  • Good rates, only 4.9c FIT in Vic it seems

    • Those in Vic with new systems are lucky now to even be approved for any FIT.

      • Is it common now to not be approved any FIT vic?

I think I’ve heard some households being capped at some kWh (maybe 5-10kwh) per day FiT

        • Frequent yes, not common.
With some providers like AMBER your FIT can be negative and the frequency of Negative FIT is increasing. Yes you have to pay up to a $1 per kwh exported to the grid, but it's typically much lower.

          • @UltimateAI: ANd why would someone pay to export the power? Won't you just opt out of feeding in?

            • @cloudy: With MOST solar systems there isn't a magic switch you can run home and turn off\disable export. Disconnecting a typical not battery system from the grid will also stop you from consuming your own solar, as the inverter goes offline.

Some energy storage systems, like Tesla have feeds to wholesale energy prices and can use this to their advantage, but most solar owners can't.

I just see a lot of people on say Origin\AGL\Sumo, switch to Amber and get a bit of a shock.

Sure you could pay a sparky to do something, but out of the box it's just something people need to be aware of.

              • @UltimateAI: I'd ove to see the sparkies face when you tell them you would like to setup x random inverter to follow the wholesale network rate (live) and cease exporting when the rate is negative.

Sounds like something Amber should have sorted.

                • @tunzafun001: I read his reply as stopping all export not just when the wholesale price is negative.
Either way absolutely agree with your point!

                • @tunzafun001: @tunzafun001 ALL sparkies have left the chat…. :)

Can you sign up again if you already signed up in June ? The new rates are cheaper than the June sign up

    • +2

Yes you can, it should update your prices instantly.

    • +2

I just did. No lock-in contract so should be all good.

I signed up for the June offer and they raised the price in July.

      • Do you mean that you signed up to this same offer in June, and the price went up in July, and by you signing up to this same offer again now you're still getting a better rate than the increased July rate?

        • +1

          Yep. Exactly right.

        • I assumed all these commenters above signed up to the family and friends deal in June but it looks like they signed up to this. If you signed up to family and friends deal in June then the rate is the same.

          • +1

@Slo20: I thought the one in june was 11% off and this one is 12% off?

            • @ATTS: There was a deal submitted on here in June that got taken down by mods pretty quickly as I believe an employee was sharing their unique family and friends link. It was also later posted on reddit but I can’t find that thread either. I’ve checked my current rate against this deal and everything is identical.

      • Did you get to keep the $150 credit though?

        • I already had it applied to a bill, so yes.

          • @Aureus: Oh thanks

Mine is pending credit for next bill thats why i ask

  • -6

    DUPE

  • Thanks just signed up. Cheaper than AGL in Vic.

    • -8

It was even cheaper if you joined a month ago…

  • +2

Note that this is VARIABLE, not fixed

"Rates: Variable = A variable rate means what you pay for energy could go up or down. Origin may change prices from time to time"

    • what you pay for energy could go up or down

      and ???

    • +6

They never go down with the exception of the solar feed in tariff.

      • +1

        Especially in Vic :(

        • 11c FIT with Simply Energy and $200 welcome credit. Good deal for summer and then move to another provider with cheaper rates in Winter.

      • +1

Electricity rates just went down in the ACT

      • They never go down

My daily supply charge cost did.

Last month it was 86.020, now it is 85.298

      • It's like a mini share market for energy. Up and down. War = up.

  • +4

Man, I'm so jealous of everyone's electricity pricing. I'm currently looking at switching providers, and for me, it's going to be a daily supply charge of 120.6c/day and a general use cost of 28.84c/kWh. This is actually cheaper than the average for the list of providers I have, and there are people here getting 70-80c daily charge and general use of <20c/kWh. Looks like I'm in the wrong place!

    • +1

don't know where people are paying less than 20c/kWh….I haven't had that sort of rate for MANY years…is this electricity and what providers and where are they getting this low deal? My usage rate is over 33c/kWh even with this 12% off deal (but Endeavour energy is always more expensive in NSW compared to many other providers)

      • +1

Vics got a few retailers on close to 20c/kWh depending where you live. Need to live in the right state ;)

        • +1

ok, right….crap deals in NSW atm…esp western Sydney through Endeavour….the people closer to the CBD get better rates than us, so it sucks

          • @souths123: makes sense considering the inefficiencies and increased costs with lower density infrastructure

        • Anyone on Ausnet as the network owner generally gets screwed in Victoria - https://www.esc.vic.gov.au/electricity-and-gas/prices-tariff… - although for small business they're cheaper.

Why exactly their rates are allowed to be so different to everyone else is beyond me. I moved about 5km and suddenly my price went up a lot, glad the first thing I did in the new house was put solar on the roof.

