This is not suitable for fast SSDs. Get a USB4 enclosure.

    • +2

Maybe that's why it's on sale.

      I didn't even know USB4 was out.

      • +1

USB 4 is not a thing on SSD closures. All that claims they are USB4 will say “USB4 compatible” because they are just using Thunderbolt 3 controllers.

Also the cheapest you can get is $130 from Sabrent which is Thunderbolt 3 and NOT backwards compatible with usb 3 of any kind.

        The rest start from $150-$170.

So NOT AT ALL the same thing.

Edit: also they are perfectly suitable for all ssd’s slow or fast lol. As long as you are okay being limited to 10gbps.
Saying it’s not suitable is also misdirection.

    • What is fast SSDs?

      • -1

The one in the OP is up to 10gbps. He is prob referring to PCIE3 + drives that can get up to 40gbps like this one https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005004392613407.html (keep in mind that they are like $150 though lol)

        • The person has no idea what they are talking about is what it is…

          • +1

@Larsson: I mean if you are referring that a fast SSD could mean anything and that they are wrong about suitability, than you are right. You can use any NVME drive with the enclosure linked in the OP.

    • Which drives max out 10Gbps?

    • That's a better deal, at around AU$ 22+ (including GST).

Maybe mods can change the title and URL.

      • $13.54 usd = ~$20.56 aud

        • You can change the currency on AliEx,
to AUD, and see what the price comes to.

          • @whyisave: On aliexpress you should always pay in USD and use a no foreign transaction fee card.

            • @CodeXD: I used to pay in USD but I wasn't paying attention to the forex fees,
and when I did, I just started changing it on the AliEx side.

Currently, I have a few credit cards (as I'm churning through them):
NAB, AMEX, Citi, Westpac, Virgin … haha

            • +1

@CodeXD: Aliexpress is one of the few places where its not worth the effort to do that because the AUD price is almost the same as a straight currency conversion.

free shipping and 14 day delivery!

    • +2

The $19.71 one there on ali is B key/M+B key, that means it's SATA only. But the amazon link is M key/M+B key, which means it's NVMe.

      • You are right. I nuked the post.

  • I would like to check if I can use a Lexar NM790 4TB on this enclosure?

  • +1

I got one of these to try, taking advance of the Choice Day promos to get free shipping on orders over USD10 (they were USD9.20 a few days ago):

    https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005977099067.html

Even though the description says it's a JMS583 chipset, recent reviews on the listing have said a rtl9210b unit has been shipped

    • received today, JMS583 :(

    Material: Aluminium

    transparent aluminium! fascinating.

    • I believe it's the heat sink that is made of aluminum. It the blue thing in the photos.

  • on Amazon page, title says up to 2TB, however bottom page says up to 4TB, which is which?

    • Yeah I know right! Im waiting for some smart people to chip in. I mean this isnt my area, but does the capacity matter for the enclosure?
