For those that missed out on the previous deal, looks like it's one whole US cent cheaper than last time!

AU price based on today's MasterCard rate.

Very nifty handheld that plays everything up to PS1 flawlessly, they recently released the Plus version with a more powerful chipset and wifi, but it's around twice the price at this stage.

Had one for the better part of this year and really love playing old games on this, just be sure to get a PROPER SD card and install GarlicOS on this if you get one.

  • Can the Plus version play DC?

    • +3

Yeah it can play a decent amount of DC I believe, but without an analogue stick it's not to best experience.

In saying that though, if you connect a controller to it will be fine, as well as connecting the HDMI to a TV.

      • but without an analogue stick it's not to best experience.

Yeah, that's not ideal. I'll stick with my modded New 3DS XL that can play most of the stuff I want to play and wait for something good that can play DC.

      • There was another person who was looking for something to play Minecraft. I was going to suggest the R36S but I wasn't 100% sure because I couldn't find anyone who'd done it. What's weird is that there's handhelds from 2 years ago which look great! Perhaps the RG351P?

        • +1

R36S looks like a good option, but the chip is not powerful enough to play all games comfortably, some will run okay but slow down in the more intensive DC/N64 games. But it won't play Minecraft I believe, it's Linux so no Android games/features.

RG351P I just watched a vid and it looks like a similar thing, Sonic Adventure 2 had a lot of slowdowns but 2D games were fine. Best bet might be to shell out for a RG405M or Retroid Pocket 3+.

          • @mangobango: @Hoju Better advice here

          • @mangobango:

But it won't play Minecraft I believe, it's Linux so no Android games/features.

The Java edition of Minecraft supports Linux natively.

  • +4

Was popular in our family secret Santa gift exchange

  • Are the games preloaded or do you have to download them and install yourself?

    • +6

It has loads preloaded but the SD card it comes with is crappy and a lot of the roms are bad dumps.

Best bet is to get a cheap SanDisk/Samsung SD card from Amazon, and google and download Tiny Best Set for a good romset.

      • +2

        Thanks heaps, just bought one

        • Awesome, enjoy!

    • +25

The only reason these devices are allowed on OzBargain is because there's an (naive perhaps) assumption that no copyright games are included.

If you people keep asking over and over again "are roms included" and "where do I get roms from" I'm sure the mods will eventually ban these deals.

It's really not hard to find roms and there are certainly more appropriate places to ask than this site.

      Stop ruining it for everyone.

  • This or the Miyoo Mini?

    • +4

Miyoo Mini Plus has wifi, this doesn't.

They're both roughly the same size but the Mini Plus is a bit smaller, I personally wouldn't go any smaller than the RG35XX's size as it already feels a bit borderline "too small", but at the end of the day both are super great options.

      • +2

Miyoo doesn't have hdmi out as well. Just in case that is relevant to peoples usage

        • +2

Doesn't support plugging a controller in, either.

      • +2

this one has 2 sd card slots, miyo only 1. just in case that is relevant to peoples usage

      • +1

        Thank you! Will buy

    • +1

Absolutely LOVE my Miyoo mini, the wifi is awesome for scraping covers and netplay/multiplayer.

The RG35XX also looks awesome too, but decided I wanted wifi over hdmi out, don't think id ever plug it in to a TV

  • +10

    one whole US cent cheaper

people who bought the last deal are seething

    • +1

the best way is to buy again so the average loss is smaller

    • This is the way..

  • +1

Thanks OP. Another Xmas present checked off.

  • +3

Got one of these in the previous deal (not here yet) and bought these 2 cards for it for $14 delivered, using my $5 ebay plus monthly coupon:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/174280351655

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/194430484526

Not the fastest but they don’t need to be. I use two of the same 64GB in my drone for stills and they’ve been super reliable. The Amazon Samsung deal would have netted me 2 x 64GB cards for the same price but they’re actually lower rated than the Lexar size equivalent: U1 vs U3.

    • Would one 64gb card be enough?

      • +1

depending what kind of games/platform you are playing, if just SNES then yes 64gb should be enough but with memcard so cheap, why not settle with at least 128 and be worry free forever

      • You can definitely get away with a single card though and have the system and roms on it. I’ve chosen to use two separate cards myself but the choice is yours. As @CyberMurning said, cards are so cheap, why not get two.

        • ah yes if the thing has 2 slots then yes one small 32gb for system and 128 or 64gb if you dont mind delete/recopy every 6 months for roms

    • Are these also ok? 128gb seems to be $12

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134823634897?hash=item1f641d67d1…

      • +1

They will work just fine for this and other applications. Great price too. It’s the older version of the EVO Plus but is still a good card.

  • i dont know what this is, but i want it

  • Bought one with a voucher on ebay for $75 to be safe. Had problems 4 times on aliexpress where my order was declined "for security reasons" but they charged me each time. 4 different sellers. I was using paypal thats the only common thing. Got paypal to refund me each time as Aliexpress was awful.

Handheld is excellent quality. Runs games up to Snes. Can run n64 games if you know how to install them but it's a pain as no control sticks.

For up to snes this can't be beat.

For N64 and Gamecube you need to go up to the 405v which is around $230

    • Never had any issues with Ali, been a user for many years. Sometimes can get pushed back because of customs. May of been the battery

    • From previous threads, it sounds like your Aliexpress account is shadowbanned.

  • The plus just came out got really decent review

  • +2

Bought one of these largely for Gameboy, as I find it hard to see the original Gameboy screen, dunno how I managed as a kid.

Overall it's far nicer than I was expecting, I really like the screen on it, and it's got me playing through my old games again.

