Knowing someone got it for $339.96 with code PREZ15-XL4 (EXPIRED) last time. I can’t buy until near there.

    • Sign up to their site for $10 off brings it to $389.95, but that lower price really is a bargain

  • Anyone sharpened their shun? Got lots.of chips on our blade now.

What are you sharpening it with?

Doesn't Shun offer a single sharpening a year if you pay postage?

There doesn't seem to be a limit on how often you can do it. I'm fairly confident they just sent out a new knife for me instead of sharpening it as I indicated it had no sentimental value. Details at https://shunaustralia.com.au/shun-australia-complimentary-sh…

        • Boom! Even better!

        • Oh.. this has now made the offer very tempting..
i'm super lazy with my sharpening and when i do it.. it is good but not out of the box sharp

          • @kickmiass: If you hone more often, you'll need to sharpen less.. 😅 Shouldn't sharpen too often, especially with these finer blades. Safer to remember to just hone it often and leave it to the pros to sharpen properly.. 😅 I haven't even perfected the sweep to get a good sharpen from my whetstones.. 😪

            • @WasBargain: Yeah i hardly sharpen my global knives.. sharpened it like 3-4 times in the past 8 years?
I got a professional to sharpen it once and they destroyed my single bevel yanagiba… (they honed/polished both sides and it doesn't cut as nicely as before) i just use Victorinox swibo's now for meat and fish

My idea is to use my global knives if i have to get the Shun knives sharpened but the missus is a bit like.. we don't need more

              • @kickmiass: Ohhh noooooo! 🤬

Just tell her it's her or the knives..

                or both? 🔪🤷‍♀️

        • Cheers for this. Any idea how long it takes?

          • @tunzafun001: Website is the same as a few years ago, the dude rocks up on Thursdays and works throughout the weekend. Apparently they'll try and have it out to you by Monday or Tuesday. So you'll have about 3 - 4 weeks downtime at the worst. If you time it right, you might only be missing your favourite knife for like 10 days - 2 weeks?

@WasBargain: Sweet..just want it back for Xmas. Thanks again.

              • @tunzafun001: No worries. It should arrive by Christmas if you drop it this week. Hopefully they'll start on it on the 30th and it'll be in the mail to you by the 5th of December at the latest.

@WasBargain: Yeah, seconding the experience of 3 - 4 weeks. From memory I got a "A delivery is coming!" notification a good week before I got the knives back. Delivery to Melbourne metro.

  • I have only 1 Shun and it is my favourite.

Too much in that set that I did not need.

Looked the prices and they are well over what I bought my knife for from a non Au seller.

Free sharpening certainly an incentive to buy from a local seller.

  • Very good knives, much much better than global. Look for Victorinox if you are on a budget.

I own Victorinox, mundial, global, shun and Japanese imports and have owned many more previously :)
