I am +1 the deal, but it went up a few hundred a few weeks back.. It was 2540 or something…

Also, here's a 1m fat sofa for you fat arses out there:

      Colour: skidmark

Wash your arse, it's not gay.

        • +3

and even if it was that’s ok too just clean your ring daily you filthy animals.

    • I read "inspired shape" as insipid shape…

  • +31

It was $18xx RRP pre covid, and I thought that was an insane price.. Apparently that was a good price.

  • +1

    Looks like it's storewide

    • Man I wish it included the exit store, its cheaper to buy new than the exit store, and some stuff on there has been there for a year+…

  • rubbish deal. got mine from overseas with international shipping cost me $1300+.

    this is simply ridiculous.

    • +15

OK, have to ask, where from? And when… And why didn't you post it as a deal?

      • +12

It either doesn't exist or he got it years ago when the Aeron only cost $1400 in AUS.

He could of also got it used but then why would you buy a used aeron from USA.

To get that price after shipping and GST he would have to have paid 40% off on an Aeron. They don't do those sales.

Don't expect a response from him. He probably sits on an office works chair.

      • +2

from China, you have to arrange your own shipping as well. so not really practical for an average Austrailan

        • +9

Last I checked, China is a pretty big place. Anything a little more… specific?

          • +10

@CamM: yeah, from taobao if you are interested.
like I said not really practical for native Aussies but just to give some idea about the out of factory prices. (around $1000 AUD, shipping&tax would cost $300 plus).

            • @HD9990: Aren't these chairs only manufactured in their original plant in the US? Wasn't aware they had China factories churning them out

              • +7

                @Menzoberranzan: From Living Edge's website -:

                Production Location
Aeron is manufactured in Michigan, USA, and Dongguan, China.

                • @CamM: Ahh interesting. Didn't realise they opened up in China as they had their 'Made in America' branding they were pushing years ago when I got my Embody

              • +1

@Menzoberranzan: There is a factory in Guangdong to do final assembly I think

            • @HD9990: Are they legit? The HM official site in china is showing 3x that price

        • +2

its 4.5k rmb from taobao. around 1k aud

        • And how do you manage the warranty for the chair, does the place you purchased from in China offer to cover the 12 years?

          • +6

@Tbargain12: Guess that's the trade off I will have to take. Half price wirhout warranty or full price with.

            • -2

@HD9990: Exactly right. That's why it's that price.

              • @Tbargain12: actually the seller will still cover for warranty if:
                1. the busiess is still there when your chair go wrong.
                2. arrange your own shipping or detect the faulty part and ask for the right part & DIY assemble

                • @HD9990: That's not really covering the warranty though is it? With HM in most cases (likely depends on country and where you are) you get the parts and installed for free on-site.

                  • +2

@Tbargain12: yeah, it's just better than nothing.
such is life, you pay a premium and get premium service, I guess for me a $1000 premiun is too much for the potential "warranty".

                    • +1

@HD9990: Yeah not saying you're wrong for taking the lower price at all, it just put things into perspective. It is good to get a bargain, but sometimes it's a gamble, and whether or not it is worth the trouble x amount of years down the line is all I'm saying.

                      • +2

@Tbargain12: totally… I used to buy a lot cheap stuff ended up wasting money…

        • @HD9990 did you use taobao official warehouse? Or 3rd party forwarder?

          • @xanctum: Hmmm. There's little stuff in the official store. Taobao is more like eBay as a c2c platform

            • @HD9990: @HD9990 Sorry, I meant to ask whether you used taobao official shipping / or forwarder option, or a separate 3rd party forwarder company. The reason I asked is that I have had parcels rejected by taobao's official forwarder due to its size, and I'm worried that they'd also reject the chair

              • +1

@xanctum: Third party. Official ones won't take this I believe

                • @HD9990: Yea. That's what I'm afraid of. I'm using the official one now and hoping that it'll go through.

Any third party that you'd recommend @HD9990?

    • +2

What was the change rate back then?

    • +2

Can you please provide details where?

