Most people don't actually have a choice of opticomm or nbn. I definitely didn't for the apartment I'm currently in.

I'm also with uniti and have nothing but issues with them, which is rediculous since uniti group owns opticomm.

I can't wait to churn away from uniti, will most likely go to exetel or leaptel. There are limited selection for opticomm unfortunately.

      • +8

I would highly recommend leaptel. I am in an opticomm area and have tried most of them by now. Leaptel has the best service and never had any issues with them.

On my 1gb plan i usually have over 800 mbits 24/7

        • +5

Thanks, I'm also leaning towards leaptel and have heard fantastic reviews from friends in the same apartment complex.

For reference when there was an opticomm issue, my friend with leaptel received sms saying there was an outage. I called uniti and was told there is no issue they they can see and they proceeded to walk me through factory resetting the router and reconnecting everything with different cables as well as using Ethernet instead of WiFi. Leaptel also had the service outage displayed on their website. Uniti didn't know shit about it and said they need to send a technician out to my place, but if it is found that I caused the issue, I'll need to pay call out fee.

My friend on leaptel got their internet back the same day, took 2 days just for opticomm tech to contact me.

          • +3

@CodeXD: The most beautiful part of the farce is that Uniti OWN Opticomm.

          • @CodeXD: I called up uniti 2 weeks ago to about this poor experience and to cancel so they offered 2 months free.

The bill came through and even tho I have 2 months free, they charged me $0.76 credit card processing fee… just the fee, there was no actual charge except for the fee. This fee was charged to my debit card which I've had direct debit set up for 2 years with uniti.

            Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

        • I agree, Leaptel was fantastic when we first entered an Opticomm area. I would also give a shout out to Launtel who I currently use. Both companies are excellent alternative for those who want actual customer service. FYI - for those on Opticomm you often have two ports and can utilise trial periods with companies by just swapping ports.

    • That's for the network owner, not an actual ISP. The reviews appear to be for activating new connections to the residence, the infrastructure, not the quality of internet connection. And yeah, especially for the more recent reviews, they seem pretty effing terrible.

My experience moving to a house with Opticomm already installed, is that it's far superior to NBN and the speed options and prices have been way ahead of NBN until the last 1-2ish years.

    • Look reviews are only written when either you have top notch support or worst kind of support. Other type of reviews are that are incentivised.

I have been with OptiComm fiber for 8 years since there is no NBN in our estate.

I used to be with another company (exetel) and then couple of years back moved to Opticomm. Only recently I had 1 incident when internet was down for more than few minutes. I actually lasted 4 days. Trouble was that issue was likely on the OptiComm end and not really at the Uniti side. They did all the tests, even power was coming just fine and authentication was taking place however still had no internet. On Saturday morning when we woke up everything was working. I would assume they had to restart some equipment which they likely did on Friday late night.

Usually with OptiComm estates things run smoothly unless someone in the area stuffed up things like someone digging without checking or so on.

Trouble is that customers do not have direct connection with OptiComm, everything is via ISP. I would assume it is same with NBN ?

Then I also know a lot of people who had worst experience with NBN and they were with top ISP they could have think about.

Yes, some companies goes above an beyond e.g. providing backup 5G coverage which is not possible in Uniti or most ISPs with OptiComm, then you have to pay extra for that kind of service which everyone may not be okay with.

      • i dont care if the reviews come from china bro, i simply pointed out they have not great reviews. i dont care why or who im just pointing out the facts

        • Its okay mate, I just shared my personal experience since I have used different ISPs on OptiComm network.

  • +1

Yeah. Don’t go there if you can avoid it.

  • +1

My unit has both Opticomm and NBN, and to save the new development cost we went with ooti and also they had the first free month off so there was no harm in trying.

My experience has been okay in the last 18 months, drop out only a couple of times but I hear people in our building complain about it

I am also on their 250 plan but I have realised their speed is controlled via the supplied modem whish ic a requirement in our building. But if I hardwire that router, there is no bandwidth control

If your internet is working fine, you will be okay but if you need customer support God bless!
They have sold their NBN to Aussie Broadband now so hopefully that will get better

  • -2

So is it nbn or wireless

    • It's their private fibre

  • +3

    Worst service ever…..
It was harbourISP and then bought by Uniti. Long list of bad reviews and pathetic service.
No service support but still would love to invoice you and refuse any compensation.

    • Please email your details to [email protected], We will review and correct any mistakes.

  • Setup fee is a joke and kill the deal.

    • +1

      There is none

  • -4

When they say $149 is the standard price, I know they are not trustworthy.

    • +1

Why would transparency cause you distrust? Do you know something about incoming changes to Opticomm wholesale pricing?

