    wow, thats huge

      That's what she said

      • +5

Did she say that referring to your penis?

        • +8

          username checksout.

        • She left that to imagination, booting male ego

      • +1

Got negged. So I assume it was because I was sexist. Let me rephrase. Did she say that referring to your breasts?

      • +3

        2inches short…..

        • +1

Short of what, the average size?

      • Sure you weren't dreaming that?

  • +5

This vs the Hisense 100" Mini led which is around $4800 currently. Reviews seem to favour the Hisense slightly, if we get the non gimped model…

    • +7

I don't think I could spend $5k on a TV with Hisense's awful Viida OS, so TCL wins by default.

      • +2

You could install that Google TV 4k for $63 and have the same experience as TCL TV ;-)
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/807885

        • You can solve the problem with only $63 so, much cheaper. But Still cant beat the embedded Google OSTV.

          • +1

@simonizmaster: Yes, and even better if you can root your TCL, giving you all the benefits of an embedded Google TV without the drawbacks of potential trackers installed in the TCL.

            • @FujinShu: my hack to prevent any TCL trackers is unbeatable - keep the TV offline

        • +2

Given my Hisense still has issues caused by its inbuilt OS, like it will automatically enable motion smoothing if fastboot is on, despite it saying it is "off" in settings, and Hisense's "permenant" solution was for me to disable fastboot, a dongle is not a fix for bad software, even if it hides it 99% of the time. Also, as someone with a Hisense with Viida and a 4K Google TV dongle and a TCL with Android TV built in, the built-in experience is just superior. Invariably, someone will try to use the tv, press the home button, be taken in to Viida and wonder why things aren't working, it happens whenever somebody new uses my TV.

On my $1k Hisense, the slightly clunky solution of using a CC with Google TV is servicable. If I were spending $5k, I would be a lot less willing to compromise.

Having owned both a Hisense and a TCL and only last week deciding between the two brands for a replacement tv for my mother-in-law - I came to exactly the same conclusion.

Google TV is dramatically better than Hisense’s OS.

Obviously that doesn’t matter much if you plug in an ATV or whatever - but something to consider.

Get 4K Max for like $50 on promotions and you're set.

These are the specs of the Hisense:
      https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/77633522

1600 nits peak brightness and 1620 dimming zones is pretty impressive, combined with the new pentonic chipset.

      TCL specs and chipset unclear.

      • +2

Those are not the same TV. Those are the specs of the U7K, we get the U7KAU, a completely different one with only 100 zones

        • Where did you get that info? I asked hisense AU and they said it's 1600+ zones and 1500+ nits brightness. So matches those listed specs. You're saying they manufactured a new gimped 100" panel just for Australia? It's possible but unlikely.

        • +1

Correct. Our TV's are nothing like overseas models.

          • +1

@Maths Debater: Thanks, yeah I'm aware of the previous issues so initially was hesitant. It remains to be seen if they have a different 100" gimped panel that they'd supply here vs rest of the world, and then lie about the specs again after being caught out previously. Time will tell, would be great if anyone could do a dimming zone count via youtube and confirm. I'll try to if I find one on display at a retailer.

    • +3

Hisense treat Australian Tv market like third class citizens. Avoid untill they change their tune. They seems to give the best panels to US and Europe.

  • Looks like the 75'' stock levels are getting low

Would be close to $6k delivered from The Good Guys using Cashrewards?

If only the TCL cashback was on the 98", looks like it's only up to the 85" as well hey

      • its $1000 cash back but not sure if JB is participating retailer

        https://tclpromotions.com.au/the-offer

        • Same price at good guys, who are, even though same parent company.

But their promotion page also only shows up to the 85", so I'm unsure if the 98 is on it.

And for me I have ~$900 teen UGC which doesn't go to good guys I don't think from the icons on card.

Though their page does state "and other participating TCL retailers (in-store and online) throughout Australia." So surely Jb?

          • @teereb: Not surely, no.

It also says "If in doubt, an Eligible Claimant may ask a retailer whether or not they are participating in the Promotion."

        • +2

Only the C745 98" is part of the cash back, not this C845

  • Hmm, at this size the PPI even at 4K would be less than ideal imo, granted you won't find anything else this size at this price point.

    • Some time ago you could get the 98” QN90A for 7k during black friday after applying the loyalty discount through the online store.

      • i got it for 8k with ebay discount on Samsung Ebay as "Damaged Box"

Think its still on there if anyone is keen for the QN90A (it is a 2021 model) However i think in terms of display technology its still better then the current TCL and Hisense

        • link?

          • @xtommyk: just checked, the ebay stores say they are currently away.

Samsung Ebay doesnt have the best rep as well…. so YMMV.

Last time i checked there was only a few units left, so wouldnt be considered a deal.

    Great TV

  • but 2 inches off can you live with yourself?

  • How does this compare with the Samsung Q80C?

  • ideal viewing distance is 3 metres. so only your neighbours can watch it.
