    That is one BIG tv.

  • Finally found some toy for my cats.

  • +1

I was about to post this as well but wasnt sure how to mention credit to user - kirt.
    Also includes wall mount install.

  • Worth mentionining it also comes with free wall mounting - It's not clear whether that includes the mount, or whether you have to buy that seperately.

I inquired on the HN web site and they said "Ask your local store"….

    • -2

My local store said it doesn’t come with a bracket

Related - I ordered the Sanus VXT7-B2 - but it doesn’t have 850 x 450 VESA mounting. Does anyone know of a compatible tilt bracket for this TV? I can’t find anything anywhere online. TIA.

      • +3

Why would you want to tilt a TV this big?

        • Presumably tv too high issues

          1. Make it easier to adjust the viewing angle without reinstalling the mount
            (Up7°/down-10° only though)
          2. Easier to connect cables on the tv.(hdmi, etc)
      • This is the exact wall mount we used for this atV works perfectly. We don't need the tilt function but we could use this one as spreads across 3 wall studs and can lock it in without tilt using Allen keys it's a well made mount.

      • It's universal mounying from 200x200 to 1100x800, so should be able to use for 850x400.
I also got the same one, insralling next thursday.

    • Calling them tomorrow to see if a free house comes with this so I have a wall to mount this monster.

  • +11

nice. anybody got deals on walls I can mount this to?

    • +13

Just buy a few of these TVs and use them as walls

  • -1

Dunno about a big wall, but you'd want fuggin huge room to sit back far enough from it to make it worth while..

    • Depends how much of your field of vision you want the TV to fill.

    • +4

Not really, if you are to set it up with a 40 degree viewing angle (which BTW is the reference position for movie theatres and the THX recommendation) then you should only be 10 feet or 3m back from the TV. Most rooms IMHO are longer than 3m in one dimension, so that TV should technically fit in just about any room (source). For mixed mode viewing (30 degree angle) the recommended viewing distance is around 4.12m which I think can be accommodated with most decently sized living rooms and home theatre rooms as well. So this TV IMHO is not going to be too big for most who want to get the best possible viewing experience.

    • Not really, I have a 100inch projector screen and a 85" tv, I sit less than 3m from both. So does everyone else who comes over. One of the seats is alot closer but that's definitely not ideal.

      • +2

I sit under 2m away from a 65", doesnt feel that big to me. Only for gaming!

    • +3

The distance most people sit from their TVs is actually more than suitable for a 98" TV. The recommended distance for 98" is 4.1m based on the SMPTE 30 degree viewing angle which is good for mixed viewing.

Generally people sit way too far from their TV meaning they are not getting any of the benefits of 4K or even 1080p as well as opening themselves to possible eye strain issues.

      • I notice this at my friends house, they sit 4-5m away and the TV is very high on the wall and i get super tired.

my tv is 2m from me, and only .5m higher than my eye line! never hurts my eyes!

        • +1

I notice this at my friends house, they sit 4-5m away and the TV is very high on the wall and i get super tired.

Yeah I've seen way too many TVs mounted way too high.
The ideal height to mount a TV for comfortable viewing is to have the centre of the TV at eye level when seated, which is generally around ~105cm from the floor (but of course can vary a little depending on the sofa).

my tv is 2m from me, and only .5m higher than my eye line! never hurts my eyes!

For a 65” TV, the top of the TV should be around 42cm above the eyelevel, so yours is pretty spot on.

  • +2

do people actually have $5000 to spend on a tv?

    • +7

Not really, that why they come here for bargains

I guess its like do people have 1400 to spend on headphones
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/807561

    • Got to keep that inflation rising somehow..

      • Ozflation

    • +2

I remember people spending $5,000 on a 60 inch plasma TV back in 2006.

    • +1

Why would you not? If you make 150-250k a yr.

  • +2

Too bad it's not the C845 MiniLED.

    • +2

      lol
There’s always something better. Qs is .. is it worth every penny at this right moment? And this tv sure is.

      • Yep there's better than MiniLED too. If you're used to OLED, this would be a significant drop in picture quality. I'm personally waiting for this size/price in MiniLED, but I know it'll be a while before that happens. It's still a good deal if you don't mind FALD.

        • Pros and cons. Oled usually has lower brightness, so I think it would be perfect if you're watching in a dark room, or late night mostly.
And 98c845 was ard $9k when I checked last time.

User Skp27 is gone. How did the person obtain the deal.

    • I think Skp27 is still around, they just unpublished their comment regarding $1000 JB gift card - hopefully Skp27 will post the deal.

Not sure anyone obtained or even wants the deal, but if you go to the JB HiFi product page you will see under the product photos "Don't miss out on these" with $1000 gift card and 6 months Kayo sliders and should qualify for the TCL $1000 cash back

      • +1

unpublished the comment as I am not sure JB is in Participating Retailers in TCL cash back.

        • Thanks - I'll put up a warning about JB HiFi unobtainable

I have the 75" of this TV, I have another Sony 65" and have owned multiple Sony / Panasonic FALD and LG Plasma before.