      • In fact I do know that NBN’s Special Access Undertaking (SAU) SAU sets the industry standard for wholesale pricing, including their own structure for NBN plans until 2040. That makes ABB, which prices the highest afaik, reduced their price to $129 from $149. Quoting $149 as standard price is either an overstatement or Opticomm is not on top of their game. Either is bad for customers to choose Opticomm. BTW other comments in this top suffice to steer clear from them already.

  • 20:1
    sucks

  • -4

Seeming sketchy. Like @AussieGargain said, when they have stated $149 is the standard price, seems like they aren't trustworthy enough..

  • The new MyRepublic

  • A bit suspicious if they mentioned nothing about when this $50 discount ends.

    • Discount is for 6 months, price then reverts to $109.

      • Rep.. existing customer and asked for this deal to be applied…and cs said I have to go on contract…for 12 months which I said No thanks..don't like contracts. You able to get this applied to my account? Else looking at churning to superloop which is basically on parity with this deal…have a caseid #.

        • Hi, please email me at [email protected] your account details, we can definately offer this to you without contract. ill also investigate why this was the case from the call recording and requets training to the teams

          • @unitiinternet: done - thanks (●'◡'●)

            • @PaKoRa: @PaKoRa did you end up successfully upgrading your plan? I also reached out to them to upgrade and since receiving notification from them that it has been processed, my download speed is still stuck on 100mbps. Plus they issued me with an invoice for $139 (being $149 less $10 discount) so it appears they didn't even apply the 50OFFGB promotion properly. They said they're going to organise an Opticomm technician to come but I haven't received any notification of when this is scheduled.

              • @segap21: Give them a call and specifically ask them to reboot your service.

Uniti made a change to my account from PPPoE to IPoE and didn't tell me. I had no internet for a few days with credential error and was on the phone with them daily. Finally got someone who said I should be using IPoE (no credentials) and walked me through the set up. Then they rebooted something from their end and everything started working.

                • @CodeXD: Thanks for the suggestion. I gave them a call now and they did a reboot (I could see the internet light go off then come back on) but it didn't work.
I can still connect to the internet, just that the line speed hasn't upgraded. Need to wait for the technician to come out.
My connection is PPPoE and I did ask them about whether it needed to be changed to IPoE, but he figured that I'm receiving service already on PPPoE so it's probably not the solution. They suggested I wait for Opticomm to contact me about scheduling a visit before we go changing anything else.
It's too late in the day now to sort out the billing problem because the sales team has gone home, so I will need to call them again another day.

                  • @segap21: Did you confirm with them that you should be on 1000/50mbps? Just to make sure they can see the change on their end.

                    • @CodeXD: Yes, they confirmed it is 1000/50 on their end, and I can see my plan shows 1000/50 when I login to my Uniti account online. They've also invoiced me yesterday for 1000/50 albeit without the proper 50OFFGB promotion discount applied.
The peculiar thing is that my upload speed seems to have increased to 50mbps (I was on 100/40 previously and pretty sure I was getting ~40mbps upload in the past) and my latest speed tests are consistently clocking ~55mbps upload, ~93mbps download.

Are you on 1000/50, and what speeds are you getting?

                      • @segap21: I'm on 100/20 and planning to churn out as soon as it ends in a month's time.

I've had a lot of issues including no communication when there is outage (whether opticomm or uniti), and for some reason I didn't get the email back in June (?) about increased merchant fee for direct debit. I asked them where I can find the current charges and they said it is not available on their website. So I've had enough of them.

Support refused to waive the $0.01 credit card fee invoice and said both debit and credit card will attract it.

                        • @CodeXD: It's annoying they've introduced merchant fees. I agree it seems the customer support has gone backwards since they moved the call centre offshore. I know what you're talking about with the lack of communication when there is an outage - always seemed to happen to me outside of business hours, so couldn't even call them up if I wanted to.

I've been with them for a few years now and to be honest have only stayed with them because I didn't want to lose my grandfathered 100/40 plan. Then I saw this wonderful promotion and thought I'd give it a go, only to now be charged full price and not even get the upgraded speed. Really hope they can fix this quickly!

              • @segap21: Not upgrading..plan just after discount as already on the 1000/50. Rep had confirmed that discount would be applied. Will see in the next Bill.

My apartment building is with Uniti only and its been great, probably because its a relatively new building. Currently on the 250 plan with speedsd always around 230Mbps download, 25Mbps upload and 4 ping.

Currently paying $89 for 250 plan, might check out this plan

    • I've just spoken with Uniti sales rep and can confirm the above is correct.

My internet has been down since Wednesday. Still waiting for resolution. Funny thing is this happened around the same time last year. And I had one week outage. I felt lonely and could not deal with the disconnect with the online world. I had to find real people to talk to.

    • Hi there, Can you please email your details to [email protected], We have our escalations team on this queue and they will call you today/first thing tomorrow once we have your details. Thank you, Uniti Internet.

      • Got an email that is bounced back saying email address not found

        • Wow, I'm very sorry, I've just tested now and its working - please try again.

