SVS SB-3000 Subwoofer (Black Ash) $1799 Shipped (and Other SVS) @ Westcoast Hifi

490

Noticed some good deals (30% off) on SVS subwoofers while browsing Westcoast Hifi this afternoon. Presumably part of their Black Friday sales. 30% is pretty much as good as it gets for SVS and from a quick search these are the cheapest ever on Ozbargain (for the Pro models).

SB-3000 is $1799, down from $2599. Looks like it's the Black Ash finish is only available here (everywhere else seems to be OOS).

Edit: Looks like the SB-3000 is out of stock. Might be available for back order but says to contact to buy.

Also have:
PB-1000 Pro for $1199 (down from $1749)
SB-1000 Pro for $929 (down from $1349)
SB-3000 Micro for $1299 (from $1899) - I'm actually really interested in hearing the Micro, as even though it's nice and small it reviews well.

BROAD STROKES: PB (ported box) for movies, SB (sealed box) for music. But I'm currently using an SB-2000 (non-pro) for movies and it is great. I previously had a PB-1000 (non-pro) which was great, too.

Since these are pro models, remember the app with which you can (somewhat) tune the frequency response iOS Android

Time to annoy the neighbours!

Looks like some of the SVS speakers are on heavy discount, too.
Ultra Towers are $3639 (from $5199)
Ultra Bookshelves are $1679 (from $2399)
Ultra Centre is $1149 (from $1649) - True 3 way centre - so pretty pretty good.

I haven't personally heard the Ultra speaker range. I've heard they are great for home theatre, though.

Worth a look at the whole SVS category. There seems to be sales on most of their products.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2023

  • I've not heard these personally; anyone ever demo'd them compared to REL subs?
I've not heard anything tighter than an REL T/5x.

    • +1

Tight I am not sure, but they are pumped for sure. (Owner of Sb 1000pro)

      • +3

I'm using 2x PB-1000 Pro and they have been awesome.

      • +1

Can only imagine how good a SB-3000 sounds given how much my SB-1000 has improved my setup.

        • In the same boat here, the sb-1000 made a world of difference to just having bookshelf speakers.
I think the sb-3000 would probably make my neighbours hate me

    • +2

REL are great but not much beats SVS for low & volume for the price

    • +3

The general consensus seems to be that you need to pay a lot more for REL to match SVS performance (but that when you do they offer nice and tight bass). HOWEVER, that's made up of American opinions (in other words, based on American prices, which for big beefy subs are way different than in Aus).

      • +3

Yeah I used to sell REL (no longer do, no conflict here) and I only sold them because of how genuinely mind blowing their performance was.
Anything I wanted boomier was almost exclusively M&K.

I'll make an effort to demo some SVS :)

        Thanks!

    • I have T9x, my friend who has Sb2000 Pro enjoyed REL more, I could tell as he started jumping out of the sofa. I also had dual T9x but had to send one back due to an issue. Rel is good but even REL's internals are cheap. It's not the Holly grail of subs.

      • Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t the T9x be more of a competitor to the SB3000?

        • T9x is a 300w RMS sub, 10" driver with passive radiator
          Sb3000 is whooping 800w RMA, 13inch driver

          Sb2000 500w

          Edit

          Just a quick google searches.

Tbh svs compare with REL 's lower end HT line.

          • @sqheaven: I see. But price wise T9x matches the sb3000?

            • @Morien: Rel T9x around 2599
SVS sb3000 is also around 1949 lowest from Google

If you ask me, if your preference is 70 to 80% music and very little movie watching, then demo a REL T9x or any S line sub. They're fast subwoofers, can't go louder but they blend in so well and bring out depth in the recordings. Demo and then decide.

You could be someone who likes to listen above 85db levels. Then you'll need ultra towers and sb series subs :)

              • @sqheaven: Cool. I’ll have to listen to them sometime. (Btw, lowest svs sb3000 is the one in this post - $1799)

                • -1

@Morien: This is micro, I think the Sb3000 and micro are different enclosure

                  • @sqheaven: No, I mentioned the Micro in the body of the post (that's going for $1299). The main link is the standard sb3000 which is going for $1799.

Still rocking my SVS PB12-NSD from 2013, would not hesitate to recommend.

    • I had 4 once upon a time, only have 2 now though

  • +2

Looks like all/most of the SVS range is on special, the Prime Elevations are a great Atmos speaker, Ash Black for only $599.00 https://www.westcoasthifi.com.au/shop/speakers/height-module…

Their centre speakers - Ultra and Prime are a true 3 way, which is what you want in a centre speaker, and have fantastic reviews.