    • +3

…But this deal is local stock for $1300+ (without the faffing about of international shipping). /s

Seriously though, do tell as I'm sure plenty of people would be interested in a new Aeron at that price.

      • +2

Even on sale in the US with no sales tax it converts to AU$2000 - this guy won't be posting anything worthwhile.

        • +1

Notice there was also no mention of whether that was $1300+ shipped for new or used.

          • +2

@CamM: brand new, also comes with a head rest.

            • @HD9990: Could you please pm me details? Interested in this deal if its still around

          • +1

@CamM: Yes, there is also the customs and duties paid for items over $1k too.

      • +3

lol this guy just trolling. I just check the official Herman Miller store from taobao and the aeron cost 3k AUD without shipping cost. His price is coming from a non-offical distributor of the Herman Miller, and you better buy a steelcase chair rather than a duplicate of the Chinese brand. Again, not offence to Chinese products, but if you spend $1.3k on a chair, why not get one that comes with a brand and warranty?

        • Like TikTok, Tencent, and other big tech companies in China, if their employee order Aeron from the company's channel, which is just costs around 1.2K AUD like HD9990 said.

          • +1

@ggdd: I dont think that's what HD9990 mean. He most likely purchase from a third-party taobao store which claims their product is Herman Miller

        • AFAIK, there's no counterfit aerons on the market. so what I got was more likely this deal:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/789397

          • @HD9990: lol i dont think you will get an official warranty even if you use it in China.

            • @pq8382: me neither… maybe expect this to last 6 years and get another one when this one dead?

        • +1

I did some research on these $1.3k Aeron Chairs months ago, and the story I heard was similar to what ggdd mentioned above. These $1.3k chairs are genuine and brand new in condition but not directly from public wholesale channels. Big tech firms normally get a huge discount from Herman Miller (HM) when bulk purchasing, and someone inside takes advantage and resells these chairs on Taobao. I also heard they even established fake branches or shell companies just to get these office items and resell them on Taobao.

          • @yibow: hahah, that's maybe the case. But you still lose the warranty on chair anyway

        • +1

Taobao actually is very controlled market place, so you won't see some crazy pricing these days.
Try use 闲鱼 xianyu, you will have to download it on your mobile, it's now app only.
xianyu is a relatively new taobao app, dedicate for second hand and off channel stuff.

I bought many of my figurines (warhammer toys), musical instrument (if you like Lava branded guitar and stuff), high end headphones and I also aquired a used embody for 4600RMB (around 1k inc, shipping cost me 245 roughly, arrived June this year, shipping took almost 2 months) , which looks almost brand new. (you can always ask seller to take more photos before you buy)
Lots of people are skeptical about buying stuff from China, also there is a huge language barrier, and that's why this people are paying a premium for stuff locally.
If you have a Chinese friend, get them to hunt for a deal for you.
I don't think premium service is worth that much money.

        • The $1300 Aeron itself is brand new and indeed a Herman Miller product, not a knockoff. The problem is that it doesn't come with an original warranty, which might be worth more than 1/2 of the value of the initial payout. If you use Aeron and Embody daily, they actually wear out pretty quickly. I've owned an Embody for 12 years and Herman Miller almost replaced everything for my Chair twice. Everyone who uses Aeron knows how fast the wheels wear out. In my opinion, buying from Authorised Distributor can maximise the value of Herman Miller products, unless you rarely use them.

    • +1

My last new Aeron I bought when I lived in the US for USD$597.55 - in 2013, when the AUD was buying ~USD$1.10.

I am writing this sitting on the first Aeron I ever bought - in about 2001 - was about $1200.

    • I agree with you. I got my new Aeron 2 for 4600 CNY when I travelled back to China last year, I disassembled it put it in my suitcase and brought it to Australia. Really overpriced in Australia.

      • disassembled it…. good for you!

      • wow amazing that's possible. To what extent did you disassemble it? Did you need a big suitcase? And did you end up paying GST? I'm seriously thinking about doing something similar.

    Here for the comments.

      lets see paul allens chair

    • Good chair but if you have fat arse the Mirra2 might not be best option. 😁

Price was $1150 new back in 2015 from Living Edge (I bought one). Now in 2023 "on sale" for $1816 🤣

      • DAIM…

I didn't know people paid so much for furniture.