          • @freefall101: Yeah I am in an Ausnet area also. I don't understand how they are allowed to charge so much more than every other distributor.

    • +1

Still way better then here in SA…

      Switched to Globird today…

      Origin:

      Daily Supply
      103.235 c/day

      General Usage 0-11
      44.550 c/kWh

      General Usage 11+
      48.070 c/kWh

      Globird:

      Daily Charge
      $/Day 0.99000

      Anytime Usage - First 30 kWh/Day#
      $/kWh 0.34540

      Anytime Usage - Balance
      $/kWh 0.36850

      • how did you get such an offer with globird? what I am seeing are as follows:

        Daily Charge
        1.03499

        Anytime Usage - First 20 kWh/Day#
        0.42360

        Anytime Usage - Balance
        0.44921

        • Yeah, i had a look again a few days ago on their site, as I am still in the process of change over to them. They have around the same pricing now… But I called them as i got a text saying the changeover failed or something.

They didnt know why, as there wasnt any comment in their attempt in their system and my meter is just on the side of the house, not behind any gate or fence.

Anyway, while I was on the phone I asked them about the pricing. They said it will stay the same as what I was quoted before, so I'm still going to swap to them.

          • +1

@Woody982: Just watch out, was with them a couple years back and they started throwing prices up pretty high, out of cycle increases yet still offered lower rates to new customers…till a few months pass I guess

            • @buckster: They say in their PDS they do it annually in January. Which they did, however I rang them to see if they can do better and they beat everyone else again…

So I'll stick with them until they aren't a better price than everywhere else for us!

            • +1

@buckster: Agree Globird def a bit dodge. With them atm (but huge price increase has me moving).

More interestingly, randa talked to someone who had worked at globird and mentioned that when I tried to search my address or nmi to check the pricing new customers would get it didn't work.
They said yeah, they broke that on their website for existing customers on purpose. Lolz

  • +2

Thanks OP, existing customer. Switched online using link.

    • Have your new rates shown up in your account yet?

      • +1

Yes. Received email confirmation also with new contract/agreement documents stating discounted rates.

  • +2

Tango seems to be significantly cheaper than this offer for me in NSW, have they raised their rates yet or are they still expecting one? (Variable rate only in NSW)

    Supply 83.13c vs 66c
Usage (flat rate) 31.93c/kWh vs 26.125c/kWh

    • +2

Tango seems to be significantly cheaper than this offer for me in NSW

In VIC, Tango is about 30% more than this Origin offer for me…

      • JV, any recommendations for a service provider in Vic?
        Cheers.

        • +5

I'm using this deal from Origin…

          Can't really find much cheaper…

        • +1

Check out ovo energy or nectr. I work in the industry

          • @TheFIREnanceGuy: Ovo have a really good energy score from Choice Magazine, too. I've been thinking of transferring to them.

            • +1

@saveye: Their rates are higher for me and I didn’t like having to prepay a monthly amount regardless of the bill.

              • @ozbmm: I'm sure Brookside are extremely happy with Origin stating that they will make greater profits to sweeten the takeover deal. I've been reading about it for the last year in the AFR, and it spilled over to the other news sites about a month ago.

I'm with Origin on a fixed plan, there is no way that I will stay with them after that's ended.

          • @TheFIREnanceGuy: Thanks for this. I am in Vic and need to change too.

  • +3

50c/kWh peak rate in SA :'(

    • All those cheap renewables paying divvies 😁

      • +1

It's all the royalties going to Elon…😁

        • +3

Lee Kaching in China actually gets all the coin from SA. The dudes name literally sounds like printing money!

Paid my first bill in 3 yrs last month…need to hand back my Ozb badge.
Now moved 3 times in the 6 weeks since.

      • +1

And to divs for Chinese grid operators in Vic

    • And only 6c feed in.

Since they r on the same grid as us why is ours so much more

  • Switched over from current Origin rates to Controlled Load 1 Usage 16.802 cents per kWh, General Usage 31.921 cents per kWh, Daily Supply 83.130 cents per day in SW Sydney

    • From from Origin to where?

  • Signed up from Energy Australia marginally cheaper on daily rates

  • +1

    Expensive for NSW metro

    • who are you with for better rates?

      • +3

Not sure who they are with but did a quick comparison when I saw this deal and Tango and Ovo are cheaper by a large margin for me in NSW.

No idea if they still have pending price rises too though.

