I miss this series, but luckily I've got it on DVD. Ahhh, if only there was more work for puppeteers after this finished, then I could actually make a tidy sum from my skills :/

      Puppetry of the penis?

You worked on Farscape? If you have any candid nudes of Claudia Black please email me ASAP. I pay cash money.

  • Awesome. I've been waiting for it to come down in price.

  • Cheers mate, been waiting for this to come down again. bought like a bastard.

  • What's the point in a blu-ray release when it's just a standard definition upscaled to HD. They would have got the same effect with a DVD used on an upscaling DVD or blu-ray player.

    • Depends on if it's purely algorithmic (and the same quality of algorithms - they can run it through stuff that has access to more resources than what's in your dvd player) or if they do manual work as well.

It could, as you imply, also be all bollocks.

      • The source it was produced from is still standard definition. Not as if they can make that real HD. It would be like watching a standard definition tv show on a HD tv channel. It's just a false HD and all you're watching is an upscaled SD.

        • You wont get more detail but what's there may look better.

Upscaled SD broadcast sucks. It's done on the cheap. It has to do the upscaling between each frame so it's not going to spend time on niceties.

In making this they would've had access to hardware and software that could take it's time getting things looking spiffy. ie. slower than real-time processing of the frames.

It should also be noted that at least season 1 on dvd was rendered with sub-par bitrates. There are places where it is visibly horrible.