  • +11

I didn't realise I was on OzPremium lol

  • I’ve got a 2nd hand Aeron. I’ve had it for about 5 years so far and its very comfortable but sometimes I wished it had a headrest. Very sturdy and it would probably last for well over 10 years. Overall, Im happy with this high yield investment :)

    • I got two cheap from an auction. One is good, on the other the seat has started to split. That said, I don't know how old they are.

      • +1

There is usually a sticker on the underside of the chair with the manufacturing date if you do want to know

    • +4

Atlas make headrests that are a perfect match.

      • +1

I have the new one with fabric, had it for a few months, prefer without it honestly, it's just sitting in storage now.

  • I got one 2 years ago for $1690, I thought it was a crazy high price, apparently, I was wrong.

  • Herman miller aeron vs steelcase gesture with headrest??

Herman miller has no headrest and is stiff but good if you want to be seated in that same upright position for a long time heard it csn help fix back problems

Gesture has a readrest which is a benefit for some, and is slightly cheaper and just as good for support anyone have any experience between the two?

    • I’ve always liked Steelcase more, had an aeron and a Steelcase leap at the same time and preferred the Steelcase by a lot and sold the aeron

      • Same, various Aerons at work and Leaps at home. Prefer the Leap by a wide margin.

Aeron benefits greatly from decades of hype and Herman Miller brand recognition, it's bread and butter market is selling to businesses kitting out offices in bulk where it's high RRP is just another item under the SG&A bottom line. However that doesn't mean it's automatically better than everything available to an individual consumer.

    • Just tried a Steelcase Gesture vs the Leap (V2) and the Leap is FAR more adjustable, and just seems like a better chair because of that. In most of the reviews I have read the Leap and Aeron are rated very close, with the new V2 leap usually just in front, and for less money.

Steelcase will have their Back Friday sale on tomorrow, which will likely be 25% off. No idea if the Leap will be included in the sale.

      • I got a Gesture First (for work) and a Leap second (for home). Leap is my preferred for comfort.

      • I have the V2 leap. It's a great chair, but the base gets pretty firm by the afternoon.

Work have Aeron knock offs. I think they're Harworth. Thinking about getting one for the afternoon shift since the base pad is a bit more plush.

    • headrest

Is that for a disability or something?

      • If its catering your head sure.

      • In all seriousness headrests are slept on youre already spending 2k+ not having a headrest doesnt make sense at that stage unless you know you really really dont like them (which in that case better to have and not need than to need and not have) headrests are really neckrests and help with that nerd neck posture

    • You can get an Aeron headrest from https://atlasheadrest.com/en-au - the company was started by an ex-Herman Miller engineer and uses the same mesh. I have one for my ancient Aeron.

    • Having used both extensively, Steelcase Think is the way to go :)

  • +1

Ah yes, Herman Miller, for those who want to blow their entire Black Friday budget in one big fat load.

  • +5

Get it second hand for $500-800, they last forever

    • +3

Can confirm. I'm sitting on mine, bought in 2001 (I think - possibly 2000). I had to replace the seat last year as it tore but the rest of it is great. One of the best investments I've ever made.

The big downside is they ruin all other chairs for you.

      • How much did the seat replacement cost?

        • +1

$205. Took about 10 minutes to replace tops; super easy.

It's kinda pricey but nowhere near as much as a new chair!

    • I did this. Mine's 10+ years old and still going well. Great chair.

    • Just be sure to test all the adjustments before you hand over money.

They do last forever but they're not invulnerable, and 2nd hand usually means from an office clearance, which means years of abuse from uncaring humans.

Definitely the adjustment features can break in isolation, or become loose, worn etc. If some one has just one for sale, it's probably a personal chair and might be in better knick than someone who has 10+ for sale. But the 10+ people are usually cheaper. So it's a balance, will depend how much time you have to shop around.

  • Why not go for the Embody gaming version? You can even have a few dollars off.

    • +2

I personally don't want another fabric chair ever again.
