Drive Bender - "It's a Friday Bender $10 (US) a License" Sale. Usually $40.00us

80

Drive Bender is a storage pool application that kind of acts like a RAID. Unlike RAID, you can use mismatched drive sizes to create a single large virtual volume. Storage Spaces in Windows 8 / Server 2012 have a lot of performance related issues (read: 20-30MB/s writes) so until they sort themselves out, this appears to be the best program to do basically the same thing. Could be useful for those that have spare Windows XP / Vista / 7 keys around for their servers to add the storage pooling technology to their servers and desktop PC's.

I've posted the deal here because there is a substantial discount on the licence for the full "Windows" version - and there's a lot of N40L's being purchased.

Limited to 100 keys, not sure how many are left.

Update: Another 50 keys have been added (from Twitter).

  • Good deal but probably a lot more support for unraid. Unraid is free for 3 drives.

    • If your needing something like this, you will be using more than 3 drives in your system

      • Not necessarily. Three drives can allow up to 6TB of data storage

        • Three new drives.

If you've got a ton of old drives lying around, this will help you make use of them.

  • +3

For $10 I'll give it a look - will even have a play with it on the N40L microserver (as I am trying Win8 off a USB boot for fun anyway, and I have a mish-mash of drives in it!). Happy to give a bit of support to an Aussie developer too!

  • Thanks.. bought a copy.. how come we have to pay GST? Wtf? This is the internet.. lol..

I bought a copy because I've been trying to use FreeNAS as backup for my NAS box.. but, it doesn't handle mismatched drive sizes very well at all under RAID 5.. 14tb in drives, comes down to 9tb usable! Been wanting something like this..

    • Their company is based in Australia according to their website, so we have to pay GST? I must state that I'm not an expert regarding GST.

      • Yeah… I didn't bother looking at where they were based.. since when does australia produce good software?

        • +2

since when does australia produce good software?

believe it or not, there was a time, not too long ago, when Australian companies did a lot more than just sell stuff dug from big holes.

        • if we keep digging holes we'll end up in one and the only one with enough money to get out will be gina rhinehart

  • Just bought 2, was comparing to Drive Pool and price has made it win hands down there

    • I personally prefer DrivePool.

      • DrivePool wasnt licensed for all versions of windows