    • Good pickup. In the Yamaha deal from this morning I alerted someone to height module speakers. Picked one at random, but the Prime is a good buy!

  • +2

Still pissed that my 2x PC-4000 sub order got cancelled by a different shop. Im guessing we will never see that deal come up again :(

    • +1

I'd seriously consider that deal myself, my wife would absolutely hate them but it's always better to ask for forgiveness than permission :P

    • +1

Hell of a deal, that one. I doubt it will ever come back. Velodyne (Australian distributor) had an excess of stock (things were massive). Don't think I have seen the PC-4000 in stock anywhere since (just "available to order"), so they must have learned their lesson on inventory levels.

  • Would love to pick up an SB-1000 (or 2) pro for $848 like last year.

At that price though, I wonder how 2 of those would compare to a single SB-3000…

Currently have a kef r400b and while it does a good job for movies, the HT is in quite an open room and I feel like i need to pressurise the room better. I did move the sub from near the tv to behind the couch in a corner and feel like it has improced the experience quite a bit, but I've just got a feeling another sub would go a long way (and at that point I'd want two of the same sub).

    • +2

Yeah, dual subs are always a better option than one. But without getting lucky (and spending hours using REW, including a minidsp, and spending hours doing a sub crawl) identical are necessary.

      • Thanks. I've seen REW (in many contexts) and minidsp mentioned quite a few times now, so i should probably look into them at some point.

        • +1

https://www.decibelhifi.com.au/brand/minidsp/ Is where I bought my minidsp and umik from. Expensive on Amazon and get hit with import costs on the main website.

          • @Morien: I was looking at geting a umik-1. Would it definitely have import duties charged from the main website? Isn't <1k exempt?

            • @B-Moose: I bought late last year, but at the time I remember going local because of some import duties. Maybe I misremember, but compare prices now anyway.

            • @B-Moose: I think that is only for passengers.

  • Damn that must be one good sub… So you guys use these for movies? Or are there other things you want a killer sub for?

    • +1

Other than to practice my bull riding on, what else would they be used for?

Generally 2 identical subs are better than 1 (avoids nulls in the room, which is important so that one listening position doesn't get all boom while the next gets nothing), and the Ported subs are generally better for movies. But these are true sub woofers, sub meaning they go well below hearing levels and to the "feel it in my balls" level.

Cheap subwoofers are only really woofers.

    • Movies and games mainly but some music as well.

  • +1

Would never recommend buying subs new as their value plummets 2nd hand as they’re pretty niche and not portable.

Picked up a sub retailing for a similar price new (around 2.5k) for $500

    • +4

I feel you…I've been keeping an eye out for svs subs on fb and gumtree for about 2 months now and have had no luck so far though :(

      • +6

        And this is the thing.

        IDEALLY buy everything Hi-Fi used.

PRACTICALLY wait a year and half for one to come up and end up missing it by 2 minutes.

    • +4

Yes and no, with these its hard to tell how its lived before but if you can get a deal like you mentioned as long as its not too old sure! i find most people selling decent sound equipment used want the world for it $$ where i may as well buy it new with warranty. You can get lucky though like you mentioned above

    • -2

      dunno about that, I bought a PB2000 for $1039 incl. delivery ;)

  • Would one PB-1000 Pro be enough for a 3.9m x 4.6m (2.7m height) room?

    • +1

Dont know but locked one in for a room 4m x 3.5m and hoping that it doesnt shake the movie poster frames off the walls. Been eyeballing these since release and anything sub $1300 was my trigger!

      • Yeah i've been wanting one for a while, would love to hear your thoughts once you've had a chance to test it out.

    • it would, but so would a $250 Voll…

    • +1

Honestly you'll end up wanting more. The 1000 series is undersized for that room. x2 2000 series or x1 3000 with the long plan of buying a second down the track would be a better option.
Low/moderate volume would be okay, but with the 325 amp you'll start getting clipping and distortion pretty soon if you're turning it up to cinema levels.
It really depends how you plan on using it. It you're coming from no subs at all then this will blow you away.
The Tonewinner subs are new to market, but are well reviewed for around 40% less sticker price.

  • +2

Can't go wrong with SVS, been rocking a SB16 Ultra for a few years and it still scares the crap out of me sometimes.

  • +3

    Fully sick

  • +1

I highly recommend these as an owner for 3 years. Excellent for both music and movies. absolute beast.
Use them with a Denon avr and audessey app is great to tune them even further.

    • Does Audessey calibrate them well enough on it's own, or did you have to play with phase outside of the app to get your great results?

      • Not who you are replying to, but he does mention the app. That does offer a lot more customisation over the standard onboard tuning.