          • @unitiinternet: Thanks. Took almost a week to resolve. Very painful to call support team everytime. Each call took about 30 mins just to tell me they'll try something on their end. Very tiring and draining. Hope root cause of this issue is fixed and proper compensation is provided.

  • Amazed they only have 50mbps up on a gigabit down.
Tbh anything less than 100 is ridiculous, especially considering how prevalent working from home arrangements are nowadays.
On a 1000 plan, I’d prefer 250 though. I think on any plan, an upload at 25% of download is reasonable.

    • +1

3-4 years ago it was 1000/400 for ~$150 p/m. So you are actually correct and the downvotes must be coming from ignorant twits. They only dropped the upload cos it was eating into their profits from overpriced "business" connections. 1000/400 "business" connection is over $300 p/m.

  • Wow reviews are damning, how do companies like this stay afloat??

  • Worst service ever, I used to keep a notebook of all the times it dropped off!

  • Darn not available in my area :(

  • +5

I am with Uniti Internet and have not had internet for the past 12 days, after having no issues for the past couple of months since I joined. No change on our end, it suddenly cut out. I've been on phone calls with tech support for a cumulative total of 4-5 hours now, calling every single day. They say that they can see the connections all fine on their end but the internet light on my router has been off since it cut out. Tried two different routers.

Twice during this process they escalated to Opticomm to have a technician sent out but both times I have randomly received a text during the day that the case has been resolved and closed, following which I then had to call Uniti and explain to them that I still don't have internet and the process starts again.

Unfortunately I'm in a 12 month contract with them so I have given them notice per their CSA that they've breached the terms of agreement but this supposedly has to be given 30 days before I can break. I've also raised a complaint with the Telecommunications Ombudsman but they can't intervene for the next two weeks.

I highly recommend to stay away. I've been with Leaptel and Exetel in the past and both experiences were far better.

    • Jesus, they sound terrible. I actually really want the higher speeds and this discount is pretty ridiculous, so I think I'm gonna roll the dice.

100% agree re Leaptel and Exetel, they have both been excellent. Same with ABB.

    • Holy cow sorry man.

    • Hi there, I'm very sorry for the experience you are currently facing. Can you please email your details to [email protected], We have our escalations team on this queue and they will call you today/first thing tomorrow once we have your details. We will also look to have a technician from either Opitcomm or Uniti attend urgently.

      • +1

This email resulted in a bounce back. Please confirm this email is correct.

        • (profanity) lol. They just publicly whiffed their own email address?

          • @sickaunt: Email was updated and fixed within 20mins, it was newly created to allow interactions on these forums. Unfortunately, I jumped the gun.

    • Hi there, Can you please email your details to [email protected]. We will arrange urgent actions to get you back online.

    • Please share your details with [email protected]. We will have the team review your account and issues immediantly.

  • +2

I would stay away from them, after a bad experience with them.

I signed up with them and had problems with my home internet, which is allright it can happen sometimes, then when I requested cancellation it was a headache to leave the company 😯

They just won't process my cancellation, they cancelled my cancellation 😫. After I managed to disconnect they still kept sending invoice and reminder to pay🤯.

    • Please email your details to [email protected], We will have your account issues fixed ASAP.

  • Any existing customer able to upgrade? Can't seem to do it through the client portal. Tried chat and they "escalated" to another department through email. Tried calling in and they also just referred back to the escalation and said they can't do anything over the phone.

I can just go and sign up again, but I don't want to get double charged. If anyone is able to upgrade please let me know your process!

  • Hi there, Please email your details to [email protected], please share your account details and confirmation you wish to upgrade plans and will we make it happen. You will not be double charged.

  • Insane that I have to go to gigabit download just for an extra 10mbps upload. What about a residential 250upload ?? Please. Or at least 100.

    • Hi, Thanks for your enquiry. We have some higher symmetical plans available, please drop a note to [email protected] and we will have the team share more details. 500/200 and 1000/400 are available.

  • Hope Leaptel can come to the party with these discounts. A happy Leaptel customer here FTTP connection.

I'm waiting on their opticomm plan prices to be updated.

      • Holy shit. Good info. Thanks heaps for this.

  • +1

Stay away. I tried to switch, but my current ISP gave me a better counter-offer. Uniti still proceeded to charge me for the first month even though I never used their service. Support is completely unhelpful and refuses to give a refund.

  • Would wireless 5g be a better valued option?

    • The ping on Optus 5G is anywhere from 20-80 but download speeds are very good 200+ where I am in Brisbane. The ping unfortunately makes online gaming laggy else general Internet is great

  • Signed up about 10 minutes ago. Already switched over and getting 943/48. Opticomm is usually pretty solid for the 4 years I've used it in this housing estate, hopefully it stays that way.

  • Shit's working perfect so far. Pretty happy with this 900+ dl speed for $100 per month.