    Pros
    + good sound
+ amazing contrast / black levels
+ great HDR performance / brightness level
    Cons
    - no anti reflection coating, it's a mirror
    - all non game modes have lag, even using a mouse is hard
    - heard it has FSR issues below 60fps but haven't tested
    - not great viewing angles from the sides like most VA panels

Due to the average viewing angles and terrible reflection handling, while I love the TV for my bedroom, I'd never buy it for a living room - so this 98" seems pointless.

    • +1

      Thanks

  • +2

Have this exact TV from last deal. And amazed by the quality. Paid $4400ish. At this price, I would buy again if needed. Wouldn’t look at c845 or so. Price.

Worth mentioning, go for wall mount/ installation by default. Hech heavy TV (66 Kgs…. 95ish kg boxed).
Have all your certifies 4K/8K cables ready and placed. Including wifi controlled extension cable. Preferably hidden beside wall.

I swear once this TV is installed, you wouldn’t want to move this TV ever. Even if you sold your house 😜

    • +3

      That's nothing - I had a 60" LG Plasma that weighed over a 100Kg…

      • If you bench 100kg, you have nothing to worry about

      • That's nothing. I have a 32" Sony CRT that weighs 110kg…

      • Nah mate I sold 60" LG plasmas and they weigh around 50kg

    • +1

Someone mentioned it's quite reflective, your thoughts on that and on lagginess and how low quality content looks on that big a** screen

      • This is on my living area. So for downlights, there is NO reflection. For chandelier, there’s bit reflection in dimmest setting (have kid so I mostly keep on dim setting). For windows, there’s reflection but again on dim setting. Put it on 4K setting and no reflections ever.

For low quality material, I have F2A contents and this really works well. It’s actually better than my 6 years old 55” Sony TV. Said that, HD is still good and non-HD you would feel quality down.

Hook up Apple TV and really be amazed on this big screen.

    • I have this TV too from the last deal. But I always found the picture to be too "fuzzy" for 4K. It feels far more like FHD interpolated. The image pre-set makes a HUGE difference to how a source would look - I find some settings would make my Fire TV 4K Max and Nvidia Shield Pro's home screens look like an impressionist painting rather than a sharp 4K image.

Can you tell me what source you are using and what image pre-set you've got it on? Thanks.

  • +3

I bought this TV a few months ago. Its huge and will not fit on most standard TV entertainment units as the legs are at either sides. It just barely fit on our 2.4m wide cabinet. Besides this, the picture quality is great, menu system is good (no lag) + lots of features. Only complaint is once TV is turned off, I hear clicking sounds every now and then. I normally only stick to Sony or Samsung but after buying TCL a few years ago with no dramas, I had high confidence in this unit and so far, got no regrets.

  • Projector territory, why would you go this vs projector?

    • +3

So you don't have to align it all the time. A TV is always square. I dunno, just a thought.

    • +13

there's no projector on earth that can beat a TV - HDR performance, peak brightness, peak contrast, actual 120hz, low input lag, etc and all that without burning lamps and annoying fan noise

projectors have 1 use - movie watching in a light controlled (aka no light) room, for everything else even a non premium TV like this will be 10x better

      • Agree that projectors are geared towards movie nights , and cant match a decent tv’s brightness and contrast.

But want to add that plenty of projectors have sub 20ms lag in 4K and plenty of tv’s have terrible lag , it really depends on the particular brand/model.
Projectors do need lower light but these “cheaper” giant tv’s will likely suffer badly from reflection , so placement will matter for both.

      • 100% agree, Got a 1080p projector with 110 inch screen, good for movies night. Got a 75 inch 4K TV, good for everyday use.

    • +1

Why would you buy a projector when you can get a TV?
Way brighter and easier to watch content on.

      • I actually want to know the arguments for this debate, I'm siding with TV but don't really know anything. It's my understanding you can go larger for cheaper with a projector and that's the only advantage?

        • I think eventually giant tv’s will take over , but one thing is 3D , which seems to have disappeared entirely from tv’s.

Still have people come over just to watch 3d on the projector, its not all Marvel movies , theres a decent range of stuff that gets released in 3D.

Portability is the other thing, most projectors $1500-$2000 (and above) are easy to adjust for placement . so outdoor giant movie nights are a thing.

        • It’s all well covered in CrazyTachikoma’s comment above.

I’ll add that projectors used to be the only way to get a big picture at a reasonable price. You don’t see people with 65” projectors in their living rooms for the same reason you won’t see people with 100” projectors in their living rooms once TVs get that big and affordable - like this TCL.
A projector can never match the brightness, contrast and all-in-one nature of a TV.

        • +1

To get the best out of a projector, you need a light and paint treated room. No windows, matte black paint. No reflective surfaces.

TV you can throw anywhere and just have to check reflections.

          • +1

@Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Yup, and achieving that is A LOT harder (and more costly) than most people realise. In the PERFECT room, a projector on a 120"+ screen, with a top notch sound system and acoustic treatment is as good as it gets. But you'd need to spend an obscene amount of money to achieve that to a really high standard. Most people with projectors are using them in sub-optimal rooms where a big TV like this would offer a better picture and all round viewing experience.

