Within $5 of historical low.
It's not a cheap monitor, but it is very nice. High refresh rate OLED monitor for true HDR gaming. No it's not a bang for buck monitor.

    Historical low was $249.

    • Don't remind me :(

    • +24

It wasn't for this… It was for AW38.

      • Duh… My bad. Bad memories

        • +13

          Don't feel bad my son.

          • +8

@MS Paint: Too late dad. You abandoned me when I needed you the most.

PS: can I still give you a hug?

      • which i ended up getting for 1.5k once.

I couldnt reccomend it for people on a budget, but i had just unlocked an AWP fade on Counterstrike, so quick exchange for big ass monitor!

Issue is its so big that games runn slower, like its practically what id refer to as 3k. lol p[erformance takes a hit

    • +10

      @Muzeeb for mvp

    • When? Which one?

  • +8

Great monitor, got one last time it was discounted. Worth every cent.

Amex have a targeted 10% back on Dell (up to $1000).

  • +6

I have this, I love this. Best value purchase I've made in years.

    • is it suitable for office apps from your experience

      • i think general consensus is that OLEDs arent great for productivity. Especially given the chance for burn in

      • Yeah it is suitable, but I'd recommend something cheaper if that's all you're using it for. I use it a lot for gaming and media as well.

There was once where there was slight burn in because i left the monitor on for days, but I used the inbuilt OLED refresh tool and it all went away, thankfully. Made sure to turn it off every night since then.

Should I get this or the AW3423DW when it comes down to $1500 again. Everything seems better with the DWF but it only has native 10bit at 100hz vs 144hz 10bit on DW.

    • Uncertain when it will be down at $1500 again, so buy according to your need. If you need it now use 7% edu discount to further drop the price. Or who knows the 38" might be out by the time the DW goes to $1500.

      • I’m look into for exclusively 34” and OLED primarily for gaming. I’m going to assume that the difference between 8 + dithering and 10 bit in gaming is probably not noticeable.

I reckon $1500 for the DW is bound to happen again though as it’s nearing its product life as Dell are trying to replace it with the DWF. I’ve heard the DW already can’t be purchased in EU counties.

        • you wont see the difference
DWF is better anyway, has anti glare screen coating on top of other things

    • +2

      I would get DW.

    • DW doesn’t have upgradeable firmware which could be a pain if something goes wrong and needs an update

    • I get 10bit at 120hz with a custom resolution setup via Nvidia Control Panel.

    • This for sure, if you can do some googling/redditing - someone has posted some monitoring timings to allow the monitor to do 165hz at 10bit.

      Plus I hear it's quieter…

    • Apparently the DW has an annoyingly loud fan, which would be a dealbreaker for me.

      • +2

I have the DW version 1.6 never ever heard the fan…

        • Some people like myself are hyper sensitive to noise that normies wouldn't notice.

          • @haru: Well a ceiling fan or desktop fan will be louder than this…

      • +1

Yeah that's a myth. You'll hear your desktop fans over anything else, or at least I do

    • Just go with the DWF. The only difference is Adaptive Sync vs G-Sync Ultimate. G-Sync is nvidias proprietary system where as Adaptive Sync is a standard made by VESA. Most are saying Adaptive Sync is better because it comes with the ability to update the firmware. Hardware Unboxed has some videos comparing the two.

      • +2

The DWF has problems with HDR that still haven’t full been fixed with firmware updates.

I never had any issues with the fan when I had one

        • +2

no issue with hdr, that was fixed ages ago and you had a workaround

        • Last update fixed the HDR , HUB did a video on it

        • Incorrect. Again watch hardware unboxed most recent video on the monitor. All issues have been fixed with the firmware updates.

    • Worth if when it comes down to $1500 as I went to JB price matched then used the TCN GC when they had 15% off

    • lol successfully gaslit by nvidia and amd like tech isn't the most deflationary force in the world by a few light years. these will drop like a rock once the chinese oleds come online.

