The receiver that fits any rack space.

Just 85 mm high and 317 mm deep, Pioneer Slim Receivers are designed to fit in any popular TV or home cinema rack. And with the "Sound Wing" mode, they are the ideal companion for Sound Wing speakers for 360° surround with just 1 or 2 speakers.

The slim VSX-S300 brings you the basics of HD home cinema, with the option to intelligently adjust the sound according to the position of your speakers using MCACC. This way, you'll always be sitting in the sweet spot for perfect audio when watching a film or gaming. An AM/FM tuner is built-in.

Eco Mode is a special power-saving feature that reduces up to 60% of power usage through de-activating unused functions.

True home cinema
Turn your living room into a cinema with 5.1 HD surround sound. With speakers in the front, rear and middle and and a subwoofer connected, you'll immerse yourself in a lively film experience.

High-definition audio
Besides Dolby Pro Logic IIz, the receiver supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio so you can enjoy uncompressed, high-definition audio from Blu-ray discs as well.

The latest, convenient HDMI technology
With HDMI you can use this receiver to watch 3D video from a Blu-ray disc. Other convenient features include an Audio Return Channel for TVs with DVD player or Tuner built-in, for example, and Standby pass-through.

Connect your portable device
If you have a mobile device to play audio from, simply connect it to the receiver using the 3.5mm mini-jack on the front panel.

Intelligent speaker calibration
Surround speakers can hardly be ideally positioned. MCACC therefore analyses the existing sound field using a microphone (included), just like a sound professional, and adjusts the sound timings to precision-tune the system to your room

at least this one is in stock

  • Saving another $150 from 6 months ago, although without the bonus Blu-Ray player this time.

    • How do you get the free BR player?

      • Check the previous deal:

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68551

Basically a promo ran by DickSmith that you get both the AV Receiver and Blu-Ray Player as a package.

        • I was the OP of the deal. The deal was actually a mistake on their website. However,$199 is great, not as insane as the $99 deal but I found this model is better than the other one in size and style..

  • +1

    VERY GOOD PRICE,
paid $350 for this 6 months ago, I thought that was a bargain at the time

nice little receiver, does the same stuff the big boys do, in a smaller package.

  • 4 HDMI and 1 composite input.

    • They could've chucked in at least one component input in or made it hybrid with the composite input, would've only been two more sockets bleeeurgh rca socket rage

      • I know how you feel but composite is capable of 540p component is capable of 720 and HDMI is capable of 1080p so I can understand why they'd just skip over component when HDMI does a better job using just one cable. I really like playing the Wii but can't connect it to my T.V. using component because it only accepts RCA and HDMI which is a bummer because a maximum of 540p for gaming just isn't enough.

        • You might be able to make this work by getting a Component AV to HDMI convertor cable and connect the two devices through an AV Receiver or BD player capable of upscaling the input source.

  • Thanks, just ordered! Guessing the included speakers are standard junk, but can hopefully flip them and buy some decent speakers. Output for the amp is pretty low, 100w at 4 ohms per channel, far below the 125w at 6 ohms of standard low-end speakers. But for $200 i can't complain

    • If you are interested, you could sell the speakers to me as I just bought a pioneer vsx-522 couple of weeks ago and still looking for speakers as can't afford the high end one atm.

      • +2

Sure, except I'm in melbourne and shipping will probably mean its not worth your while.

        • Agreed. My bad.

        • PM'd you. In regards to these speakers.

      • i would have considered your offer too.. but I'm in Brisssy

  • This one is pretty good in terms of sound .
I bought them last time when it was $350.
One of my best buying decision.

I'm very happy with The sound quality.

  • Grab one! lol can't resist. I was just thinking about whether they will lower that price of VSX300, when I see VSX521 for $99…XD

  • Any one in Sydney bought one and doesn't need the speakers, I am happy to buy it off you.

    • PM me zone

      • done.

  • a good bargain.. consolation prize for not getting the $99 521
    cheers OP!

(this will actually be more suitable for where I want to fit it, and possibly in terms of power consumption I want)

  • Speakers look like the Pioneer S-HS50
    http://shop.pioneer.com.au/shop-online/home-entertainment/sp…
Can't find specs of them though.

