Nexus 7 16GB $296 from HN - Last Day to Get $25 Credit Today (30/09/2012)

92

I know this deal is not quite as good as from Kogan (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80925), but today (30/09/12) is the last day to get the $25 Play credit.

So if you value the $25 credit its $3 more than Kogan and you get:

Bricks and Mortar Retailers for warranty
AU Stock (Asus offer international warranty UNLESS you get it from certain countries, so if you recived from Kogan say a Central and South America product you won't get international warranty)

So if you want your tablet today I would suggest price matching this to Office Works or if you can price match the Kogan deal (but I have trouble with this in the past with non-AU stock).

Just activated mine and confirm got:

$25 Google Play Credit
Movie: Transformers Dark side of the Moon
Books: The Three Musketeers - Aleexandre Dumas
Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll
The Drop - Michael Connelly
Treasure Island - Robert Louis Stevenson

Considering that several people (including myself) have been able to price match the Kogan deal at OfficeWorks for $254.60, this is not a good deal.

    • +1

True, but I have had trouble in the past with them matching grey-imports (claiming its not identical becuase its not AU-stock ect).

    • Also it seems a lot of people cannot price match the kogan deal like you (see Kogan thread).

  • -7

    no deal

    • +1

You know you actually have to back-up your neg with reasons, right?

      • -6

No words are required for most people to know that this is not a deal.

  • +3

Knowing that this deal is not good and still posting it anyway? Neg.

    • Well i dunno if it is that much worse, assuming u value $25 voucher its only a few dollars than the kogan deal and you get it now, and have the advantage of a bricks and mortar retailer for warranty and get AU stock (which isn't a huge deal assuming you get stock from kogan that comes from an international warranty dealer).

    • This isn't the first deal to run along those lines, and others have been received better than this. Guess it's only a good deal if it's popular enough, eh?

Besides, some people just don't want to order from grey-importers, myself included.

    Kogan: $268
    HN: $296

    Difference: $28
    Credit: $25

    Savings: -$3

    Neg.

    • +11

      Savings: -$3…

      Kogan Pros:
      * Price

      HN Pros:
      * The benefits of a brick-and-mortar store
      * AU stock
      * Google warranty

IMO, Australian stock and a non-Kogan warranty are worth $3

      • -5

That makes it of interest. It's still not a bargain. There's a difference between those two things.

        • +3

True, but as I stated above, many deals that could be described as such, are allowed to pass, solely because they are popular. It's a grey area. In a perfect world, I would prefer this to be posted in the forums. shrug

    • +1

Buahaha. A -$3 savings is a bargain according to one negger, it seems.

      facepalm

  • +4

Why didn't you just post this as a comment in the kogan post?

    • +2

Indeed. This is far from a bargain. It's not even the same price. As a comment on the kogan bargain thread, though, it would've worked.

      • +2

I wouldn't call $3's difference, as you yourself pointed out above, 'far from a bargain'

        • Not really sure why people are negging…? Not brave enough to post a reply? I hate it that you can't post your opinion around here, without getting negged, just because it doesn't conform with the general consensus. sigh

        • What more can I say in addition to what I've already said? -$3 diff is not a bargain. This is an offer of interest but not a bargain.

        • +2

I've not actually argued that it is a bargain, I merely argued that your characterising it as 'far from a bargain' wasn't all that true. Some people might find this to be of greater value than the Kogan deal, due to the reasons I posted above. The best price does not always directly correlate to the best value.

Regardless, it's pointless to argue this point any longer, since we would appear to differing opinions on what constitutes a deal. The mods will do with it as they please.

    • +2

I didn't think enough people would see it seeing as today is the last day to get the credit.

  • +4

    Kogan @ $268

  • +2

For people travelling overseas soon, if they can find something else to buy in store for $4, they can claim back the GST.

However, OW price match/beat Kogan deal is better. A lot of people are +ve voting the Kogan deal mainly because they can price match/beat at OfficeWorks.

    • What is the actual price matching policy for Kogan at Officeworks? I know many have had difficulties price matching grey imports previously (which Kogan is) but then it seems ppl are successfully doing this on occasions. Random much?

The amount of vitriol in these comments (and OzB in general) is atrocious. I, and many others, would pay $3 more to get a product is Australian stock and available to me now. It is also cheaper than other places in Australia, so it's a bargain.

    • +3

Agreed. I don't get why there's so many negatives about this deal.

Kogan = $3 more as discussed above, in return for buying in store and Australian stock. HN is a better deal IMO.
OW price match = good, but 1) uncertain price match as I mentioned above, and 2) if you don't get the Google Play credit, the price difference is $18.

      I mean, geez…

    • Plus, let's face it, we're talking about Kogan. Not the best rep for online retailers.

amazing deal just grabbed 7, thank OP!!

  • would definitely get australian stock,

my first from jb hifi had major screen lift,

within 30 days of purchase its a straight out swap,
mine was just over 30 days but was a swap out at the auburn tech support which is near my work so $3, definitely get aus stock.

make sure you bargain for a cheaper price too

  • I tried to match the Kogan one at OFFICEWORKS CBd store and they do not price match this because kogan one is from Kogan HK and does not come with Asus Australian warranty and they put their own repairs or refurbished warranty ( my mate has experienced this from kogan).

However OW gladly price beat by 5% with bing Lee. Well I HV at least got my tablet @270 with aus warranty and the credit…

    Me happy!

I couldn't believe the idiocy on this thread I just had to sign in on my phone to comment. It's easily worth paying another $28 to get $25 play store credit, Amazing AUS Harvey Norman warranty, pickup same day and aus stock.

Also, you can price match at OW and save a further $13 or so.

  • Indeed with so many production issues with the first few batches of Nexus 7, it's of much greater value to actually get one and be able to return it on the same day rather than going through the tiring process of emailing Kogan, waiting for their reply, spend more money on the shipping, wait for a for a few weeks then just to be told there's nothing wrong and they won't swap with you.

Really, you just have to wonder why is Kogan selling this tablet cheaper than Google. This tablet is not yet available in major Asian countries until just last week in Japan and the prices there and everywhere else officially selling the tablet are still more expensive then buying from US. The tablets being sold could have easily been those returned..
