But a few issues with this VERY BASIC model….
- Only runs on an old A13 Bionic chip which was used in iPhone 11.
- No mobile data
- No GPS
Hence the cheap price
No mobile data or GPS - this is not a deal breaker for a lot of people who will be using these iPad’s in their homes, or if they are out and about, have a phone they can hotspot off.
Never said it was a deal breaker but possibly is for a few people.
Just saying thats why this model is 'cheap"But keep in mind many apps require GPS to work.
You cannot hotspot GPS from your phone unfortunately
Hence yes, its probably a deal breaker. thats why you see so many used ones for sale
Where are all the deals for ipad pro? Sorry I forgot, Apple doesn't think it needs to do sales.
I want a pro as well, to replace our old Surface Pro at home. But they are $$, I guess they don’t discount them because they sell well at the moment?
Yep. I only want it for my daughter to draw art. Otherwise wouldn't waste my time with apple.
Apple doesn't *'think" it needs to do sales .. it knows it doesn't lol … the Reality Distortion Field that emanates from its Logo to create the iCult is REAL hehe
Just checked mine. Exact same model, $499 bought in March 2022.
it's pretty clear to me. they bought it for more in 2022 which adds up doesn't it?
This breaks the Moore's Law - capacity doubles~ every 2 years. After almost 2 years we should be able to get 2x capacity/performance for less money :( than what you paid 2y ago for the same product)
That applies to CPUs not batteries, screens, labour, shipping.
You forgot the Apple tax.
Moore's Law is not a law, it is an observation; and relates to the amount of transistors on an integrated circuit, not necessarily their performance.
Moore's Second Law (or Rock's Law) is the observation that the cost of production of integrated circuits is also doubling every two years.
The chip inside (A13) might only be supported by Apple for one more year of major iOS release (iOS 18 for next year).
Apple is still supporting the 6th gen iPad with an A10 chip.
This has at least 3 years of software support left.
Bought one of these in March for work and they’re very laggy. Should have gone with the Air instead :-(
That doesn't sound right, it's still pretty fast to me. What apps are laggy?
Bought one in November 2021 for $499 and it’s been a good device
I even have a 7th gen I use for basic stuff, a little bit laggy but 9th gen is pretty fast still
Exactly, if its laggy I suspect there may be something wrong. It’s only been bought this year so he can go to Apple Store too to investigate.
@TimApple: Any app that involves typing. Messenger, my company app, safari etc. I type fast so sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds before the word appears. Funny cause it happens as I typed this.
@tomleonhart: Visit Apple store to check ur iPad.
get a receipt with the serial number on it or apppple won't reset it if you lose your login info
I actually remember someone posting about this, except it was for an iphone. it got locked from too many failed attempts and they couldn't produce receipt so apple said SOL. they were shouting it from the rooftops and rightfully so. that must suck.
Yeah the lag is real with this one.
Would be a good present for your grandma. 😅
Bought one for my grandma, thanks Bato
Are you not just talking about refresh rate? This one is stuck at 60Hz
Thanks! Bought 10 for my grandma and she love them!
Get this now if your kids need it for school next year. Most likely won't get cheaper
Our kids school wants the kids to have the 256gb, such a pain as hardly on sale
Icloud
256gb for school?!
For what
My thoughts exactly
Our school is requiring our 8 year old to acquire the iPad Air 5th gen for nearly $1300. Reckon only that device will do for next 4 years and the m1 chip is needed for AI or something?
Sheesh
This is the best birth control advertisement I've seen
Sheesh. Lighten up
@ChatCPT: Sorry
Does that $1300 include "Applecare" . I hope so …
NB: Square sellers be aware, iOS no longer supports Square KDS from next year.
If you are after tablets for KDS then probably not the best time to buy it. Good price for a great model tho.
only a couple of weeks ago Costco had it for lower and you could price match with Office Works for $417.99
I did that and used 10% big-w ultimate gc's. Missing out on the 15% TCN from coles
Does the Apple pen work with this?
I think it was only the 1st gen pencil that works with this iPad.
Yea Gen1 only
Seems JB Hi Fi has price matched it. For those who has access to discounted giftcards and Perks, can get it cheaper
Oz Cheapest price rightnow
Cheaper if you use the 15% off gc
Seems to be the normal price over the last 6 months
I’ll just wait for a deal on the 10 or mini
Them bezels are annoying meThey still selling these at this price is because high schools recommended this as BYOD
Yeah because there aren't any competing devices at this price range
It looks like both OW and JB have put the prices back up today. $547 and $549 respectively.