    • +1

Yup, there are two boxes in the outer box - one for the AV Receiver and one for the set of speakers. The speakers are indeed the S-HS50. They just work, and I reused the cabling and stands from my previous Pioneer HTiB about 10 years ago.

  • What are the options for the rear speakers? Should I get a speaker stand or should I place it at the side of the sofa? I'm also wondering if the wires are long enough?

    • Speaker stands or wall mounted are usually the way to go, you should have them at about head height, not sure how putting them on the couch would work. Can always buy more wire from jaycar/jb/masters if it's not long enough for you.

    • He wires are pretty long, at least a few metres!

  • Wow. Okay. I'm keen.

You forgot to mention it's your first post ;)

  • It seems if you want to use composite video, you need to have a composite video out from the receiver to the tv:

"The signals input from the analog (composite) video inputs of this unit will not be output from the HDMI out."

So you have to have a HDMI and composite video connection to the tv if you want to use the composite connection…damn :(

    • +2

No low-end receivers will do analog to digital conversion unfortunately. Cheapest model i can find with it is the Onkyo NR515 at around $500.

    • edit: as above

  • Anyone have a staff card ID they can PM me? Thanks in advance!

  • Purchased!

    Shipping was free…

    • Yeah noticed that when purchasing. Even though the banner at the top says free shipping for purchases over $250

      • Did you purchase the extended warranty? It would've bumped it up to $264.

I'm being charged postage to Sydney.

        • Postage was free to melbourne without the extended warranty.

        • Extended warranty? Nope :)

        • postage was free to brissy

        • Luck box .. How is that all 3000 and 4000 postcodes get free delivery. Unlucky Sydney-siders.

        • +1

Sorry to say IT WAS FREE DELIVERY TO PERTH TOO :P

        • postage is NOT free to sydney!!!! WTF!!

        • Free delivery to Perth metro north, as well …

  • I have one from the previous deal, really suits me as I just can't for the life of me understand why the AV receivers have to be so large otherwise. For an apartment with a smallish lounge room, this is really great. Might even be way too powerful for most bedrooms.

Only things I don't like about the AV receiver are:
    * On screen controls requires a composite video connection - what the?
    * Can't change names of HDMI inputs
    * Still can't work out how to decipher volume in dB. What's wrong with 0 to 12 or something?

Would be nice to have a way to connect it to my Wi-Fi network so I could control it from my iPhone like I "could" with their Blu-ray player.

    Highly recommended.

    • damn, forgot about the onscreen control thing only being composite.
i suppose you only need connect it to an old tv once though (if that?), just for initial setup.

      • Most TVs should have one compatible composite input, even with a stupid combined component input. Unless you're plugging this into a computer monitor.

  • Bought! Freakin awesome op. I have NO money at the moment, so I cant technically afford this…but my credit card company doesn't know that :)

  • +1

pity the bluetooth adaptor seems to be about $100

    • Yea, it's not USB as well, can't even try a third party one :(

  • Yay! scored one and got free delivery.

  • i before e, except after c.
    Sorry dzone haha. great post

  • Ordered online but half expect an email to say unable to fulfill due to stock availability.

I've owned this system with these speakers for the past 6 months or so and use it for my PC and PS3 (both with audio-out over HDMI) on my 46" HDTV. I'm no audiophile and it doesn't have a THX logo but I think it's fantastic value and works fine.

Very sadly it has no component input, so I can't plug in my Wii :'( I didn't realise that at the time. I think the next model up/down (the thicker one) has it.

    • Like you, I was a bit disappointed about not being able to have my Wii plugged into the receiver.
Got my set today and was doing a bit of reading on what the hell ARC was and to my surprise, I discovered that I could get my sound to play through the AV receiver given that my TV also supported ARC.
I currently have it set up: Wii =(Component, Audio + Video)=> TV =(HDMI in ARC Port, Audio)=> AV Receiver.
No need to buy a HDMI adapter now. :D

Anyway, have you checked that your TV supports ARC?

      • Is ARC working correctly for you? I connected up my samsung tv through arc ports and it's randomly worked twice otherwise it doesn't work. I think it's the TV, but of course samsung is trying to shift the blame to Pioneer.

  • ozbargained! Thanks OP! :)

How would these compare to logitech z5500 in sound quality

  • Does this one come with a remote control?

  • +1

Was going to ask the same question. My z5500 is stuffed and in need of a new speakers system.