    • I have the DW. Have had it for over a year now. Replaced 3 times and finally got an amazing one with the latest Firmware version MB105. Packaging was much better than the last, screen is perfection, no more bugs with the new version. The DWF does not have the GSync ultimate module.

  • +3

The 7% Edu discount works on this!

  • +1

Hope they have ultra-wide with 32" 16:9 UHD height.

    • Almost the 38" 21:9. 38" is a tiny bit shorter. Wish they had more 38" options available as it looks like the perfect size for me…

40" 21:9 would be the same height as a 32".

      • I upgraded from FHD 34" 21:9 to UHD 32" 16:9, first reason 4K, second reason was because the height of the 34" is a bit too short but ultra-wide is good for gaming.

        • Yeah I'm looking at 32" because I want that bit of extra height, but would also like ultrawide rather than 16:9, similar boat to you.

Only viable option looks like Acer Nitro XR383CUR @ $1450. Wish there were more options…

Considering just getting a 32" 16:9 or maybe even a 43" C3 if there's a good black friday special where it gets near $1K like the C2 did.

          • +1

            @bleeder: Now I have 32" UHD + 24" 16:10 portrait mode next to it.

  • Great monitor for a great price, got one recently

  • +2

I have the Samsung G8 OLED, which apparently is the same Panel. I can't fault it… I run it at 175hz @ 10bit. Best monitor I've ever owned. My 4k 144hz IPS is now sitting collecting dust lol

*I would have definitely purchased this if I didn't get my Samsung. Good deal.

    • I have this saved to buy but seems like they’ve got issues with amd gpu which I have and not looking forward to dealing with the issues it’s got.

      • Yep it only has peak brightness to 400 nits in HDR on AMD and HUB has confirmed this. Stay away and get the DWF since It's been 8 months and these issues are still present on the G8.

I'm on Nvidia and just got the DWF delivered but I am considering returning it and getting the G8 through a retailer but I am a little unsure about the burn in warranty… seems the ACL might have to be relied on if Samsung doesn't honour it under their warranty. I much prefer the G8's design and processing hardware

        • That’s definitely the selling point for me to get the to go with the dwf instead of the g8. Design wise the g8 definitely hands down better looking in my opinion but riddles with issues using amd gpu.

If Samsung came out with an update to fix the issues I would have jumped on it in a heart beat but not sticking around for that. Samsung only offers 1 year of warranty compare to the Alienware so that is a bonus is guess

          • @c1mple: The new firmware update allows up to 1000 nits. I calibrated through windows 11 (via windows HDR calibration app) and can confirm peaking at 1000 nits in latest title MW3 with HDR10+. I am on a RTX 3080, so sorry can't tell you how the AMD cards will perform.

Main reason why I got the G8 over the Alienware (DW & DWF) is because the G8 can actually hit 10 bit color at 175hz with g sync (capability). However, people will tell you that you won't notice the difference in game.

            • @Ceejay: Did Samsung come out with a new firmware update ? I swear I looked everywhere online to find out but to no avail information on it and from what I could see the G8 is still having issues with amd gpu.

    cmoooooon muzeeb

  • Thanks for posting. But was (should still?) holding for a better BF/CM than this. Am I expecting too much?! ha.

  • +4

    I’ve missed Muzeeb

    • +1

      The feeling is mutual.

  • +2

This, or a 42" LG C3 when it dips below $2000?

    • +5

you mean below $1k like the C2 did ;-) ?

    • this, 42" is too big for PC use imo.

      • if got the desk real estate (depth) and space, they say 42 is more immersive….

        • Exactly, I've got a 1800x700mm (+300mm for keyboard tray= 1m viewing distance) desk and it's perfect. I even have a second monitor a bit forward of my shoulder on the flank for even more space.

      • It's only slightly wider than this monitor.

If I get a 42" it will be used on a monitor arm at a reasonable distance away. I'm more concerned about the TV-ness of it, and the fact that I can't really run games at 4K at good framerates.

        • -1

1440p on your current monitor < 1440p upscaled with DLSS to a 4k OLED

      • +1

If you have a wide enough desk so you can sit further away then it's all good.

