.30
      Shoulder usage: 0.30
      Solar feed in: 0.04

Time to jump ship I reckon. This deal beats them across the park

      All Day Usage 28.4 c/kWh
      Supply Charge 111.54 c/day
Solar Export All Day Usage (GST exempt) 3.85 c/kWh

Yikes that’s expensive. Went from Powershop to Nectr a few months back on 12 month locked in rates (Metro VIC, Jemena).

    All day rate: 0.2299c/kwh
    Daily supply charge: 88c/day

Very happy with them. Their app is a bit hit and miss though.

State in title please. Electricity prices vary wildly from state to state. For example, I pay less than half per kwh in Victoria, even now, than I ever did when I lived in South Australia (ten years ago). 30+c per kwh would be a pretty crap deal in Victoria, even now (I am with Nectr paying 22.9c per kwh, 80c per day supply charge, and netting a paltry 4.9c FIT).

    • Prices in South Australia are heading to 50 cents a kWh. Also my gas has almost tripled in 3’years. Use to pay under 2 cents per megajoule and rates are over 5 now. So much for Labor government telling us they would get energy prices under control.

Prices without states, or even locality within states, is utterly pointless as a reference.

Suggest update post as looks like there is a $50 sign up credit promo running until 20/12: https://nectr.com.au/terms-and-conditions/50-dollar-sign-up-…

    • Good call, I got this referral signup bonus.

Bonus kicks in after first month of service.

  • Wow, postcode 2640 - supply charge of 105.61c/day.
As soon as enter an actual address within postcode 2640, daily supply charge jumps to 187.26c/day. Expensive af.

  • Western Sydney
    All day rate: 0.2387c/kwh
    Daily supply charge: 0.825c/day
"Nectr Hive Saver. Your plan has fixed rates until 30th June 2024."
    Don't have solar.

  • Not bad at all, inner north, Melbourne. Peak time is 3pm to 8pm daily. Off peak applies all other times for my tariff.

    Electricity rates
    Peak Usage 31 c/kWh
    Supply Charge 90.33 c/day
    Off Peak Usage 21.4 c/kWh

  • Take off about 5c/KWh for GreenPower and it's not terrible compared to others.

  • Nectr are scammers, there's plenty of mentions here about them not honouring referral signup bonuses, myself included. I rang to ask why it hadn't been credited and they claimed it was because the referrer didn't have an active account…despite being able to generate a referral link.

  • anyone on Nectr Hive Saver rates been offered a new deal at the end of the 12 months?
