Yeah same here, I paid $18 each black Friday a couple of years ago.
The Assistant developer team got slimmed down this year as they look to develop something more AI-y.
Usual Google approach - develop, release, promote, ditch just as it gets popular. Never ever buy/use anything Google with the expectation it will be there next month.

Thing is, they literally don't need to listen to you. You give them so many other thousands of data points it's not necessary.
I got OW to price beat. They "overlooked" that it was on special order at bunnings (not in stock so not eligible)
Got 2 of these a few years ago for$18 each. Quality of assistant had degraded significantly over three last few years, having issues to understand, not executing actions properly, losing features, etc. Not worth more than what i paid for IMO.
