I guess if you work and you need to use extra monitor during your trip. Those type of use cases maybe
Second screen for a laptop, good for putting in a laptop bag and carrying with you. Then when you get to your office or home, you can pull it out and have a dual monitor setup. If you don't need it at a coffee shop or something you can keep it in the bag and just use your laptop like normal.
The other one is if you have a SFF PC/Mini-PC, you can essentially take this with you as a screen, using the PC a bit like a laptop. Good for going between two locations where you have a desk setup already, i.e work or home or between home and a motel. You might ask "why not just use a laptop?". Laptops are very good don't get me wrong, but aren't like a SFF PC where you can upgrade every component or replace them over time, so this type of setup gives you modularity while still being semi portable. Screen goes? Replace it. Old CPU? Buy a new mobo and CPU and slot it into your case. Main downsides are size, SFF cases are still big compared to a laptop and you need access to power and ample desk space.
When I was at school last year, I had a friend of mine who has to go between his divorced parents homes, he bought one of these portable monitors and that way he could take his PC between his mum and dad's house without having to shell out for a second screen, he could just put this screen in a bag and put it in the boot of the car with his PC.
I've also seen people have like semi portable Xbox/PS5 setups with this where they buy a bag like this and they have the screen and just take it with them.
Generally these are good secondary screens. They're also pretty cheap versus an actual monitor, but yeah smaller, not ideal for regular use imo beyond as a second laptop screen.
in the market right now, seems handy for taking to uni. hard to take notes while also watching a recorded lecture simultaneously.
If you want to search for a touch one.
There's an Aussie company selling these, but the the price is crazy $500 for 1080 https://au.espres.so/products/espressodisplays
When travelling is great to have a second screen
As a field service technician, I've considered one. It would be handy to have a second screen to view the status of multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously.
I imagine it will also saves you the hassle of needing to sshing into particular headless devices sometimes as well. Why wait for someone to tell you the password when you can simply just plug a screen in.
Haha… At first I read this as ssshing (as in be quiet), then realised S S H ing . Duh!
I just got the monitor this morning. I bought it mainly for my work while travelling. Overall, it is OK for the price. I didn't bother to check dead/bright pixels. Build quality is OK. There is a scratch on the bezel. The display quality is OK and fits my needs.
I have 2x 13 inches that broke previously, and i just bought another 16 inch touch recently.
usually used as third monitor under the main monitor. Way more comfortable than swiveling head to left for YouTube videos and guides, and if you get touch, easy scrolling, YouTube control and documents navigation as well.
portable monitor to use for watching stuff. Way larger than the 10 inch screen on my gpd win max 2 lol. Also Pretty useful when lying in bed with your partner and rather than trying to both look at your laptop screen, you can just extend and let her see the other screen.
portable monitor for pc tinkering. Once a while, I'll get a free office fleet pc cause my tradie friends will just have some and I'll take them. In those cases, way better than unplugging my monitors to test them.
- switch and xbox gaming outside of my house. I only ever needed to do this once in a hotel, but it came in clutch cause 4 of us felt like staying up after a disappointing ball night.
A mate of mine uses a 14 inch version when he travels. Plugs it into his Samsung android phone to use Photoshop and also play movies on it when he flies. Smaller and lighter than a laptop, especially charger
I used to work major events, and be on sites for weeks at a time trying to co-ordinate small (profanity) armies. Spreadsheets, emails, rosters, etc off the laptop, beautiful. Slimline so it fit in the same bag.
Anything basic just to connect to my NVR to display my security cameras?
Thinking this size but just 1080 will be plenty, needs HDMI input
Display will sit in my rack
If you don't mind it being a screen just under 10" in size, try searching Aliexpress for "2048x1536 monitor".
They're made from old iPad retina displays, thus they're cheap, look fantastic, and have extremely low latency. The latter point combined with the 4:3 aspect ratio makes them particularly great for retro gaming/emulation (not sure if any sellers in particular have them on sale, but pre-assembled units can probably be bought from less than $100 delivered- however if you can harvest the LCD from somewhere you can also just buy the driver-board, then maybe 3D print a case yourself eg. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4721767 )
When need to play Nintendo switch at places without tv
Would have loved a monitor with vesa
Waiting for the 13” 4K AMOLED Touchscreen portable monitor to go on sale…
Any good deals for smaller size 14 or 15?
I bought the non touch one of these but it has not arrived yet.
14" and no case. But decent spec for my use and only $95.
would this look ok for a ps5?
Non-standard res, so it will need to scale, meaning it will not be as crisp. Possibly still good, though.
Are these capable of being powered from a laptop? without a separate power supply?
Yes, but some features may be inaccessible such as HDR and higher refresh rate.
This thing is awesome. I can't get mine to output 144hz over USB-C from my steam deck though.
anyone had any luck?
How does it compare with this 18.5 inch? Thinking of buying one of these to use with a nuc/Switch/XBX.
Bought before this deal. When hooked into macOS and iPadOS it will default to 16:9 with a bit of letterboxing. I can make use of the full screen by selecting one of the 16:10 resolution in the OS settings + set the monitor to 16:10 instead of Auto. On iPad and Switch, there is no manual option so if you're buying this mainly for a device that only output 16:9, this will just add bulk.
What would these be like to mild gaming? I do use my laptop for gaming when out and about, thought the laptop screen is pretty slow
Thought would share this portable monitor if anyone is interested.

144hz, touchscreen, HDR, Free sync, 2.5k, also got a bunch of USB-C and USB-A ports on the side which is really neat. Got this down to $268 which is not the best price but it's acceptable considering how much other sellers are charging for similar specs.
Can this thing powered by laptop or it requires dedicated external power source? Mainly going to be using it with my work laptop.
Seems like it's a simple USB-C plug and play according to this video.
What a Bimawen! Why not Monkey King? Lol…
I think this could be a great choice for my traning bike, connecting with Google TV.
Thanks OPis it worth going for $230 approx for WAIWEI 16 Inch 4K Portable Monitor 3840*2400 60Hz, not looking for gameing thought

Just curious, what sorts of use cases do people typically have for something like this?
