Nice deal. If I didn't have some already I would be very tempted. Who am I kidding - I'm still tempted!

I have an unopened wusthof set, didn’t stop me :)

Isn't buying something you'll never use - essentially spending money and getting nothing - the opposite of a bargain? 🤔

          You're new here, aren't you?

    • Same same

    Must… resist…

  • Couldn’t resist.

  • Shun also do free lifetime sharpening.

You just have to pay for post there and back. I actually had a knife with a bent tip, and they managed to straighten it out as well.

    Good service.

    • sounds like you tryied to open a bottle lid with it… :)

  • Expires today, so don't think too long about it,

  • what makes this knife so special, even with $400 price some people are tempted to buy.
Just curious, cos im using a ~$2 knife from Kmart n it does the job for a few months.

Why get a pair of Nikes when $10 Kmart shoes fit your feet just as well?

Maybe people don't wat to be continually throwing things away and contributing to a culture of waste creation?

Like everything in life, some things are better than others when more money can be used in the production.

I have this shun set, globals, Mundial, Victorinox, coles knives and have had lower-quality stuff before.

Better quality knives have good steel which can be made thinner allowing easier cutting even when less sharp. With good steel, the sharpness lasts much longer, making getting them sharpened/sharpening yourself better than buying new knives. Getting your knives sharpened will almost always give you a sharper knife than when purchased.

Why pay $400 for a knife set?
You only buy it once, it can last you a lifetime.

If you have only used cheap low quality knives, I recommend trying even something mid-tier that has been properly sharpened, many have never actually had a sharp knife before, just a thin wedge IMO.

      • I think this is probably true. MY global knife is now coming up to 15 years. But then I bought a K mart global copy. It's now coming up to 10 years I think. Just get a good sharpener.

  • How does this compare to the other one mentioned here? I don't really know my knives.

    https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/product/shun-premier-7pc…

    • Different style, has hammered blade from what I could see.

    • Comparison here: https://prudentreviews.com/best-shun-knives/
Basically Permier is a step up over Kanso. Kanso is the budget-basic Shun series.
On second thought, this could be classic (which is similar to premier). It says Classic Kanso, so its a bit confusing!

    • Like anything the more you spend the less you get.

For pretty much everyone there isn't any functional reason to get the premier. It's the same steel.

You'll get a hammered finish if you like the look of that, and it will demonstrably stick to food less (if that's important to you). Arguably a "fancier" set.

I couldn't recommend anything above the classic to anyone but the most cashed up people.

      • Or those with bigger hands.

The premiere rang has a broader handle so suits me better.

I was able to get it for $339.96 using PREZ15-XL4 from an old expired deal.

    • Nice find!

So how many of you that bought it thought:

"Eh, I don't need this at all… but damn that's a good deal! Better buy it in case I want it later… or I can resell."

  • Dang I’ve been waiting

  • Best sharpener that isn't using a whetstone etc.?

Anyone heard of this one: https://raythehsarpener.com/collections/risam-your-cutlery-p…

      use whetstone for VG-XXX steel

  • Premium knife set in a block. Yeah, not so sure about that.