        • +5

I also thought that Tango and Ovo were going to be cheaper. I even considered Globird. However, all these are bait and switch prices. You get a low price when you compare with your postcode, NMI and other details. Once you actually go to sign up and enter the same NMI or the address, you get completely different rates and there are no options to select the cheaper plans. The names of the plans are the same! :-\

Ovo One Plan pricing: quoted price -> actual price at sign up
          Daily charge: 91.30 -> 107.80
          Peak usage: 29.04 -> 32.05
          Controlled load: 15.29 -> 15.29

Globird Boost pricing: quoted price -> actual price at sign up
          Daily charge: 78.10 -> 94.60
          Peak usage: 29.15 -> 42.02
          Controlled load: 26.29 -> 26.29

In the case of Tango, I could not even continue the sign up process and got a message to call them on the phone! Like they were going to answer at ten to midnight…

The dodgiest part of this was that these prices, that you are agreeing to during sign up, are hidden behind "Show details" links that you have to click to reveal the figures. This seems to be a common practice with almost all retailers.

          • @peteru: Not my experience with Globird… I have (after on-time payment discounts)
            Daily Charge: 74.69
            Anytime usage (first 20 kw/h): 29.022
            Anytime usage balance: 31.583

      • +2

AGL, currently on 26c flat . Came with $100 rebate . Origin coming in at 31c

      • best rate I can find in 2207 is red Energy

  • How are you getting 10c solar feed in? I put my address in and only got 4.9c

    • +1

      depends on your address.

    • Same here

Looks like Origin Solar Boost has went from 10c to 12c solar feed in though

      • +2

I'm getting 12c now. But they jacked up the usage from 24c kw/h to 31c kw/h

        • Always a catch from the suppliers to offset the benefits you are getting…

  • +2

Only 5c FIT in Qld though.

    • 4c for me in qld

  • thanks, just renewed with this deal….better than the current 8% discount we are getting with them now.

  • +3

Just had a look now and everything is worse with Origin in North Brisbane compared to the deal I signed up for with Nectr a few weeks ago.

    Origin Daily 120.60 / Nectr .99

    Origin General 28.84 / Nectr 23.98

    Origin Controlled Load 2 21.02 / Nectr 18.70

    • +1

I would never sign up with Nectr. They do a credit check and deny applications for no reason. Trying to get a clear unscripted answer from their overseas call centre staff is near impossible.

Also reports of price increasing substantially after 6 months with them.

      • Origin does also credit check at signup

        • They do not. They do an ID check, not a credit check.

    • Yeah, I'm getting the same. Also with Nectr.

    • Same country SA…

      Switched to Globird today…

  • Just got my Origin bill, nearly $800 which is double of last quarter, live in Sydney metro, going to call them and blast them tomorrow.

    • check your bill to make sure the read is accurate. If it isn't take a pic of the meter with the meter number showing as well. We had the opposite problem this bill. The person that supposedly "read" the meter, obviously didn't and put it down as only approx 680kWh higher than the previous bill….which was thousands out (les than it should have been….the person obv didn't read the meter and just guessed an amount….have sent a complaint to Endeavour Energy to tell them about that dodgy "read"). Took me numerous phone calls and hours of my time to sort it. They kept coming up with a huge amount I owed in their new calculations, as they were throwing the extra all onto the new (much higher) 1/7 rates, instead of spreading it over the 3 months (which had a few different rate changes in it, much lower than the new rates) I FINALLY got it sorted after the 4th phone call…..was pretty pissed off by that stage.

  • Canberra here. Gone from $1.20 Daily and 30c/kwh to this. Granted I swapped 14c FIT to 10c FIT, but I think ill still be in front. Cheers

  • How does this compare with Globird?

  • I got $150 credit to be applied on next bill

If i switch to this better one can someone confirm wont lose the $150 credit?

Also when does this deal end?

    • +2

I updated my plan yesterday and previous $150 credit is still there.

      • Thanks. Also just curious how referal link works? Never seen it on ozbargain before

        • Can’t help with the referral question sorry.

      • There's a separate promo for $100 bonus for signing up online to the Origin Go Variable plan (direct on Origin, without using this deal link)

If you then switch again using the Friends and Family deal via link ya reckon still eligible?? Technically you're still active on same plan??

        $100 back on electricity
Choose Origin Everyday Rewards or Origin Go Variable for $100 credit (incl. GST) on your electricity account after 1 November.T&Cs apply.

Not available in Victoria or ACT. Offer available to residential electricity customers who sign up to Origin Go Variable or Origin Everyday Rewards Variable online. One credit per electricity account. Credit applied to customer’s electricity account after 1 November 2023 if the electricity account the customer signed up to is still active. Thinking of trying it out on my parents plan. Seems to be best rates for rural NSW.

        • Interesting that it says applied after 1 Nov 2023. When exactly will this be? We can be waiting forever.