        • Vincent Youtube did this exact comparison with a 98" C735 (previous model) versus a nice laser projector, go have a look

          youtube watch?v=6bqKbFj04IQ

    • This. Better brightness and colour is deeper plus your room doesn't have to be dark all the time

  • Is there chance we may expect any other deals for 98inch TV under $3k mark (if happy to wait for any upcoming sale)?
Need to wallmount in media room.

  • How is Corn on this TV.
    Orgasmic for the eyes?
Would be the main deciding factor to buy one for the bedroom?

    • Don't go popping any kernels

    • +2

For bedroom corn you want the smallest screen possible so you feel better about yourself

      • If you have monster corn growing in the backyard, no need to worry about that

  • +1

98" is nuts, I want to measure my wall just so I can imagine what this would look like. I remember my parents getting a 42" inch back in the day and thinking "wow this is actually TOO big" (in hindsight it definitely wasn't lol). But I wonder if 98" would be too big for my living room, I just want to dream.

  • Went with the 98" Samsung instead of this TCL around a year back. Both of the 98" Samsungs are holding up pretty well. I'm so curious how these TCLs would have been as they're a fraction of the cost. On paper they seem pretty decent. TCL offers a 3-year warranty too so any issues would be covered.

    • +1

      Both? Wait, you have 2 x 98"? 🤯

      • Kindaaa. Not in my home, but we bought them for our local church as their 15 year old projectors were on the way out. Got each one for around 7.5k if I remember right, so it was significantly cheaper than replacing with new projectors. We were quoted 32k for new projectors. The Samsungs look excellent and are definitely big enough.

  • Can comfirm the price match is not stacking with the instant cash off of $500, i just tried and the price match discount is overriding the instant $500 cash back. for the 98" price is coming down to $4710 not $4210, i dont know how others are able to get it

  • The $500 instant cash off is a seperate appliances online offer which cannot be used in conjunction with a price match

  • FYI Appliances Online will match HB 20% off price but won't add on their current $500 off deal.

    • So would that make it $2760 through Appliances Online? ($4710 - 20% price match deal = $3760 - $1000 TCL cashback offer = $2760 unless my math is wrong, which is likely lol)

      • 4710 is after the 20%

        • Dang

  • Better to buy from harvey norman, as they have free delivery and installation for the same price, no need to haggle with anyone. Mod please update the deal as the description is wrong, cant stack

    • Something this big I feel like you'd need help installing

  • Probably a stupid question but is there in any danger in hanging two of these on both sides of the same wall (using the same studs)

Not that i'm planning to buy two of these but I was just curious

  • Thanks OP, bought one from JBHifi by price matching and the other freebies were included as well. Was more happy with the instant gift card from JB than having to wait for TCL on the cashback.

    • I was unsuccessful with price matching at JB HI-FI (they said we don’t price match coupon codes).

      • One of them rejected my attempts however i called another and they agreed

  • +1

Bought 4, one for each room

  • I measured out my wall to see how big this thing is, lost my mind, wtf….

  • Jb do not honour the TCL cashback they repalced it with their own $1000 giftcard so thr tv isnt $2000 off.

We got this through GG a couple weeks ago for $4200 (after cashback inc delivery) a great tv and wall mounted it with a sanus mount. Cant complaint

  • +1

Looks like The Good Guys have matched the HN price (use code FRENZY23 for extra 20% off), although delivery is an extra $55 and no wall mounting, however should be able to get another ~$300 cashback via Cashrewards now too?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/807896

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tcl-98-inches-c745-qled-googl…

  • Is it worth taking the HN's extended warranty of 48 months for $530?

    • Lol. Did they also offer you a monster cable for $399.

You can usually negotiate extended warranty for free from my experience

      • I actually tried. I don't know if it's as good as Mf. warranty? I wanted an articulating mount as well for 98". It is 290.

  • Does anyone have an idea what's the dimesion of this tv? Length and height please. Thank you

    • Dimensions without Stand (mm) 2181.6 (W) x 1261 (H) x 101.1 (D)

      Dimensions with stand (mm) 2181.6 (W) x 1346.8 (H) x 424 (D)

Net Weight Without Stand (Kg) 59.6

Net Weight With Stand (Kg) 62.6

      • @noddypiper does the wall mount installation include the wall mount or we have to buy it separately? If its separate purchase then can you guys recommend a wallmount for this TV?

  • I tried to get this TV today and cancel my current order for the 85"C745

I managed to get AO to price match JB HiFi 20% off, then add the instant cashback after the pricematch for my 85"C745 (I got lucky with an online chat person named Jacob doing their discount code wrong)

AO wouldnt do the same with the 98" to get the $500 instant cashback from $4700 to $4200 - Tried with about 5 different online chats with no luck. I even spoke to Jacob who explained they wont price match AND instant cash.
Would happily get this TV for $4200 but not $4700 - keeping in mind the $1000 TCL cashback.

Also, can confirm JBHIFI are not part of the TCL promotion after speaking to two different people on the JB live chat.
