Both the 521 and the S300 act this way, so neither are good for me, but I would go for the S300 if I had a choice.

Tried Colonnades SA. 1 demo unit only, and they can't find the box/remote/etc. Waiting for a call back to fetch it.
No call back. I suspect the staff made up a convenient excuse so they could buy it themselves, or sold it to someone else.

Yep. Guy noted stores in surrounding area had them but upon calling apparently not in stock. Maitland for instance is listed as having two but on calling has none…
Yeah I called all the Newcastle stores. Glendale said the last call he took was to hold their last one, lucky I was at the central coast for work today :D
Seems you need multiple output cables to the tv if you want to use component / composite?
"This receiver is not loaded with a video converter. When you use component video cables or HDMI cables for connecting to the input device, the same cables should be used for connecting to the TV.

My tv does not have discrete inputs for my Harmony, and was after a receiver to do the switching…lucky my order was cancelled LOL!
Got the last one at Taigum and the last on the Northside of Brisbane. I called the guy at Taigum to put it on hold for me at 10.30am, i got the at 11.05am and apparently he had 6 phone calls in the 35 mins asking for them lol.
I called Chermside and they had one on hold for someone and Brookside had one but they had just put it on hold for someone 5 mins before i called.

Spec show this amp is 6ohms driver, Will 8ohms speakers run on this amp safety?
Yes the 6 ohms is just a reference point for the output power. It should do 4-16ohms fine.

I got the display item too. Wasn't used. Just something for people to physically look at. All the parts and remote came in a bag with it as well. Just no box. Got an extra 10% off so down to $89.16! True bargain.

I'm having problems with my refurb one from the last deal. The front left speaker always seems to cut out and if I move the box around a bit it'll jump back in. The wires connecting speaker->amp is fine, no idea why this problem continues though!

Has anyone picked up? Mine one shows VSX-521-k on the package. Is it same as VSX-521? And is there a microphone included? On DSE website specs it says with a microphone, but I didnt see it. Maybe because mine is a display unit?

Microphone is for the MACC thingy for auto configuration of speakers.

When I went to pick mine up everything was there except the remote. The guy went through a box with about 20 remotes in it but none for the receiver. Phoned Pioneer $35 for a remote delivered. So not all that bad a $500 receiver for $134
Any idea what the model for the remote was?
When I was placing order over phone, the DSE guy couldn't find the box and the remote so he offered me $79. But at the time i picked up, he found them and I gotta pay $99. Still happy anyway

DSE is probably sick of us OZ guys calling them asking them the same question. They should just update thier damn website
For those who didn't get a remote, I would recommend considering a Harmony instead of the Pioneer remote…can confirm the VSX-521 is in their database.

There were quite a few in stock 5 hours and 7 minutes ago when the deal was posted…., a number of people (including myself) got one
I reserved one for myself, going to pick it up after work! Looks like they got smart and removed the units which were on hold/reserved, so the shop now displays no stock available.

Great deal. I coupled the VSX520 ($333) with the Sony speaker 7.1 set($249, got 7.1 in case I upgraded receiver later) from here a few years back and it's been one of my better investments.

Went in to JB hifi today but they only had the newer model 522
Mine didn't come with the remote, I asked for a discount because of it and they ended up selling it to me for $80 and took my phone number in case it turns up! My Harmony remote works well with it.

Got one yesterday. Thanks OP for your post. Called the store about 8 mins after your post and they had one in stock. Asked for it to be put on hold and drove straight to the store. $99 later I had a brand new in the box unit in my hot little hands :)

Just letting people know it appears you can price match these. Ring around if you can. Harvey Norman had one left (display) which they knocked down to $90 as there was a small dent on the back. When I picked up, had trouble locating the accessories, so only ended up with the remote and instructions (no mic). Happy with the deal for the price though. Warranty is still the same as a new model I'm told. So yes, if you missed out, try a price match before despairing.

Got mine. Connected my HTPC to it via HDMI and then my TV to the 'HDMI Out' with HDMI and nothing shows on the screen. Any ideas?
Apparently you can't get on screen display through HDMI. It's a bit silly really. You need an analogue connection to the TV for it to show. Just some regular RCA cables should do. If not, just use the front panel LCD for setup. I guess we can consider it a 'quirk' for the price ;).
I had one on hold at the Colonnades SA store, but they couldn't find the box or remote for it. I just got a call (2 weeks later…) that the remote has been found and the unit is working fine. I turned down the sale as I bought another AV system in the mean time.
If anyone wants the $99 Pionner unit there is one in the shop.