      • +1

I thought that. Before I got the 42inch OLED, now it seems normal.

      • +1

I grabbed a 48" C3 a few weeks ago for ~$1,500 at JB (was priced lower than the 42"), and while I'm concerned that it will be too big, I'm looking forward to setting it up when I get the chance.
Desk depth will be the decider.
Currently have 2x 32" M32U and a 27" Dell 22QC, so looking forward to the comparison.

    • +1

This or wait for 32 inch QD’s next year, had a WOLED and have since switched my tv and monitor to QD Oled, it’s a lot better in brightness/Color volume

      • +1

If you have a tight budget, get this.

I had a DW for 1 year and returned it (great display qulity IMO just lacking some features eg DP-alt mode, hdmi 2.1, PIP/PBP). I would wait for next year's Gen2 panel plus some new features

    • Got my C2 when it was $995 ;)) best monitor ever

    • +1

You can probably snag one for around $1300 this Black Friday/Xmas. I have the 48" and it is way better than most OLED monitors out there in terms of brightness and image processing.

    • +1

42c2 is like a 38 inch monitor when u turn off the lights if u change resolution to 21:9. But can be a 4k monitor for your console or for productivity. I vote the 42 inch.

  • +1

Should one hold?! Is Dell just trying to snatch our pre-BF dollars?

  • Just got it with the 7% student discount. Cheers OP

  • +1

    Black Friday sales maybe cheaper?

  • +1

Can absolutely vouch for dell oled’s, had an issue with it and they sent a replacement that arrived the next day, very likely you’ll be able to claim the oled burn in warranty after 3 years and get something new

  • +1

Also a note to anyone that the Philips Evnia equivalent to this is cheaper at $1399 and has been so for the last month plus

    • +1

No burn in warranty for that one, just pay the extra

      • +1

There’s burn in warranty for all screens here in Australia, I’ve not seen a claim denied once (and I’ve had both one of these and a LG TV replaced)

  • +5

    Honestly guys

QDOLED gen 2 panels are now filtering down, they posses a 35 percent less chance of screen artifacting and image rentention due to a better thermal disperal buffer layer

    This is GOOD panel.

But apparantly according to testing, after 3 months 7.2 percent of panels can show image retention from daily use after 6 months it's 12 percent and rises from there

I'd wait,if ur panels good now, then there will be just as good deals after jan

CES 2024 is on in jan

all the new panels will come out then, and they will want to flush the old stock from the supply chain…so deals affot

    • +1

Yes these will likely push the 34 DWF and DW models down in $$$

      • +2

        240hz 4k is so stupid

We barely can get a 60FPS in some games at 4k let alone 144hz on a 4090..

        • Ha yep agree, trying to snab early adopter $$ “future proofing” punters

Will be late 2024/25 before we see 50xx cards!

          • @gazer: even then it's still what 4nm/maybe 3nm

The jumps only gonna be 20-25 percent on the node.

            4k 144Hz ultra is not going to be a thing,let alone 240..

UE5 is the most dominant game enggine on earth, and it runs like shit at Hi res.

    • +1

There will always be something better around the corner.

    • they will want to flush the old stock from the supply chain…so deals affot

Has this happened in previous years? Do you know of any past deals here as examples?

  • Just tried generating a code using a know company and got the 7% code in the next screen. Discount did work so technically don't need to work for them as code not emailed.

  • +6

I used the AUAFFILIATES5% code and funny enough it still works and got it down to $1356.45.

    • I tried the code with the 32" UHD, it gave me $1 discount XD

    • Yep code works - outstanding!

    • Can that stack with the 7% student discount?

  • +1

If a man in his early 50s. Who is frugal but has some means… A man who is probably past playing FPS but has been looking at a new monitor for several weeks… Who couldn't pull the trigger on that monitor because of low refresh rate….

    Namely this monitor: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0B7R2S1SP/?coliid=I2IGM8MM1CM4…

Should this Dell product turn his head and ease his mid life monitor crisis? Or is there something in-between?

    • +4

Do it. mid life crisis monitor here we come

      • Damn you!
