  • So will this work in Australia even though it’s coming from the US. Ie 240 volts

the power supply is most likely to work, but you may need a US to AU pin convertor.. though most people are probabyl buying these to remove the drive from the case and then put them in a NAS - so again, most people would have spare AU power supplies from drives they have bought in the past.

It will be an external switch mode power supply. You may need to get an adaptor or order one of WD Australia as they do send them out. Look for previous posts as people have explained how to get one.

In the past I have registered the device immediately with WD and they have shipped (free) the appropriate AU plug/cable from South East Asia. It usually arrives in 7-10mdays. The registration also applies the appropriate device warranty period and expiry. It's a great service in my experience.

Contact WD support online and they will send you an AU adapter for free.

      • Thanks to all the responses, Great to know!

    Shame about the aussie dollar

I know right. Got this well over a year ago for $385.

  • Absolutely. Bought 20TB WD Element from Amazon US a while ago with a price considerably better than this.

  • Is there anyway to get around shipping restrictions from international amazon stores? I have a 20% code for amazon Germany but cant find any deals since most items do not ship to Aus.

  • Y’all think this will be cheaper in a year or two? I need 4x18TB to upgrade my ZFS raidz3 (18x 18TB plus 4x 16TB) but I don’t need it until 2024

External hdd prices have remained stagnant, or even increased over the past year.

Look at the price history on here and you’ll see.

      That said… I dunno. Maybe?

  • Thinking about pulling the trigger, but most probably cheaper this Friday or next Monday

    • I wouldn't count on it. Most of the best deals I've gotten are always just before the sales start.

I bought this exact 18TB drive both last year and the year before around now instead of holding out until Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and both times the prices went up when the sales started. Not always to full price again, but most of the way.

I can't guarantee it will be the same this year, but it's Amazon so you can claim for a refund for the price difference with 7 days if it isn't.

  • Hi All,

Since this is available via Amazon USA. Does this mean I cannot use my Amazon AU Gift Card Balance.

    • Yes

      • Thanks for verifying.

I went to Gift Card Balance and also noticed the Zero balance

Waiting for this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/769555 to reappear :)

    • Do you think it will actually happen? I too am hoping as my NAS is getting full, but from my understanding this was a currency conversion error and may not happen again.