    • -1

how I managed as a kid.

      well must be the eyes

      • Haha, well the original Gameboy had a 1.9 inch 160 x 144 pixel non-backlit screen, capable of only 4 shades of green.

They weren't exactly known for having the most legible displays.

  • Can you play multiplayer wirelessly with another?

    • +1

      Nope

      • Thanks

        • +1

You can with a Miyoo Mini Plus though, it's regularly around $77 delivered

  • Anyone tried to play ps1 and psp games on this?

    • +2

I have an RG35xx Runs PSX fine
Been playing MGS1, Diablo, Tony Hawk 2, Soul Blade, Tekken 2.

If you want to play PSP you will be looking at the RG35xx Plus, but apparently its mostly lower graphic psp games that run well on it

      • Thanks mate.

    • +1

if you want sony games then get PS VITA. and hack it

      • Did they ever patch out the requirement for those proprietary mirco-sd cards?

        • nah, we dont need the original sd anymore (to hack it or to play games after). even for the first gen vita, no need

        • SD adapter and you have 512gb msd with Vita, PSP and ps1 games, plus any other emulator for the Vita.

  • How long is the shipping time do you think I could get it before 20 December?

    • Not looking likely.

      • +1

i think you/anyone here who buying will be very surprise.
with expensive items (for ali standard, $50 is expensive) - the shipping is somehow incredibly fast. unless your place has consistently late delivery from any other stores including locals, trust me, ali is now MUCH BETTER

  • Is it cheaper than the deal on Black Friday?

    • very similar we are talking couple bucks here cant even buy you a cup of coffee nowadays. just buy this if you need now

  • I'm not necessarily interested in one of these atm, but here's something I've been curious about: do console games scale suit the small screens? Is text still fairly legible for example?

    • Yeah it's fine, screen is great quality so it's easy to see/read things.

Two relatively text-heavy console games that I've played are Diablo and Mario RPG and the text is pretty big and easy to read.

  • I have heard the 35XX has PWM display flicker - can anyone confirm this?

    • There were some cases of display issues a while back but I haven't really heard much since.

It only affected a small number of units anyhow, I'd imagine their QC has improved since then.

      • +1

        Thanks!

  • So what the best SD card setup for these? What’s the max size they can handle and what would be overkill?

    • +2

64gb is plenty, even with the PS1 games.

You can go 128GB if you really want to load entire libraries but I personally found it a bit overwhelming with a giant list of games. A smaller list on a 64gb card is much better imo, you can still fit an absolute truckload on it for these older titles.

  • Kinda wish I bought this last time as it was only $48 AUD for a new/returning user (~$44 with CB).

I want a 353V or Horizontial with Joysticks though and just cant decide exactly which one. There's so many differences, albiet quite small.

  • +2

Use this URL to get it for US$39.57 (~A$60.49).

    • Just added to the OP, thanks!

  • Can someone please tell the BEST handheld emulator device, that isn't a steam deck or ROG?
I want something that will play all the way up to Dreamcast and Nintendo Gamecube.

    • +1

Have a look at the Retroid Pocket 3+, they released an update a couple of months back that drastically improved performance so GC runs pretty great on it now.

Though the 4 is likely on the horizon so I'd recommend waiting a little bit.

    • The new Ayn Odin 2 that has just been released is getting pretty decent praise.. I'm having a hard time not pulling the trigger on it myself!

  • Can i just copy of the contents of the gsme sd card to a new more reliable sd card and it will work?

    • You can make an image of the microsd card. Then use balena etcher to load this image onto another microsd card.

  • -2

How's the touch screen is it responsive?

    • Who said it has a touch screen?

      • So many models thought this one had one

    • No touch screen on this one.

  • I saw the rg35xx plus just recently released,,,is it worth getting that?

  • Anyone tried the ultra cheap variants like this for 10 bucks?

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005690586873.html

    • +1

Sure have! For $10 they're great! Especially if you have a CRT to plug it into: it's a decent video signal out that's comparable to the real hardware.

Just be aware the speaker and screen on this is cruddy, and it's running the guts of pretty much every other NES plug and play on the market for the last 15 years. You can't put your own games on it, so you'll be stuck with a selection of NES games and romhacks.

I'd wouldn't say it's a decent stocking stuffer for a young kid though, even iPad babies have access to far more stimulating games nowadays… Stick with a Roblox gift card…

  • So i missed the first post and was regretting it ever since; too many nostalgia delights to pass up a ~$70 handheld emulator machine…
Caught this one, and have been trying to not check status obsessively…have i brought this on myself? How screwed am I?

(Already assume i wont see it before Christmas, but will i see it at ALL?)

    • +1

Nah you'll be fine, all of my recent AliExpress orders said the same thing for some reason but after a couple of days I got the auspost tracking that it was arriving shortly.

      • Phew…(ta)

    • Shipping so far seems to be extremely quick

  • My tracking says:

    Clearing Customs
Failed to clear at import customs

    (at Perth airport)

  • Damnit. Mine arrived yesterday and worked perfectly with Garlic OS except…..
The video would glitch and the unit would lock up.
Time to test Aliexpress replacement policy. :(

    • Quick update on the faulty unit which now sometimes glitchws and locks up even before finishing boot. I'm in the..
      1. We'll give you 50‰ refund (and I end up with a piece of trash)
      2. You can return and get a full refund (and now pay $63USD to replace)

      I'm pushing for a replacement unit…

      • What did you do? Also how much did it cost to post back to China?

        • +1

Sorry forgot to update. In the end they issued a full refund without having to return the unit and closed the case. Just waiting for another deal to replace.

          • @Limbot: Wow that's a great outcome. Thanks for the update! Looking at grabbing one
