amaysim $40.00 Starter Sim Pack $18.00 @ Officeworks (+ Del, Online Only) & Woolworths (In Store)

Posting this because it can be activated on the 365 Day "Pay As You Go" Plan & will give you $40 credit.
Spotted in the Woolworths Cattledog.

The PAYG plan is handy if you want to park your number or need a phone for mainly receiving calls with data turned off.
Also I think Amaysim works overseas for receiving SMS (please comment if you know for sure).

    Optus, lol.

    • I know right haha. Life goes on I guess.

    • +7

Maybe Optus should be the first bullet point so people stop reading after that lol

  • Yeah… and amysim only giving extra 60gb out of 200 optus giving away ?? …

    • +2

Best not to turn on data if using the PAYG plan, it will chew through your credit.

      • not if they have nation wide outages i guess, definately a pro in that!

      • So no compensation data for the payg plan?

        • I got an email telling me that I have unlimited calls and text until the end of the year. No data

          • @Johnsickboy: haha.. and end of year is like 1.5 months away. they are really that bad huh

  • +2

can confirm Amaysim is useful overseas, got SMS in SEAsia last month

    • +3

At least it works OS as it doesn't work at all in Australia at times ;)

      • +1

It didn't even roaming was knocked out.

        • Can confirm too lol yea roaming didn't work on the day of the Optus outage

But otherwise, another data point confirming that Amaysim does indeed have roaming enabled

    • What was your roaming charge?

      • +1

Amaysim have 365 day roaming packs but to receive SMS it is free.

        • its free to receive the SMS during roaming, for all providers. whats special about amaysim. infact, with Telstra/Boost, if you connect to a wifi, you can call back to Australia for free.
Moreover, you can make profit buying and activating the boost sim.

          • @shanlee: Did Boost finally brought back their roaming?

Also, those packs are just 28 days expiry vs 365 days, and boost roaming packs are very stingy with expiry compared to amay as well.

  • So do you mean I can use this to recharge another PAYG plan that I currently have? i.e. paying $18 for a $40 credit recharge without the need to use the SIM the comes with it?

    • +1

No, this is not a recharge voucher, but a starter kit, so there is no way to use this to recharge an existing service (you would need to port out and back in as a new customer).
Credit is attached to the SIM like most starter kits.

      • Thanks, the OP's comment: "Posting this because it can be used on the 365 Day "Pay As You Go" Plan & will give you $40 credit." had me confused.

In that case, it's useless to me then.

        • Yea not an incorrect description, although it could be clearer by saying:

Posting this because it can be activated on the 365 Day "Pay As You Go" Plan as a new service (not a recharge voucher) & will give you $40 credit.

    Amaysim is the worst IMO.
    - They overcharged me on an occasion where I used credits
    - recharged a line to find out the very next day that my credits disappeared
    - CS kept on telling me my line has been deactivated for 5 months although i was calling from it to speak with them (had 3 months left to expiry as well)
    - It also takes them forever to port a number from non Optus carriers (1+ days)
    -Optus network as well

    • How did the overcharge when it's prepaid?

      • Recharged $10 , invoice shows I paid $8 and $2 are in credits. I go check my bank acct and I see a $10 charge from them and it’s not even pending

        • This happened to me as well, trying to find another carrier/telco/mvno which offer annual text and call only options

    • +1

I can't agree more than what you said. Amaysim is worst in terms of service, mobile coverage, slow 4g speeds compared to Boost. Also no 5G on Amaysim compared to Boost.

I am regretting my move to Amaysim, never and ever I will choose Floptus or Vodafail network.

      • +1

Telstrafail is really bad too. I had to file a complaint with the TIO twice because they overcharged me & didn't fix it after wasting time on the phone to them.

        • +1

I guess all Telco's are much of the same.

    • I left amaysim about 5 years ago

      • +10

        thanks for letting us know.

      • It also takes them forever to port a number from non Optus carriers (1+ days)

This does not agree with my experience. This year I have done 3 ports to Amaysim (all from Belong, which is Telstra carrier) and all completed in one hour or less. (This was the time from when I clicked on "start number transfer" in the activation process to when the number was working on the new SIM.)

