I bought this first instead of trying it out.
Found it so hard and tedious, especially with sampling music.
My DAW of choice is Maschine tho and i found it alot easier and quicker to sample. Even Logic Pro and Studio One were easy to navigate also.

    • Wonder if they'll have black friday specials for Studio One upgrades.

    • What hardware do you use to run Maschine? I have some pocket money saved and thinking of investing in one of the NI hardware bits, but they never seem to go on sale

      • I bought the mk3.
Its cheaper since its not standalone and you plug it into ur computer.
Its getting old now. Id imagine its time for a refresh mk4 or something

just leaving this comment here as a contrast to @minatosensei 's.

Fl Studio to me is the core heart of my music production process. I love chopping samples both in playlist and even through more traditional chops. The midi and effects process is also now innate to me, however this doesn't mean that everyone should or would share this experience. I encourage people to try the trial first and see if FL is for you first, but it isn't innately unintuitive, just a different process then other DAW's.

    Everyone has their process yknow?

    • do one really need the producer version or playlist is or not in basic version?

      • It has more features and plugins over the basic. The question is will you use them

with the newest update fruity edition now has access to 4 audio tracks in the playlist. If you think you'll have more then four I would recommend getting producer. Also vsts I guess but you can get free replacement vsts

Exactly im just stating my experiences. I know for a fact fl studio is good, but the workflow didnt work for me.
Im too used to the others.
Just choose what workflow suits you best in the end

  • okay so it looks like $149 is the normal price for the basic edition, its only the three other editions that are discounted: https://support.image-line.com/jshop/shop.php

Was going to say this, the $149 is not a deal, it's the Producer/Signature/All Plugins editions that are discounted.

The Fruity edition or "basic" edition as most of my producer friends like to call it is VERY limited with what you can do.
You would be much better off getting a higher tier once you really get into producing.

See here for the actual discounts. Keep in mind, prices are in USD, will switch to AUD after adding to cart (see original link in post for more info)

Can also get student edition (signature) for 199USD

I have done this successfully while I was at uni, but make sure you're happy that you satisfy all the requirements before purchasing.

be warned that this doesnt give you a commercial license if you care about that. Its another 50 USD to upgrade it to allow that.

  • Can vouch for FL studio. Lifetime free version upgrades is pretty fantastic. A mate bought version 2 way back and has been upgraded for free throughout the years to the current version, 21. Not many software providers do that.
Of course there are free DAWs out there too for the hardcore ozbargainer.

  • Is this worth the money?
i will not use this often, but I will be making some music occasionaly for my videos with this. im also not expert at making music tho.

im considering at least Producer version one, as Fruity one is too limited.

    • UA's LUNA is free for mac now.
