    Any way to unlock this?

    • +3

      The title says Unlocked.

    • +2

      Try reading the title.

    • +1

Yes easy… you open eyes and read… magically it is then unlocked :)

  • That's amazing!

  • what's the overall feedback for unique mobiles on here?
can anyone share their experience please

    • There is probably some ill will from a pricing error they refused to honor last week, but overall they're ok

      • Probably best to buy Australian stock phones (which this one is) compared to Imported Phones from a warranty point of view.

For Imported Phones, although they offer 12 months warranty, if anything goes wrong, they clearly state the buyer is responsible for postage to send the phone back to them for repairs, which is pretty poor I think.

        • And what happens when a unit from this deal need repairs?

  • 3.5" screen?

    • -1

And 600MHz CPU - this is a pretty basic smart phone.

      • And it supposedly has an RRP of $419.

  • -1

This phone is $181 at DWI, with free shipping…

    • +3

      DWI are borderline scam artists

      • I bought from them once last year and didn't have any problems, got my goods within 1 week.

    • I had a (so far) happy result w/ DWI on a Panasonic Lumix camera order.

      • DWI camera and phone department are on completely different level.

  • -2

this hunk of junk is borderline ancient.

HTC is the real scam artist here selling old crap with a 3'5 screen, slap on a new shell and call it a day.

im really boycotting HTC now days due to them repeating the same ol internals for years! ive had this spec almost 2 years ago for $240 (Zte blade)

    • Entry-level phones… Just don't buy it? How is that boycott worthy?

      • id pay no more than 90$ for this kind of spec, entry phone, not entry price, this is a fair deal at this price but its absurd what it was previously, they really milked the hell out of the Desire name, HTC can pull off some amazing stuff when they wanted to but its very weak game lately, given this spec is mid range almost 2 years ago.

oh yeah go neg all you want and pay your island tax while youre at it, go browse any chinese android phones around $100 and they would run circles around this phone. oh yes warranty and support ofcourse, Apple is that way.

        • I've looked at the Chinese cheapies a few times and always end up frustrated, there's just too many. Are there any in particular that have a good following and custom roms like some of the tablets?

        • find ones that have antutu benchmarks that shows the internal of the phone, you can see the rom date and get one thats the latest, contrary to branded phones, the stock roms of the chinese androids are actually fairly decent because the OEM actually write their own roms for them, so the lack of custom roms doesnt concern it as much, and they actually offer OTA update through settings. Oddly this is just for phones, tablet wise theyre not as great(Ainol)

    • There -are- some signs of disappointment & issues (slowness & browser unable to load page(s)), eg, in readers' comments on this phone ("HTC Desire C" it didn't find the 4th string, when I searched…)

    • i know rite

GIVE US A SGS3 DEAL ALREADY DAMNIT

  • nvm

  • Hi all

Was looking for a basic smartphone for my mum - has to be under $200, ideally $150. I know it is a slim budget but all she will use it for is phone calls (will go vaya - Optus - and lives in country Victoria) SMS, mms and taking and send photos. Screen size, battery life, ease of use is probably the main factors. Any suggestions?

    • Never owned one but I am looking for a htc cha cha from eb games they go between 65 to 56 in price which I reckon is a bargain.
It's out of stock the moment but if you time it right you might get one.

    • I paid $56 for a small (purse-size?) HTC ChaCha… I love it!

Before its SIM arrived, I used it on WiFi… Skype (including our Int'l calls subscription), OzB, eBay app's all seemed to work fine.

Opera & FireFox browsers (as well as Android's own) also fine.

We now use it (via WiFi, again) to record radio shows from around the world &/or fetch podcasts from such places - using "TuneIn Pro"

Not a perfect audio performance, ie, on higher volume levels, but I can move the MP3's to a better player for later listening, after having enjoyed its very small footprint (uses little space on office desk…) while recording / fetching stuff.

Phone & SMS features are easy to use. (It's our first low-end (by discounting…) phone that shows SMSs in an interleaved / conversation format.

PS We got ours in the EB Games OzB Deal. Last time we looked (a while ago), price had gone up to ~$65+ (from memory). Still great value, albeit for a small screened device. (We use a rectangular magnifying glass as a workaround.)

    • $169 - Sony Xperia U from Crazy Johns (unlocked). Dual Core CPU & Mali400MP so you know 1080p mkv playback is fine. The Crazy Johns version is 850Mhz/2100Mhz… so won't work on 900Mhz. Slower than Galaxy SII, but should be quicker than Tegra 2.

      • Thanks for the replies - how do I know which MHz phone to look for? They are going to be using an Optus reseller, primarily in the worouhly (Wangaratta) region of Victoria. Cheers

        • Go to: http://www.optus.com.au/home/mobile-phone/coverage/

Enter the post code and then choose 3G Single Band. If the area has coverage, you could get Sony Xperia U. However, if the area is only covered in 3G Dual Band, then you should avoid Sony Xperia U from Crazy Johns. There might be a version that supports 2100/900Mhz. At the moment, there is no prepaid phone from Optus in the sub-$200 worth getting.

      • It has 8gb of internal but has on the go functionality so you can use that to access other files quite well. The RAM is the only sad thing really.

  • How come no one foams at the mouth when unique mobiles quote RRP?

It appears that these phones usually sell for around $220, obviously nowhere near
RRP of $419. I don't really care either way, just wondering why no ones having the usual big cry about it. : )

    • Probably a wake up to all the RRP total BS these days?

      • Advice to Vendors (from fictional Vendor Peak Body):

"To give the impression of a greater discount, quote the highest RRP you can find."

PS Maybe the -makers- should be held up to scrutiny, here, as many of them show [inflated] RRP's on -their- web sites…

Can you blame Vendors for clinging to such fantasies, when advertising products?

(Yes: OzB could insist that RRP's be accompanied by Year & Month of release date in AU, so we could discount the RRP, for our own purposes, based on the age of the item.)

  • Hi Rep,

Can you do the same price on the non-Next G version (ie. the imported version)?

    • What would the advantage be to that version, at same price?

Eg, what do you do when on holiday in (or if you're ever posted to) a "Next G only" location?

  • +1

At this price, $169, the phone to get for now might be Sony Xperia U (from CJ, unlocked, 850Mhz, 2100Mhz version). Xperia U is a dual core phone, the GPU is capable of playing 1080p mkv (and the CPU is slightly faster than Tegra 2). Xperia U does not have micro SD slot, which means it is limited to 2GB (internal phone memory) + 4GB (internal SD).

At $169… a dual core phone is a better option I reckon.

    • Yeah, as Sharp said below, I also see $179

      • Sorry.. it is $179. Hm… now I am not sure it is a good deal. I think $179 for a branded dual core phone is okay for now. It is $179 for this phone (shipped) vs $169 + shipping for Desire C.

        • Well considering I was going to get the Xperia U from JB for $200, and then seeing it for $179 from CJ which is also my network. Still a good deal in my books! DSE has it for $277. Thanks!

  • For entry level, I'd rather get an Xperia U for about $199 at local phone shops. It has a much better screen and a 1ghz dual core cpu.
