Airthings View Pollution Indoor Air Pollution Monitor AT-980 $60 + Delivery ($0 with $200 Order) @ Wireless 1

100

RRP of $320 reduced to $60 plus $11 delivery. I've ordered one and it's shipped/in transit atm.

Tried to get jbhifi to price match, but the best they would do is $245 so this is a heck of a deal.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2023

Not worth it because there's no CO2 monitoring

  • Got an air thing in the house. Went crazy after the bushfires we recently had. It works well. I have the mini.

Only special thing this measures is 2.5 particulate matter. If you’re into a bit of diy you can make your own one using something like this that also measures 1, 2.5, 4, 10 PM for probably cheaper than this, and have it send data to home assistant.

    • It sounds like you have experience with this, how would you rate the sensor you linked accuracy ?

      • I haven't used the sensor I've linked specifically. For accuracy, do some googling with the sensor model you intend to use and check the datasheet. The stuff you buy on aliexpress won't match specs exactly, but it should be good enough for a rough particle count to get a general idea of air quality. If accuracy matters, you can buy better quality components on places like Digikey or Mouser, but it'll cost you more.

Specs show the device data is direct-to-cloud only

I've followed this guide, for a super simple hack build.

It works great. Hard part is interpreting the data, but it's given me some fascinating insights (Did you know for instance that a sunbeam coming through the window will cause air quality to temporarily get worse? The light hits the carpet or couch, heats it up, and that causes an updraft that carries particles into the air)

I've also used it to verify that my vacuum cleaner was working properly.
