Hey now, you're an AL Star,

  • i wonder if my grandkids will even know what a pen is in the future…

  • My bronze one was delivered today from last week's German deal. The ink cartridge was empty and the nib was covered in blue ink.

Lamy nibs are always covered in blue ink because every Lamy pen is tested at the factory before they send it off. That's why you always wash the pen before inking it.

Received mine today as well, no issues with the cartridge or nib

I really wanna love mine, but the bloody thing is and has been scratchy ever since I bought it 2 years ago. Tried some tips online but no avail.

Bloody Kakunko is so much smoother :( #sad

If it is scratchy on certain stroke, it might be misalignment of the nib. That said, if it has been scratchy for that long, I would probably recommend getting a new nib for it. That would likely solve issues with nib side of things.

Otherwise, it might be ink being too "dry", since I do remember Lamy pens to be not "wet writers" (as in they don't put down as much ink, and ink act like lubricants so some combinations of pen and ink do feel like they have lots of feedback)

Thanks for the follow up! I thought that it could be nib issue, I looked up on youtube some of the alignment tricks and it's pretty much the same. It came with a Medium, I bought an Extra Fine to replace, and maybe your right with the dry ink? I tried a few different combinations of ink (Pilot Iroshizuku and Robert Oster) and still no joy.

It's a completely unfair comparison by my TWSBI 580 ALR EF is simply a pleasure using.

Oh mate looking at what I wrote makes me seem far more qualified for an opinion than I actually am. I'm actually a little keen on trying some of the Chinese knock off brand Wing Sung! Specifcally the Wing Sung 6359 and 3008.

          I liked Wing Sung 601 :D

It's possible that you have had a bad luck with the nib or what you are after in terms of feels need more of a nib polishing (I do remember Lamy nibs having bit of a feedback). Another possibility is that the pen needs some good cleaning (sometimes flow can be improved with a good flush).

Same, any Pilot (cheap range) writes better than any Lamy for me

  • I have the see-though one. Works ok. Don't use it anymore as I got fed-up when paper fibres get in between the gap in the nib.

Thanks OP, purchased! I'm not a collector or aficionado, but seriously love the Lamy fountain pens! Have a couple of the plastic Safaris, but this will be my first with the aluminium body… Cheers & thanks!