  • +5

Did a port in-out of Amaysim, and the port in went completely pear-shaped at their end. It took multiple calls and chats to get anyone to understand the issue, I had to invoke "I'm going to the TIO" to get someone to sort it out. The port back out to Telstra worked fine - and then Telstra muffed the switch from physical SIM to eSIM.

n=1 however not a fun day.

TL;DR? Telcos are sh!te, MVNOs are a special version of sh!te…

Post outage episode, my data speeds increased in multiple locations which were dead slow previously

  • +2

Just wanted to mention this is also $18 on Amazon (I bought with discounted gift cards) and the $40 PAYG credit can then be used for a 12 month plan, just have to pay the difference.

    • How do you use payg credit for 12 months prepaid. Is there a selection on activation?

      • +1

Once you are on the PAYG plan you download the app and you can switch to the 12 month plans. It will take into account your PAYG credit and you only pay the difference.

  • Is this the black friday deal that we have been waiting for?

    • +1

I'm waiting for Black Friday's $60 or $100 yearly plans. Don't know whether its there this year

      • +1

        Me 2

      • They have different yearly plans now so I don't think we'll see them.

  • Daughter has I believe a locked optus phone is this deal any good I want ongoing use of her phone but cheap

    • She will want data so the PAYG plan isn't good for that. Read the description for rates.

  • The PAYG plan is handy if you want to park your number or need a phone for mainly receiving calls with data turned off.

If this is the only objective of the purchaser, better off just purchasing the $10 Amaysim starter kit cause it's $8 (or $30, without discounts) cheaper and it can still receive calls/SMS while parking a number for 365 days+

    • hmm but paying extra $10 for getting $30 is not bad. there are few rare case that i got sms and i have to reply yes/no.
      that will cost 12c each

      • +1

Yea I'm not saying it's bad. I agree paying extra $8 for an extra $30 is pretty good value either way.

I'm just pointing out another option if you know you don't need it for anything other than receiving calls/SMS/parking

e.g. me, I live overseas. Roaming usage no longer gets deducted from the credit (which is annoying) - so for me my objective is "find the cheapest way to park a number"

    • Amay is the best for parking numbers these days, or getting additional numbers for sign ups.

Aldi's starter is only 30 days (or was it 60 days) expiry now, no more 365 days for the $5 starter sims :(

      • Yea I was just looking at this because I recall someone saying here that Aldi had changed. I used to use them to park numbers for $5 for 365 days.

        So it's now:
        * $5 for 60 days
        * PAYG top ups last 365 days (cheapest top up is $15)

So you could say it's $20 for 425 days. Amaysim FTW then

        • I'm on aldi, works fine. Sadly they don't support esim, which makes number parking a bit of a pain, juggling physical sims

I think I'm going to switch, chuck my bank/service number on an amaysim esim. and have something that I can easily activate if I want to, and take advantage of cheap physical sims for day to day sruff

  • Does anyone know if it can be converted to eSIM?

    • It can. You just request a replacement via the portal

    • Yes, you can choose esim during activation itself, which is what I did

  • if this was only using non optus network, i would def buy this as backup internet

  • With Amaysim, can you buy the 28-day sim plan, and just before it expires, change to the $10 365-day pay as you go plan?

  • Anyone got an idea of what expiry dates are on these sims? Might be worth parking one in the draw in anticipation of porting out my 365 day Catch plan when it expires in April.

  • Just fyi, it's free delivery from Officeworks if you have one pass

  • This deal is still on at Woolworths, just picked one up with the 10% monthly discount. Will be using it for the $60/year call and text only plan, total cost is only $18+$20=$38. Better than just parking the number for $10 for my needs.

  • this is a good travel SIM too. the credit can be used to buy the $25 2gb/365 days international roaming plan.

  • If this is used for the $10 365-day plan, what happens to the remaining $30 credits? Does the remaining $30 expire in 365 days too?