    • +1

What do you mean by stuffed? Mine stopped working and found out it needed a fuse replaced. Picked up a handful for a few dollars (possibly at dick smith) and only ever had to replace it the once. Has been running fine for 4-5 years.

      • We had electrical fault at home and power keeps going on and off due to faulty powerboard. It killed my speakers, tried changing fuse but it still won't power on.

  • Hold on whats the different between this and VSX-521, which is better?

    • One is a home theater package (with receiver and speakers) and one is just the receiver.

    • Much thinner. Not sure about the number of inputs at the back.

  • are these silent or do they have a fan actively cooling?

    • +1

Silent. I bought one from the last deal and am very happy with it!

  • The sub in this package can get quite annoying at low volumes. It constantly clicks on and off (the auto on/off power saving feature) and there is no over ride switch to just leave it on like most subs have. Might be worth considering if you are planning to use it in a bedroom where the room size means it wont be turned up too loud.

    • thanks for mentioning that.
will let you know if mine happens to behave any different, or can be made to behave different.

  • i want to know people with lg tv and connect this.. how is the sound and compatibility ?

    • +1

i have this paired with my 46" LG, sound is ok, better than TV Speaker and you can use ARC from the TV

      • and with this, now you can hear sound from movies with DTS?

        • You can play uncompressed audio, including DTS-HD MA.

        • yes if you connect it with a bluray player or pc, most TV will only play 2 channel DTS, so not from your TV media player.

  • what will do you with the satellites? hang them on something? i hate wired stuff….

  • Speakers? Look at the price! And these aren't even brand new!

    http://shop.pioneer.com.au/shop-online/home-entertainment/sp…

Edit: Did not see post above, my mistake, sorry.

  • Quoted from OP -
    "Intelligent speaker calibration
Surround speakers can hardly be ideally positioned. MCACC therefore analyses the existing sound field using a microphone (included), just like a sound professional, and adjusts the sound timings to precision-tune the system to your room"

Is the microphone integrated to the system (as in built in)? or does it mean a physical external microphone? Thanks.

    • +1

seems to be a physical external microphone from this video

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol51xT8kTHI

      • +1

        Thanks boss =D

      • +3

I bought this exact amp and speaker kit for $500 months ago.

Yes the mic is more like a button with a clip on it that is attached to a very long cord. The idea is you place on you where u sit in the room and the amp calibrates the volume from each speaker by testing with some noise.. which sounds like bursts of static getting louder and louder.

        Works well.

  • -

  • grabbed one online, impossible to resist at that price. Thanks OP.

  • -1

I was curious about the speaker specifications, and thought others might like to know …
    I found the manual @ http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/42/99/S-HS100/media.html
    Specifications on page 12

    • Speakers are S-HS50 as per posts above.

    • Wrong model I think, in the post by quarrymaster above he says "The speakers are indeed the S-HS50"

Unfortunately I can't find any info on the SHS50's

    • The speakers look different to the ones in the deal?

Someone above said that the woofer doesn't have a switch to stop auto on/off.. but the one at your link does.
Are you certain the specs are for the deal speakers?

      • Looks the same as mine. Couldn't find any of the docs which may have come with the box. Bit hard to reach the back of the sub, but I remember the satellites were pretty much the same - except for the colour of the terminals, so I used them to determine which ones to use for fl, fr, c and rear.

The specs on the satellites on one of the rears are as follows:
        Max power 100W
        Impedance 8 ohm

    • my bad - it seems I did a search for S-HS50 but somehow got directed to the S-HS100 above (sorry) - I tried searching again but couldn't easily find anything on the web

  • Ordered one. Thanks OP.

Anyone interested to buy the speakers from me? I am based in Sydney. Pm me.

  • Ordered one. Missed the VSX 521 deal. The guy at Belconnen, ACT said they have 2 VSX521 but they can't sell those as they are floor models.

How is sound quality on these speakers compared to logitech z906 speakers. I was planning to buy those from logitechshop this weekend.

  • +1

heh, this guy has just bought some and listed for $450 on gumtree! "these retail for alot more" uh really?

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/southern-river/tv-dvd-players…

    • +1

lol, you can see in the sofa set photos he is selling he already had surround sound system.

  • Got one - thanks :)
